Ya you want them to be locked on the disc and the only way to get them is to pay for them. I don't like this model and I don't think consumers would either. I don't mind DLC, it's the future. Where Tiger is headed as with most games is we won't even buy a disc in the future, we'll probably download entire games or have cloud based games.Rodster wrote:No what i'm referring to is buying the DLC course packs but EA just unlocking it on the disc. It's been done before and usually pisses off gamers when they buy a course and it's only 160KB, like the two add-on courses for Hot Shots Golf on the PS3.
What i'm getting at is that i'd rather just have EA unlock them once we pay for them rather than having to download 1-2GB worth of golf courses for TW 11.

If they could fit them on the 360 DVD, they would offer more courses with the DVD, but the 360 is the limiting factor. They also want to make something off of DLC to offset the work done to update courses as well as recouping licensing fees from the courses.Rodster wrote:No what i'm referring to is buying the DLC course packs but EA just unlocking it on the disc. Agreed....and you are probably right about Tiger...especially with TW Online now released and doing reasonably well so far...JRod wrote:Ya you want them to be locked on the disc and the only way to get them is to pay for them. Can't believe that the DLC courses are 9.99. Maybe I heard that wrong but holy exploitation tiburon...
I know like tim said, development costs for courses are high but if you were to get the remaining courses (which you can't add into your tour mode) you would pay more than the original disc.
This only works because EA is the only game in town and they can set whatever price points without competition but you would think they could develop a model that gets more people to pay for DLC not less.

Divot mentioned, if I heard right that EA is offering course packs this year. It looks like the Wii version is the way to go.JRod wrote:Can't believe that the DLC courses are 9.99. Maybe I heard that wrong but holy exploitation tiburon...

I'm kind of torn on what version to get. I didn't get 10 except for the Wi and I'm kind of in the boat with JRod that I don't want to work when playing a video game like that.
However the Wi version has a ton more courses that can be used in season mode.
Is there any other difference in versions?

My understanding is that this is a one-time fee for this fantasy course. Don't ask me to try to explain it, because I can't. The Devs also stated they will be releasing all 16 DLC courses within the first 8 weeks of launch. They indicated that $9.99 is not going to be the single course price after this (again, why a fantasy course is this much is beyond me) and that they will be offering discounted course packs soon. What that means, I don't know, but as soon as I do, I will let you guys know.JRod wrote:Can't believe that the DLC courses are 9.99. Maybe I heard that wrong but holy exploitation tiburon...

Considerable is an understatement....GTHobbes wrote:I'm no golf fan, but I would think there would be a considerable difference in the graphics between the Wii and 360/PS3 versions.Danimal wrote: Is there any other difference in versions?
The PS3 will really shine once the PS3 Move is released....
I think a fair price would be 1600 points for a 4 course pack.DivotMaker wrote:My understanding is that this is a one-time fee for this fantasy course. On the PS3/360 versions can you play a season using a PGA Tour pro or is Tiger Woods still the only licensed franchise in sports gaming that doesn't allow you to play a season using the licensed product and forces you to play with created characters? There is no way I'm going through the painful process of building up a character from the ground up again, but I think it would be fun to run through seasons with various pro players. Also, can you play rounds with each player using different difficulty levels like the Wii?
I did buy the Wii version at Target ($10 gift card back this week), but only got to play for an hour. Loved what I was seeing though. I don't play season on Wii...just exhibition rounds with the family (love that all courses are unlocked from the get go).

I ended up buying the 360 version after all. When you redeem your online code you have to add the - in between the characters or it won't work. Played on the default settings right off the bat and I just managed to get even on TPC Sawgrass as the daily challenge course of the day with high winds which I found more realistic in this version.
Overall, after a couple of rounds, I thought that the swing tempo is more challenging and the swing mechanics less forgiving.
Putting was a bit more challenging for me as I couldn't read the greens too well, and when punching/pitching the ball from within 60 yards I still don't get why you're not allowed to use your preferred club beyond the pitching wedge.
The new focus point is a valuable asset in my view. . It sets out to help increase the difficulty and in turn adds a new element of strategy.
Gone is H. Haney and while I enjoyed his insights in TW 10 it was becoming a bit tedious and repetitious after a few rounds. the mini games were just boring. You now get experience through XP points just like the PC version.
Didn't have time to try the True Aim mode yet, but I am sure that it will be a welcomed challenge in its own right and many will shy away from. Also looking forward to the online Ryder Cup, I just wish that there would be a 20 second time limit to hit your shot because if you're partnered with a bunch of turtles in your group, the round may take a while to finish as I experienced on thee PC version.
The commentary is still dul and overall if you're expecting a big jump from 10, you won't find it in this version, but if you haven't tried a game of golf for awhile, this is a sure buy.

Speaking of marketing, I've been following the discussion on the EA forums re: pricing for DLC. One of the mods over there yesterday said that he was checking with the developers on the pricing and would try to get back to everyone asap. When asked today what the answer was, he responded:Zlax45 wrote: Is the marketing way down on this game or is it just me?
"Actually the answer has to come from PR and Marketing. Nothing has been ready to announced yet."

So that's the latest. I do think it's interesting that EA's PR and Marketing depts. have the final say as to when DLC pricing information is going to be released.

Who else would do it, the developers? Of course PR and Marketing sets the prices. Marketing departments run this world price wise...doing all the research to see how they can sell a particular product. Isn't that common knowledge?GTHobbes wrote:So that's the latest. Ideally any organization large enough to have such departments will give their PR & Marketing final say over all information that goes out to the public.GTHobbes wrote: I do think it's interesting that EA's PR and Marketing depts. have the final say as to when DLC pricing information is going to be released.

So I got the 360 version, I tried it in last night really late after the Hawks win.
I really like what little I played of it, it is much harder. I like True Aim but I hate the view I get of my shots with it, I'd rather have true aim and then a presentation type view (maybe that's an option)
All I did was the tutorials and one challenge, but I found the swing mechanics to be much more challenging.

I can't think of a more disappointing console sports game year after year, than Tiger Woods golf. It's too bad the people that made "Links" for the XBox gave it up, because I still think that is the best and most fun console golf game yet. I think I will pass on Tiger this year and just do my golfing on real grass with real balls.
