Still think there was a spot for Walcott if you compare with what was chosen. Not much difference between him and Lennon except Walcott can score and is faster.davet010 wrote:Walcott is another example of where English youth development has gone wrong over the last 10 years.
Fantastic athlete - check
Run all day - check
Err....completes 1 cross in every 7, and he's a winger ?
Other than that flukey hattrick, scored 1 goal in his last 29 internationals
According to Sky Sports News, final straw was that Capello sat him down after the Mexico game with a video and gave him some pointers, which he then completely ignored.
Leighton Baines cooked his own goose - firstly by having a pathetic outing against Mexico, and secondly by telling Capello that he wasn't too happy about spending 6 weeks away from home.
Not the smartest thing to say when you've already planted a big question mark in the manager's mind, though I can understand it if he lives in Merseyside as he'd probably come back to bare foundations...and the scallies would be digging them out as he drove back from the airport
Adam Johnson I can see - he's only had half a season at City, his stamina is a bit suspect and he can look overawed at times, but I am struggling to think who's going to play on the left side of midfield now.[/b]
Any way been watching rivalry's lately and im getting pumped for the start of this thing .

Walcott is like Lennon without the end product - he's got all the tools, but no idea.Jimmydeicide wrote:

Anyway, news breaking that Liverpool are going to get shut of the Spanish Waiter sometime today or tomorrow. There is one slight problem - according to his contract, Rafa will be due to receive £16m in cash. Liverpool's offer ?
£3m
(DT settles back in deckchair to watch the action).
But who do they have in mind ?
O'Neill ? Hodgson ? Nah, they couldn't afford to buy them out of their existing deals.
No, gents, I know what you want. The scouse 'Dream Team' - Kenny Dalglish and Kevin Keegan.
Oh, please, please let this happen

"The players come from all over the world, the money from deep underneath the Persian Gulf, but, as another, older City poster campaign put it, this is their city. They may now exist in the global spotlight, but they intend to keep it that way."

Be terrified - apparently Rafa has gone and 'King Kenny' will be helping them select a replacement. Like he's had much involvement in football over the last few years.RobVarak wrote:I couldn't be more terrified about what the current brain trust at LFC will come up with as a solution.
I can just imagine Keegan bouncing up and down like the short kid in the playground during team selection.
"Pick me ! Pick me !! Pick me !!!!"
I'd love to see what size war-chest they are promising potential candidates, and whether it involves selling Gerrard or Torres.

Long, interesting article about Clint Dempsey.

Thanks Tom & George. Thank you you f***in cretins.
Liverpool are utterly f***ed. No manager. No money (actually worse than no money, negative money). And no doubt Gerrard and Torres will be on the first plane/train/automobile out of the city. Can't imagine any sane manager would come within 50 miles of the club.
That said, at least relegation battles will be more exciting than finishing 7th.....and we don't have to hear the Sly Sports going on about Rafa. They'll save their two-faced vitriol for some other foreign managers - they were applying some of their genius analysis to Mancini at the end of last season so perhaps he'll be next.
So depressed.

Oh Mancini was under attack from day one, due to him having replaced a 'top young British manager'. That cretin Paul Merson even came out with the legendary 'who is Mancini and what has he won ?' not long after he started, only to be put in his place by Stelling, I think, who pointed out that he'd won 3 Serie A titles in a row...cue Smackhead keeping quiet for at least 5 minutes.Macca00 wrote:Thanks Tom & George. I bet Michael Dawson is glad that he bought that voodoo doll. Hopefully we won't be treated to the Cockney Crook telling us what a 'triffic, really triffic player' he is.
Oh that's right - there's no point illegally tapping up a player already on your books.

Can I make an observation after watching a couple of the WC warmup games in SA ?
