what took this long?Slumberland wrote:After all these years I've recently switched to classic pitching. I just can't stand looking at that meter anymore. I'd rather look at all the other pretty stuff that's going on.

classic pitching = High Heat 2010

I normally switch to classic pitching eventually, but this years meter is actually really good. The variability between pitchers has been exaggerated and it's A LOT more difficult to nail it every time, so I'm getting perfect stats for my pitching staff for the most part. I'm sure once I get the timing down for my entire staff, I will switch to classic like I do every year, but for now, the meter is pretty good. This is the first year I've made it 45 games into my season with it...so they have improved it significantly.

I've gone back and forth with classic vs. meter. For the last few days, I've used meter, but I'm tired of watching the meter all the time as well. Not to mention I gave up four.....count em 4 home runs in one inning against Houston! But, what I have found with classic is that you have to up the pitch control and pitch consistency a notch or two because the location is all over the place at default.

I agree. Even when you hit the meter well, you'll sometimes see the ball go substantially away from where you're aiming. Plus it actually makes pitching from the stretch feel more challenging than a full wind-up.dbdynsty25 wrote:I normally switch to classic pitching eventually, but this years meter is actually really good. I can see the appeal of classic but I just feel too passive when I use that. If a pitch misses or hits, I like to have some role in the process instead of just letting it be driven by stats.

Incredibly, my renewed enjoyment of NBA gaming (thank you NBA 2k10) has stopped me from buying The Show. Can't believe I just wrote that.Slumberland wrote:So can we get a little tournament going in this stupid game or what?
But if you guys can startup some kind of DSP tourney or season I will get it in a heartbeat.
Also, make sure your profile settings are correct, not the global settings. I was having the same problem because I changed the global settings, not realizing I needed to hit R1 and change my profile settings.Danimal wrote:I find getting rid of meter saves me about 10-15 minutes a game.
This game is really pissing me off with little things, my settings never seem to save.
I'm curious: how can meter save you 10-15 minutes when the meter is in synch with the pitcher's throwing motion? Doesn't it take as much time for the pitcher to go through the wind-up in classic?

I don't have a reason for it but I tested it. Seems like I don't throw nearly as many bad pitches with classic then meter. Less pitches, equals faster at bats.Brando70 wrote:I'm curious: how can meter save you 10-15 minutes when the meter is in synch with the pitcher's throwing motion? Had my greatest video baseball game comeback ever tonight. I was playing my Cubs franchise, hosting the Nationals, and fell behind quickly 8-1 thanks in part to an Elijah Dukes grand slam. I managed to get the score back to 8-4, and then in the bottom of the 8th, I tagged Washington for 9 runs and won 13-8.
The amazing thing is that Dukes's slam was the only HR in the game -- the Nats hit 5 doubles and the HR, and I hit 4 doubles and 2 triples. I couldn't believe how pumped I got when I started the 8th-inning rally and then drove home the go-ahead run after battling back.

Geeze, my season's gone down the drain. It's weird, at first I thought All Star was almost too easy this year, next thing I know I played game number 100 last night and I'm sitting at 37-63 wondering what happened to my "too easy" season. I'm battling the Royals for last place.
I must suck. Or maybe it's just that the Tribe sucks. Probably a combination of both. The weird thing is I still love playing it!

Has anyone had freezing issues since the patch when going to the bullpen or roster management? It seems quite prevelent over at OS,and I'm having it also. I've played one game making sure I use the directional buttons for bullpen/PH changes and I got no freezes, but in the management screens you can't use those. Too make matters worse the mods seem hellbent on deleting threads with workarounds for the sake of "posting in the right thread" crap.

I did right after getting the 3.11 patch. First game froze from the bullpen screen. But I haven't had any issues since then. I've been using the pause menu to access the pen and so far so good.snaz16 wrote:Has anyone had freezing issues since the patch when going to the bullpen or roster management? Thought I'd update, as I had this happen to me again last night.snaz16 wrote:Has anyone had freezing issues since the patch when going to the bullpen or roster management? I think it's from pausing the game with Start, going to the bullpen, activating a pitcher to warm up, and then exiting before he throws his first warm up pitch. That's what happened this last time, and I'm pretty sure that's how the game froze before. I've been using the Start menu and the quick menu to do warm ups without issue. It seems like the freeze happens when I start warming up a pitcher and then back out right away.
Apparently using a created roster (i.e. Knights) with the 25 man version in " Season" mode causes the game to dump the remaining 15 players into the free agent pool, thus overflowing the pool, which causes the crash. Thats what I made out of the post anyway. I wasn't far along in my season anyway,so i went for the full minors from April, and didn't have any issues modifying lineups or warming up the pen.
I had a freeze despite letting the pitcher throw a pitch from the bullpen. I'm just going to have to use the bullpen shortcut menu exclusively as warming pitchers up after entering the Start menu is unreliable. Has to be something in the final patch as I had no issues with this previously.Brando70 wrote:I think it's from pausing the game with Start, going to the bullpen, activating a pitcher to warm up, and then exiting before he throws his first warm up pitch.

Anybody still playing this game?
I played the last game of my season last night, a 5-3 loss to the White Sox. I finished 60-102, 2 games behind the Tigers in last place (All Star difficulty). The Twins ran away with the Central by 15 games.
I played .500 ball most of the season, but July/August I ran into a two-month funk I couldn't get out of. I think I only won four or five games each of those months.
Sizemore was my best hitter, he hit .345, but missed 60 games due to injury, otherwise he might have won the batting title. Hafner had 95 RBIs. Wood was 30/36 saves. Westbrook was my best starter, 13-17, 4.00.
It's a great game, I really enjoyed it. But it's hard to believe I played 162 games. I need to get out more.

I'm 40-37 with the Mets on the PSP version, but on PS3 I don't have time for a full season at home, so I play a bit of RTTS and different playoff scenarios, just to dive into some high stakes situations with different teams. Great game.
Re: MLB: 10 The Show -- First Look
Oh yes. Easily my most-played game this year.lexbur wrote:Anybody still playing this game?
I'm into June in a Cubs franchise, about 8 games under .500 but not out of the NL Central. I'm going to keep playing every game until I get to the All-Star Break. If I'm still out of it by then, I may sim ahead and see if my fortunes improve. As much as I like the Broadcast presentation, I switched over to Fast Play just to speed things up.
Most fun I've had with a sports game since the Front Page Sports Football days.
Re: MLB: 10 The Show -- First Look
This and Backbreaker are going to be awfully tough to beat for sports game of the year, IMO...though both NBA2k and EA's NHL game will hopefully be right up there. I have not been playing a full season of the Show -- I've got a Cards season started but am only occasionally getting a game in here or there. I'll probably start playing every game on the schedule as we get closer to the pennant race. In the meantime, this game gets a 10 out of 10 from me.Brando70 wrote: Most fun I've had with a sports game since the Front Page Sports Football days.
