Can I get your impressions of the game?vinny-b wrote:the word is, Knight will release his minor league rosters (version 1) late this evening.
and then he plans to release an updated version (version 2) approximately 1 week from today. This is to be the final version
hopefully this will tighten up aspects of this game. Will admit, at this time my feelings regarding MLB 10 are mixed

fletch: the following is what i posted in the official SCEA feedback thread (note: I only play RTTS)
RTTS Position Player
Pros:
- normal extensive list of licensed/authentic AA and AAA teams
- initiating career in AA (instead of spring training) is a positive change
- the addition of baserunning practice
- the addition of batting practice
- the addition of fielding practice
- the return of being able to watch an entire game in RTTS mode
- the flexibility/choices provided, if user only wants to watch parts of a game in RTTS mode
- the new 'dugout view'
RTTS Position Player
Cons:
- no variety of camera angles, when playing in the oufield
- no set camera angle which is zoomed in on the outfielder
- outfielders appear too far away. And seemingly removed from the action
- overall lack of immersion when playing in the outfield
- presentation needs to be more 'player centered' when playing in the outfield
- not many outfield cutscenes
- no interaction with right/left fielders. The centerfielder is captain of the OF
- no hecklers/fans shouting to players, when playing in the outfield
- playing in the outfield lacks authenticity/imtimacy. It feels like you're alone in a large empty field, instead of a stadium.
- bad trade logic
In your opinion what needs to be changed, added, or tweaked to make this portion of the game better? Along with that what would you like to see more of?
This mode needs attention. For me, the complete package of playing as an outfielder in MLB 08 (PS2) was the most fun i've ever had involving a video game - sports or non-sports. In fact, i purchased a PS3 exclusively for RTTS mode. Yes, to me RTTS makes MLB The Show
Unfortunately, playing as an outfielder in MLB 10 has taken a step backward from what it was in MLB 08 (PS2). This is due to an almost complete lack of immersion, when playing defense in the outfield. Despite wonderful advances in graphics, the intimacy of playing in a stadium is not being replicated. Instead, the feeling which exists is that of playing in a large empty field. Outfielders appear tiny, too far away, and seemingly removed from action on the field. There is no set of camera angles: zoom and non-zoom, to select from. Unfortunately, cutscenes involving RTTS outfielders have been removed and/or scaled back. For example, the cutscene of a CF'er tossing a ball into the outfield bleachers after recording the final out in an inning. Or the cutscene of a CF'er playfully tapping his LF'er with his glove. This helped make the RTTS player feel like they were participating and on a team. And not watching the game on TV.
Another point: A centerfielder is the captain of the outfield. For RTTS outfield play to be convincing, the centerfielder needs to have interaction with his left/right fielders. Either in real-time, cutscenes, or both. And the form of interaction, verbal (yelling over to a teammate, or calling for a ball) or non-verbal (patting a teammate after making a good catch) etc.
The addition of hecklers or fans in the outfield bleachers giving a shout to players in the outfield, would also be a realistic and welcome addition. And/or any type of little banter between fans and the player.
There are multiple reports of persons in RTTS mode who have created players with 100% speed attribute, and 100% baserunning attribute, getting thrown out over 50% of the time on a consistent basis. This needs to be adjusted/tweaked. Immortal records like Rickey Henderson's stolen base record, should be fair game for RTTS players who have all baserunning & speed attributes at 100%. This is important.
In short: while the RTTS outfield camera in MLB 08 (PS2) was not perfect, it was better then the camera angle in all MLB PS3 versions. Any changes/additional camera choices which can make playing the outfield more immersive, would be welcomed. Also, the presentation when playing the outfield needs to be more 'player focused', this can be done via better camera angles, addition of new outfield cutscenes (along with bringing back some old ones), and basically more presentation focused on your outfielder. A normal TV style presentation is ideal for the other modes. However, immersion is the key factor for RTTS.
If there is an Nintendo 64 unit in the SCEA SD office, you may want to check "Major League Baseball Featuring Ken Griffey Jr" to get an idea of an outfield camera perspective which can be implemented on some routine can-of-corn fly ball outs. I will even send a copy of this N64 title to your office, if you are willing to check it.
RTTS Pitcher
Pros:
- normal extensive list of licensed/authentic AA and AAA teams
- initiating career in AA (instead of spring training) is a positive change
- the addition of pitching practice
- option to watch remainder of any game, even when one is no longer pitching in the game
- the new 'dugout view'
- overall selection of camera angles, when pitching in RTTS
- presentation and cutscenes are focused on the pitcher, when pitching in RTTS
- custom entrance music for bullpen/closers
- overall, pitching in RTTS is solid
RTTS Pitcher
Cons:
- lesser number of emails/communication received from the manager in MLB 10
- bad trade logic
- on-field manager logic is very puzzling
- no option to interact with manager or pitching coach, when they visit the mound
- no real-time cocky strut of pitcher walking toward the dugout after an inning ending strikeout looking
In your opinion what needs to be changed, added, or tweaked to make this portion of the game better? Along with that what would you like to see more of?
Pitching in RTTS mode is solid. SCEA has made the experience more immersive, then playing as an outfielder.
My experience with RTTS pitching in MLB 09 was next to perfect. However, in experience with MLB 10, i feel tepid pertaining to manager logic. For example: In my first career AA start, the manager waited until my pitch count was 110 and my stamina at near 0%, before finally removing me from the 6th inning of a 2-0 game.
In any future editions/MLB 11 etc., it would be ideal if the manager asked you how you felt (via text on the screen) whenever making a mound visit. And in turn, you had the choice to input (yes/no) if you wanted to remain in the game. It wouldn't have to be automatic every time, ie the manager could override your decision a fraction of the time.
Based on my experience with MLB 10, adjustments need to be made to the trade logic. First of all, most minor league players never get traded in real life. And if they do, it is normally only one time, not several times. Furthermore, many people playing RTTS select a particular franchise to sign with, because they want to remain with that organization for an extended time. An option to turn off all trades involving RTTS created players in the gameplay menu, would be a logical inclusion.
In short: any addition to RTTS pitching which can add immersion, depth, and reflect simulation is a postive

I gave up ARod's 600th career HR last night. It was funny, the whole team mobbed him at home plate like it was a walk-off. I was like, "What the hell? It's only the first inning!" Then the announcer said it was his 600th, ha!
I'm really slumping at the plate, I've only scored three runs in the last five games. For a while hitting seemed almost too easy and I was tempted to bump it up to HOF, but then slumps and injuries took over and I realize I probably should stick with All Star. I used to have four or five guys in my lineup with that flame icon next to their name, now I'm lucky if I get one flamer a night.
I guess it's not helping that I'm in the middle of a four-game series at NY. I'm 24-24, second place, 6 games behind the White Sox. All Star's easier than last year, but still not TOO easy, at least for me and my 30th-ranked Tribe.

Be careful when downloading these. Supposedly there is an imposter set on SportsConnect. Knight's IS on there too but there is a fake floating on there. Check for the exact name of the file at OS. I think it has 2010 in the name.sportdan30 wrote:Knight's OS full minor rosters are live as of yesterday evening. I believe it's called OSfullminors.

I took a perfect game into the 9th inning last night. My pitcher was exhausted and had nothing left. First guy up drew a 10 pitch walk. Second guy hit a high line drive to right that was hooking and ended up bouncing right off the foul line. No hitter over. I had to bring in someone else to close it out since 115 pitches was already 30 too many for him. My next game I was down 8-4 in the bottom of the 9th and ended up hitting a game tying hr with Mauer on a 3-2 count with 2 outs. I won it in the 11th with a mammoth hr from Branyon (signed him from free agency)
LOVE THIS GAME!

Actually it doesn't matter because there were 2 files on SC last night with the same name.Diablo25 wrote:Be careful when downloading these. Supposedly there is an imposter set on SportsConnect. Since there is no way to tell I downloaded one that had a higher % not that I even know what that means. What it is not sortable by user tag is ridiculous.

who is your best hitter, Sizemore?
_
Yeah, it's been a blast. Choo and LaPorta have been my best hitters so far. Sizemore's been on the 60-day DL (thanks to a wicked collision at home plate where he rolled around in agony). But I haven't missed him much, Brantley's filled in real nice.vinny-b wrote:

off topic: it will be interesting to watch what LaPorta does at the ML level this year. Have followed him dating back to his selection/draft via U of F

lexbur: my bad. Cant' help it. That was/is the most awesome nickname, i've ever heardlexbur wrote:The boys at San Diego Studios got him down perfectly... two starts ago he threw a CG shutout, and his last start he couldn't find the strikezone at all and was gone after 2+ innings.

btw, if i ever play a NYY francise in MLB 10, will expect identical simulation/performance via AJ Burnett

I had my first trade offer from the cpu and I accepted it. I am playing a season as the Twins. The Red Sox offered me Ortiz and Lester for Slowey (#2 starter), Rauch (current closer in real life) and a guy I picked up in free agency, Branyan. I took the deal. I have always been a big fan of David "I can't hit left handed pitchers" Ortiz.

I'm so completely annoyed.
I'm about 15-20 games into a season and I played a game last night, it saved and i shut down. Come back today and I have an off day, so move forward to the next day and the ony SP who has any energy is the guy who just pitched and my whole lineup, and I mean whole line up (bench players too) have their stamina down near zero.
I tried reloading the save several times to no affect, and since I only keep one save i am f***ed. I don't care much because it was only 15+ games, but if this happened or happens when I am 70 or 80 in I would not play again.
Is it just me or is 10 a bug ridden mess of a game, 09 was better then this.

Actually, Dan, this bug happened to me in a previous version of the game, though I can't recall if it was 09 or earlier. Solution was to make sure you turn off autosave and make sure you sim to the next date before saving the game. I've been doing that ever since with the showDanimal wrote:I'm so completely annoyed.

A quick google found me this thread with a similar issue: (in 09)

I definitely recommend the manual save after moving to next game day.

I am 35-18 right now and leading the central by a comfortable margin. I played the first 30 or so games at veteran hitting and pitching, but have since changed to all star hitting. I tried all star pitching but I was getting hammered. You really need a power pitcher to succeed at all star pitching in this game I think. As for hitting, Morneau is leading the league in slugging, average, home runs, rbi and a few other categories. I have 21 home runs with him so far. Mauer was injured after 5 games, but came back after a bit. He was on a 25 game hitting streak but I lost it last game against Vasquez of the Yankees. His curveball is a thing of beauty. I am loving this game. Playing teams like the Royals or Indians gives you a chance to breathe, but teams like the Red Sox and Yankees are deadly 1-9. I gave up back to back to back hr to the Yankees a few games ago. I was up 4-2 and ended their half of the inning down 6-4. Good times!vinny-b wrote:Fletch: by the way, what is your record with the Twins to this point?

Finally was able to finish the first World Series I've been able to play (Cards beat the Red Sox 6-4 in Game 7). Great stuff. Aside from some minor quirks that pop up on occasion, I'm not really sure what else the devs can do to make this a better baseball game. (3D, maybe?)
At this point, I'm very comfortable saying this is my favorite sports video game of all time.

Hey man PM Knight or Jim over at OS about this. I'm positive they can help you out with this issue. I dealt with it once in 09. Killed auto save and never looked back.Danimal wrote:Thanks Web.
I'll give it a try, really last night I was almost ready to give up on this game. I know it was only 15 games or so but I was really into my season.
