I don't play fantasy baseball but I saw a brief segment on Espn where they had Joe Mauer as the #16 ranked ff player. Seems a bit odd to me that he'd be out of the top 10. I am looking forward to this season more than I have looked forward to baseball in a while. I think the Yankees have to be 2-1 favorites to win the WS with that lineup. Their whole 1-9 hitters can all hurt you, and the pitching staff is better than it has been in years. Granderson was a huge pickup for them at the plate and in the field I believe. I'd love to see NYY vs Boston or Minnesota for a trip to the WS.

in the past 5 years, my 2 favorite non-Yankee players are: Ichiro, and Curtis Granderson

while prefer to see the yankees build from within and not sign many free-agents etc, when the news had circulated the Tigers were making him available, he was the only potential winter transaction which mattered to me. Love his game. Not to mention, the type person he is off the field.

also, thankful to have Nick Johnson back. A player who hits to all fields

by the way, who is your favorite team Fletch ?

I don't really have a "team" in any sport. I love watching sports though, but I don't pull for my home teams. I am from Minnesota. I think this year the Twins will have a team that is capable of putting up some runs, but their pitching staff is suspect at best. The "ace" of the Twins staff would maybe be a #4 starter on a top 5 team, so they're hurting. Ever since Santana left and Liriano went down with his injury they've been suspect. Closer Joe Nathan is hurt too, so I think the Twins are going to lose a lot of 9-8 or 10-7 type games this year. Scoring runs won't be an issue, but keeping the other team to under 5 runs a game will be a challenge. If I had to pick a team I like the best it would be the Red Sox.

Why do Phillies fans hate JD Drew? I was playing as the Sox @ Philly and every time he came up they booed him loudly.

I believe he was drafted by the Phillies and didn't want to play for them, so he sat out a year or something like that.

J.D. Drew is a good player. But not for the ridiculous money he was asking Philly to pay up during the long contract dispute. So once Phillies' rights to sign him went by, Drew went back into the draft where he was picked eventually by the Cards. But he ended up signing for much more less than what he was asking from the Phillies.

JD Drew used to get sh*t thrown at him at philly games. It was the most idiotic thing ever considering there's prob 20+ 1st round picks that haven't signed with the team that drafted them in the last 10 years at that point. Somehow philly fans felt they were entitled. Another gold star for philly for "keeping it real"...

apparently d-batteries were the projectile of choice.

btw: JD Drew is the first cousin of my best friend. I didn't believe him, until his father told me. Funny part is, whenever i see a picture of JD Drew they look nearly identical to each other : )

Any chance Hazel Mae's in to goofy-looking white dudes? I'd LOVE to take her to a Tribe game some time.

What's better than a hot chick who knows her baseball?

Yeah, I've been watching WAY too much MLB Network lately. :D

Couple random thoughts:

Can't remember a time as a baseball fan with this much awesome young talent across the league. Take a look at a list of the quality players 25 and under playing the game right now. Really impressive, and it'll be fun watching these guys over time.

Also, the steroid era (assuming it's basically over) changed the game in a myriad of ways. It seems like the game is returning to some form of balance, and it's improving the game.

Happy Opening Day, everybody! :D

Anybody else going to Opening Day? I'm going to the Tribe's home opener next Monday vs Texas, I can't wait. I've missed only one home opener in the past 30 years.

Let's go Cubs! The Cards are definitely the better team, but I hope the Cubs can play competitively and keep the pressure on. A lot will depend on their bullpen and whether Soriano and Geovany Soto can bounce back.

As a Sox fan i take away from last night, as there are still 161 games to go, the following:

- 9 runs...considering the way this team was put together, that thrills me
- Oritz needs to be sitting against lefties...period. Opening day so i understand why Tito let him play, but no more.
- Beckett's fastball is too hittable for him to rely on it as much as he does.
- The Yankee middle relief is flat out awful.
- A team has to scorch one to get it to drop in the Sox outfield. Ellsbury, Cameron and Drew can get to almost anything. It's freakish how much ground these guys can cover
- and lastly, Steven Tyler should be featured in the next Left for Dead game. Good lord i thought he was going to keel over mid-song. Wow he looks terrible.

You underrate the Twins pitching, especially the rotation. Baker is as good or better than all but Sabathia on the Yankees. Slowey would also make that rotation, and if Liriano is finally "back" from TJ surgery, he's going to be fine as well.
The sing-along songs'll be our scriptures.

Well, it'll be strange not seeing Doc Halladay pitching on opening day for the Jays. It'll be growing pains for the blue birds this season. There's been a lot of internal issues last season with Gaston, the distraction of where Halladay was going to end and just a poor bullpen dominated the news last year.

With the Yankees, Bosox and Rays, this team is not going anywhere fast but at least JP Ricciardi is gone and TOR will be building thus team up from scratch as TPA did a few seasons back.

This is V. Wells team now, he hasn't been the same since his long fat contract. It'll be a long season for Jays fans.
