Marc
Today they moved Marc from the ICU to a room that isn't for people who need quite as much around the clock attention. They did this because he has been off the ventilator for a full 24+ hours. This is a good sign! He still doesn't seem to be able to hear much and not much lower body movement, but it was definitely good that they had enough confidence in his improvement to move him out of the ICU!
Latest from Naples' wife:
Holding his own. Unable to do PT today due to postural hypotension; BP meds d/c'ed and will try again tomorrow. Got ice chips and apple sauce today, swallowed well. Scheduled to downsize trach tube tonight; may be able to talk/eat with this one by next week if all goes well. Still anxious to escape, which is a good sign.

The latest: Just talked to Suzanne... apparently he wants to text?!? Going to bring in his phone tomorrow. Trach downsizing went well, eating ice chips. Sitting upright now, BP holding. Hopefully we can get him out of bed tomorrow? Also hoping I don't have strep throat so I can go hang out with him!

From Jennifer: Thank you for
all the warm wishes -- both for my birthday and for Marc's recovery!
We're making progress-- yesterday I fed him vanilla ice cream, a few
bites of lasagne, and a whole piece of bread. My little bird is eating,
and making definite progress... Still no improvement in hearing or mild
improvement i...n legs, ...but cognitively he is getting sharper, although still periods of confusion interspersed.

Update Today: More
improvements: stopped tube feeds (tho PEG still in) & capped trach
(breathes on his own entirely through nose/mouth); did great so now
another wean begins. Low BP, but started on pressors to stabilize. Able
to sit up for an hour (!) in chair today, though some grumbles. Moving
head/a...rms/and even legs... (a little). No change in hearing & still speaking in whispers, but a GOOD DAY!"
