OT: Movie rental suggestions

Just watched Harvard Beats Yale 29-29. Nifty documentary. The title tells you the outcome, yet I still found myself on pins and needles at the end.

Just finished watching Precious. Amazing. I was truly moved by the story. The acting was so powerful and at the same time it was truly inspirational.

Hands down my movie of the year.

I will say some parts are difficult to watch, but man is it a well acted movie. I too was turned off by the movie initially. Not sure why really. Maybe because of the title (sounded a little too girly?) or possibly because there is not a real strong male presence in the movie. Those two issues were immediately gone in the first few minutes.

Great movie JD!

Saw it the first time at the movies with my father when I was 9? in Evansville, Indiana...Good memory.
It was one of the few non horror movies he took me to. I was the only kid in 4th grade that had seen the Exorcist. For some reason he always thought I was over 18.

Watched the Informant this past weekend. Very interesting movie, but more so leading character was rather strange. Damon played the role very well. It was entertaining, but I'm not sure I'd necessarily recommend it.

Actually, the last two movies I watched were decent, but certainly not in the "you have to see it" category. They were Up in the Air and Sherlock Holmes.

Haven't heard his name mentioned in a long while (except when I see The Dirty Dozen on late night TV), but Charlie Bronson was from a small town only about 4 or 5 miles away from my hometown in PA. His given name was actually Charles Buchinsky, which I guess just didn't have the hollywood ring to it.

We used to hear that he'd come back to visit his family both when he was a household name and then also after his career was wrapped, and that he would always be cool to the locals anytime he popped up in a local diner.

Cool story. He sure was loyal to the love of his life Jill Ireland. My favorite Bronson movies are The Great Escape,Magnificent Seven,Mr Majestic with Hard Times being the best IMO.

FWIW, Finally got to see "Gran Torino" this past weekend and really enjoyed it. Clint was perfect as that crusty old codger, while the story, while a bit cliche at times, really kept my interest throughout.

My first car in High School was actually a "lime-green" Gran Torino and I thought it was the coolest thing around. I am guessing it was around a 1975 or so and I got it used and in perfect condition. In those days, the most important traits in a car were a kick ass stereo with a set of 6x9 Jesen coaxials in the back panel and a roomy backseat

Anyone here see Black Dynamite? It's a somewhat respectfully done homage to the the "blaxploitation" movies of the '70s. It's sometimes silly, but it doesn't end up turning into a cliched lame parody like "Undercover Brother".

If you were to catch a quick glance of it on cable, you would swear it was made in 1974. Fun movie.

The "figuring out the conspiracy scene" in Black Dynamite had me crying.

Lots of fun, and fails in the same way most of the blaxplotation flicks did - a pretty bad third act. Totally worth watching for the first hour or so though.

As soon as Inception is released on blu ray, Get it! Just saw it this afternoon on the way home from the Sports collectibles show.(Couldnt pass up adding Barry Sanders to my mini helmet collection)

Anyway...I must preface this by saying I am a biased Chris Nolan fan. I loved Momento, Batman Begins , The Dark Knight and I even liked The Prestige.
I think Inception is a great film start to finish. Though, I will have to watch it again to make sure I wasnt dreaming that.

real and what isn't. Leo seems to always score winning roles/movies.

Also, that one with Angelina Jolie and the group of assasins was great as well (forget the title....someone help me).

Agreed 100 percent. Leo was great as a kid in "What's Eating Gilbert Grape," but then I thought he was just going to be the latest heartthrob after "Titanic." So very wrong. Along with Johnny Depp, the dude is one of the great American actors of his generation.

I would agree that Damon is just as good if not better than DiCaprio. I'm not even sure Dicaprio is all that great to begin with. I could probably think of a number of actors that are better than him. Off the top of my head I can think of Javier Bardem, Paul Giamatti and Philip Seymour Hoffman. Or how about Sam Rockwell, who generally flies under the radar. DiCaprio simply does the higher profile, big budget, semi-serious films that get Oscar consideration, plus he's got the star power from his teenage heart throb days.

BTW, go see The Kids are Alright. It's the best movie I've seen this year by a long shot. I have yet to see Inception.
