Season play is all I'm concerned about as well, but it kind of sucks having to wait until the week after opening day to officially start my season. I'd like to have to have line ups and players accurate at least at the start of the season.
What do you guys do who have already started a season? For example, Heyward on the Braves. Do you add him manually or just play the season without the top rookies (i.e. Straussberg)?

Added him manually. You can change the number later if you want since I know he ain't gonna be #71 when they break camp. Could care less about other rookies really...I mean, sure, I'd like them there, but I'm not waiting another month to get started.sportdan30 wrote:Season play is all I'm concerned about as well, but it kind of sucks having to wait until the week after opening day to officially start my season. I did the same with Chapman for the Reds and Jason Heyward. I'm 16 games in for the Reds and 15 for the Twins. This game is Gold for me.dbdynsty25 wrote:Added him manually. I just use the default rosters in the game and ran with it, I guess I'm not a stickler for totally accurate rosters. Like Jerry Seinfeld said, we're really only rooting for laundry.
Besides, your rosters aren't going to match up perfectly with the r/l rosters anyways, because you're going to have different guys on the DL than in r/l and different guys who are struggling enough that you want to send down that might not be struggling in r/l.
Plus, it would be very frustrating to me to wait that long to start my season. I started the night I brought the game home and haven't looked back.

Got my first look at Target Field in my season last night, a 4-2 loss to the Twins. Geeze, Morneau, Mauer and Thome are going to feast on that short porch in right that overhangs the field. Three HRs in my game last night, they all landed there.
I think I may have spoken too soon when I said All Star is too easy this year. I got off to a 7-3 start, but since then my bats have cooled off and I've lost three in a row, now sitting at 7-6. So I guess I'll stick with All Star for while. Maybe I was just on a hot streak for a while there.

I started a Twins season too to go along with my Mets one. Fun team to play with. Thome smacked a homer against the Angels that felt so good. They start on the road, so I haven't seen Target Field yet, but looking forward to it.
I also turned on RTTS last night on a lark just to check if the OS thread that I casually posted my last name into last year for possible announcer inclusion made it in... and it did! Now I have to play ANOTHER mode. Jeez-o-pete.

I started my season last night with the Texas Rangers. They have a great lineup but pitching is going to be a challenge for me. I don't need to have accurate rosters for my season as I'll probably make a deal for a decent pitcher here shortly anyways. Anyway the Blue Jays were up 2-0 going into the bottom of the 9th, when Hamilton hit a 2 run shot to tie it up at two all. I ended up winning in the bottom of the 11th when Guerrero singled in the winning run. Great finish to the game to start the season.
By the way, my last name made it into the game this year too...

Interesting interview posted at Baseball Prospectus with Jason Villa about the role of advanced metrics in programming The Show.

I started my Phillies season too. Had a very good 1st game against the Nats. Won 4-2. Halladay threw 8.0 innings, 4 hits, 1 run. Lidge gave up a run in the 9th (shocker) but still got the save. Rollins hit a bomb to open up the season but then the offense cooled off. Polanco and Howard went deep late in the game to get Doc the win. I love Polanco in The Show just as much as I do in real life. Pretty realistic line score...PHI 4 runs, 9 hits 1 error - NAT 2 runs, 5 hits, 0 errors. Very happy with the game!tjung0831 wrote:I started my season last night with the Texas Rangers. They have a great lineup but pitching is going to be a challenge for me. What a coincidence. I've seen that picture too many times last year. Call them Blow Jays.tjung0831 wrote: Anyway the Blue Jays were up 2-0 going into the bottom of the 9th, when Hamilton hit a 2 run shot to tie it up at two all. What a wonderful feel good story (per the OS boards).

Anyone having freeze issues? I played 3 games today. In game 2 I had a few hiccups where the game froze 2-3 times for 1 second each, but it went away. In my last game the damn thing completely froze up in the bottom of the 9th with me up by 4. I sat there for a few minutes cursing the screen before I just shut the ps3 off. I don't really care so much about the win as I do the fact I played for ~50 minutes and it's all for nothing now. Is anyone playing as the Red Sox? I noticed a few oddities with the game. Joe Nathan of the Twins seems to have his windup and delivery in fast forward. It's really odd looking and definitely not normal. Dice K on the Red Sox is painful to pitch with. His delivery takes foreverrrr with how long he winds up. It makes pitching with him a challenge. I love the game, just hope the freeze issues are few and far between because if I end up losing a lot of games in the 8th or 9th inning I may say screw it.
Thanks for sharing Dan...good story.sportdan30 wrote:What a wonderful feel good story (per the OS boards).

There's some wonky ball physics and seeing eye hits in my RTTS game.
I'm a SP serving a LR for the Orioles Double A club. In my last game I had 5 hits down the line on 2-outs that keep innings going. That's not as bad as my pitch locations were in a place that seemed odd to have the hit.
I had 3 that were outside pitches that were hit hard and pulled. Each of them got to the wall. Now that fielding on this team is poor but that really struck out like the CPU was forcing the issue on some of this hits. They should have been looped flares or very slow rollers to get the single. But not hard liners past the diving 3rd baseman.
I going to put the Show on hiatus for a bit because it was too frustrating to have this happen in multiple game last night. I didn't see this in franchise/season play so it must have something to do with my pitcher's hit ratings.

Saw my first injury last night. Youkilis swung at a pitch low and in the dirt and pulled a muscle. He was replaced before the next pitch. I saw another injury for an opponent when I hit them in the head with a Beckett 95mph fastball.
Youkilis is day to day and I am wondering how long it'll take. Pretty cool to see!

Man, that Tampa Bay team can really sneak up on you.. I am playing as the Red Sox. I was breezing thru the year, taking 2 of 3 from the Yankees and then winning all but 1 game in the 2nd series. I then faced Tampa at Fenway and have dropped 3 in a row. The last game was a 13-3 blowout loss that was just plain painful. If this Tampa team is this good in real life then I say they are contenders this year in the real game. They have decent pitching and a lot of great hitters!

I'm having some really awful innings on the mound, exacerbated by shaky defense from the Twins' infield. 3-2 so far, with scores of 3-2 (W), 6-1 (L), 11-9 (W), 11-1 (L), and 14-8 (W). I'm hitting .315 but have a team ERA in the mid 6's. Too early for all this to really mean anything, though.
I uploaded the auto-generated highlight reel from the last game. Michael Cuddyer had 7 RBI's in this one:

There is some wonky stuff going on with outfielders near the outfield fences... fielders not attempting to catch balls they're in range of, or picking up the ball and then getting sucked into a totally unnecessary bounce-against-the-wall animation, leading to unearned triples. Here's a greatest hit with Beltran against the Nats:

Only had time to play one game on default All-Star, but I really love the greater variability in the pitching meter. I went six innings with Carlos Zambrano, and despite giving up only one run, still threw 101 pitches because I missed the zone a lot and had some long counts. Walked 2 guys and only struck out 4 (including a very satisfying called third strike after a 10-pitch-at-bat by Juan Pierre). Won the game 3-2.
One nice presentation touch: after I hit a guy with Carlos Marmol in the top of the 9th, they flashed a stat for most hit batsmen in 2009. Thought that was pretty funny.

I'm glad it isn't just me. Hardy and Hudson have been butchers for me, which seems very, very strange considering their defensive reputations (even if Hudson's lost a step).Slumberland wrote:I'm having some really awful innings on the mound, exacerbated by shaky defense from the Twins' infield. 3-2 so far, with scores of 3-2 (W), 6-1 (L), 11-9 (W), 11-1 (L), and 14-8 (W). This game is incredible though, although I will touch the fielding sliders if the errors keep up.
