No, sir! I want the Canucks again, to prove that last Sunday's victory was no fluke. Oh, and to get this minor golden talisman as jewelry.RobVarak wrote:Mission accomplished. Now come on you Slovaks!!!

I know I've been a pretty withering critic of Brian Burke over the years in here, but I'm really happy for him now. The guy has built a fine American team for these Olympics, and he entered the Games with such a heavy heart after burying his son Brendan just a week or two before the Opening Ceremonies.
It would make me feel really good to see a gold medal draped around Burke's neck. Probably more than any player or coach.

Talking about the talisman it looks like a gold cd left on the dash of my car in the middle of a california summer.pk500 wrote:No, sir! I'm Slovak, so I'm putting ethnic pride first.pk500 wrote:No, sir! I want the Canucks again, to prove that last Sunday's victory was no fluke. Oh, and to get this minor golden talisman as jewelry.RobVarak wrote:Mission accomplished. Now come on you Slovaks!!!

I think it's time he takes a ride into the sunset. I can't stand ANY of the "team" at this olympics except for Roenick. The guy between the benches is so full of himself it's shocking he can fit into a 20k capacity arena. I am extremely bored of this whole crew. Too bad Roenick can't do play by play. What Nhl team does Emerick announce for on a daily basis, is it New Jersey? For my money, no American hockey announcer can ever top Gary Thorne. Did he quit or something? That other guy who died a while back who did Espn National Hockey Night was great, too.pk500 wrote:Please shut up, Doc Emerick.
What's with the shitty ice at the Cannuck's arena? Is it really that hard to maintain ice when they play 2-3 games a day? I've never heard of this before in a big event like this where the ice is so choppy.
I think Canada 5-3 sounds just about right.Gangrel wrote:I predict that in 3 hours or so, Canada's 2nd last win of the Olympics will take place, with a 5-3 final score. Crosby gets 2, Nash gets 1, Boyle gets 1, and Getzlaf ices it into an emtpy net.
Now, let's see how wrong I am.....
My problem right now is that I now know much of the strategy and how to score curling.

For some reason I thought Rob was Croatian...

I wish Greece had a hockey team or enough money to pay their electric and gas bills.
Another freaking airport but at least I am 11 hours closer to home by plane and hope to catch the last two days of the Olympics. I am hoping that the Wi-Fi on board will work as I'll be logging to check with you cats on the progress of the Canada-Slovakia game, instead of bugging the pilots for constant updates. But crossing over the Pacific may not work with their online connection.
Congrats to team USA, you know how much I'd love to see Canada facing this speedy team but first they have to take care of the Slovaks, who are no slouches. They're very dangerous upfront and lethal on their PP. Team Canada has to watch the turnovers and be disciplined. Be physical but smart while doing it. I don't think Slovakia will be as loosey goosey like the Russians and will try to clog the neutral zone whenever they can.
Go Canada go!

OK, off-beat question based on an observation from the first period of the Canada-Slovakia game: How is Pronger allowed to play without a shield?
Pronger is the only player I've seen in this tournament without a shield. I'm pretty certain IHHF rules mandate shields for international play.
Is there a grandfather clause for guys who have been in international play for a long time? This is Pronger's fourth Olympics; he's been in every one in which pros have been allowed, dating back to 1998.
That's the only obvious explanation to me.
EDIT: Thank you, Google. http://sports.ca.msn.com/olympics/artic ... d=23468063
All players born after Dec. 31, 1974 must wear a visor in international play. Pronger was born Oct. 10, 1974.

I love that Ziggy Palffy still uses a wooden stick. Composites are much lighter and propel the puck faster, but nothing compares to the feel of the puck on the blade of a wooden stick.

Demitra must feel 1 inch tall. Dude misses open net with less than 30 seconds to go.
Fun game. I hope Slovakia wins the bronze. That team has plenty of stones.
The showdown that all of us here dreamed about is ON. Can't wait for Sunday. Go Team USA!
