I almost went with Mizuno Jack. They were on the final list but the R9's won out. I have heard great things about the Mizunos.
I love my MP52's and have tried every club under the sun. When you hit one in the sweetspot, they have that "buttery-smooth" feeling similar to hitting a baseball in the sweetspot.

Anything in the Golf Digest Gold list is going to be pretty solid. Enjoy them!

Congratulations Diablo! The R9s really are fantastic clubs. I spent a good deal of time looking around for a new set of irons and just like you I ended up with the R9s. Instead of getting the 3 and 4 irons though I decided to substitute in the 3 and 4 TM Rescue hybrids. I'm much more consistent and probably a good 20 yards longer with the hybrids:) I'm also looking to finally get serious with my golf game and from everything I've read and the people I've talked to these seem to be a solid set of clubs to work with. Definitely not a set of clubs the average golfer is going to grow out of:) You need to move to southern california so you can start playing golf year round! I'd be freakin out if I'd picked these up and had to wait to use them

Thanks macsomjrr. I also use hybrids...2 & 3...and love them. Much easier to control than 2 & 3 irons. My R9's are 4 thru AW. I'll be picking up a SW in the near future. Can't wait to give them a go.

Yeah I almost went with the R9's myself, sweet club. I went with the Taylor Made burner Plus thought because I don't get a lot of height on my shots I get under my 7 iron.

I decided I'd rather lose some distance I was getting with my lower trajectory and gain some control back. It's nice to be able to spin the ball back now with more regularity with the B+'s.

I used to be a Titleist guy, but I am sold on Taylor Made now, and their hybrids are fantastic. Now I just need to replace my 3 Wood for somethign that gives me more height.

Those Burner irons are awesome too. I tried hitting a couple different 6 irons at the range during my club fitting. The Callaway X-22's aren't bad either. I probably would've been happy with the Burner irons too but ultimately I preferred the look of the R9's at address (a bit of a smaller profile). When I line up my shots I put the face of the club right up behind the ball which make that slimmer look important to me :)

The rest of my bag...

Odyssey White Ice blade putter
60º and 52º Cleveland wedges
Ping G15 fairway 3W
Callaway FT-iq driver

What are you guys playing with? Anything that drastically changed you game?

My son Dominic started playing last spring. He's a lefty like me but has a much better swing. He tends to let his baseball swing creep into it at times. Here's a couple at the range with my brother last spring. My brother is 6'0 250 and hammers the ball. I think Dom was trying to keep up with him that day. He seemed to be over swinging.

These are from Rocky Knolls GC in Custer SD last summer. It's a very cool 9 hole course in the Black hills. He shot a 43 from the the tips. He hits his irons well. This one is on a par 3....180 yd hole. He smoked a 5 iron at the pin. It hit about 7 inches from the cup and bounced over the green.

His drives avg around 250-260 yds. He found the fairway here but man did he finish off balance. Baseball swing. Dom was 5'6 last summer. He's now 5'11 and wearing size 11.5 shoe. I think his club head speed will be much quicker this spring.

He's really getting into Baseball and Golf now that he's given up boxing. (3 broken left hands in 2 years) He's playing in in the Minnesota Junior Tour this summer. http://www.minnesotajuniorgolf.com/ I want to buy him a good set of clubs. Right now he's swinging some used Dunlop's with a stock blade putter. Any suggestions? Price isn't an issue. I want some sticks that will last him a while. I was at Golfsmith today and I felt like I was at a used car lot. I came away with a great dislike for golf club salesman.

You'll be able to do some serious spins with that wedge. Mine is a 56 degree as well and alternate it with the Titleist Vokey 54.

Tiger announced he's coming back for the Masters. In my opinion this is a big p*ssy move on his part. Coming back to the most controlled and sheltered tournament of the entire year? If he comes back for this tournament and then takes another month or 2 off he's a fraud. He really slapped Arnold Palmer in the face by not returning for his tournament. He was afraid of the media attention no doubt. Sad. I wish Tiger would just go away.

Of course Tiger is returning at The Masters. Is anyone surprised?

As Fletch said, he will be sheltered like a Crown Prince. There will be no questions allowed at the press conference. Augusta officials will throw out any fan who heckles him. Jim Nantz will worship him on CBS in his hushed, milquetoast tones, and Augusta will prevent any mention of Tiger's scandal during the broadcast.

Plus Augusta is arguably Tiger's best course. His insatiable yet starved ego will begin to inhale all the available golf oxygen again. Perfect.

I'm sure all the waitresses at Denny's in the Augusta area already are moist between the thighs and anticipating Tiger's return ...

I wonder what Jack Nicklas really thinks about Tiger deep down. He's too politically correct to ever come out and say anything negative, but I'd find it hard to believe that a purist like him is really in the Tiger bandwagon. The thing that bugs me about Tiger is that he thinks he's really clever and that he is pulling one over on us. He thinks people really see him as a nice and virtuous man. I don't care if he bangs 10 prostitutes a day and does a line of coke off of them, but don't insult my intelligence by playing the part of a nice family man. Look at Charles Barkley. He's not a nice guy and he has never once tried to pretend to be. He told parents he wasn't a role model and didn't want to be. I respect him a lot more for being himself than Tiger after his press conference. No one is required to be a good person, but the fact he has fooled millions of people on his way to 1 billion dollars is kind of insulting to me. Ben Hogan is in my opinion the best golfer ever. Everyone knew he was a d*ck but he played the game with respect and didn't try to manipulate people. I really wish Tiger would have just withdrawn from golf. He brought more people to golf than any athlete has ever brought new fans to any sport, but I am sick of him. I have a feeling Arnold Palmer might be a bit pissed off also. Do any of you guys on here think the PGA tour is better without Tiger like me? The people who don't even tune in if Tiger is not playing are not golf fans anyways, so I think the tour is better without him.

My how times have changed.

An African American golfer is being sheltered by a bunch of red necks at one of the most elitist clubs in the country because he banged a bunch of white chicks.

If only Dolphins got this kind of protection :)

If it was anyone but Tiger or one of the other elite players I don't think this would happen. Augusta is an honorable course but they know enough that no Tiger will hurt ratings badly. I have a feeling they were the ones who approached Eldrick and basically told him they would bend over backwards to make him happy. It's a joke to me. I hope he comes out and misses the cut like he did at the British (?) a few years back. I don't have a problem with his selfish lifestyle but I feel like he thinks he's better and smarter than everyone else and that bugs me. He's showing as much spine as a jellyfish. He really needed to attend Arnold Palmer's tournament, but there would be too much scrutiny and too many drunk gallery hurling insults at him for Tiger to handle. F*ck him I hope guys like Parnivik and the other out spoken golfers make him feel 2 feet tall out there.

I am not quite sure how Tiger fooled millions of people. He didn't fool me. He is the same person to me now than what he was one year ago. His actions do not affect me in any way. He is just an entertainer. Nothing more.

I don't drive a Buick because of him or drink Gatorade because of him, and now I am not going to bang other women because of him. I do things, think things because of the way I was raised by my parents, not because of Tiger Woods.

If he fooled you, well, that is your problem.

I think some of his mistresses -- all MENSA members, no doubt -- believed that he loved them, too. :)

My son and I played 9 today. What a great day. Damn near 70 and sunny in the Twin Cities. 40's and snow are coming this weekend so it was very cool to 9 in today. I shot a 42 with no mulligans and Dom shot a 39 with no mulligans. Good times.
