I would be connecting the PS3 to my Viewsonic 28" 1080p/1920x1200 monitor via HDMI. I am really starting to worry about my Elite (paranoia mainly instead of anything the machine is doing).

Thanks in advance,

When you play a game like TW10 or MW2, I don't think you'll see major visual differences between both systems. Yet when you play PS3 exclusives like MLB09 or Uncharted 2, I could swear they're some of the most beautiful games that I've played yet. I got the 360 mostly for online play and the PS3 to watch BR flicks along some exclusive Sony titles.

If you think the Elite is definitely on it's last legs, go for the trade.

I have both systems and agree with 10spro. With multi-platform games, you won't really see much difference (and, in fact, the 360 sometimes runs more smoothly). But the PS3 exclusives can be mind-blowing. MLB 09 is the best-looking sports game I've ever played, and the Uncharted games feature some of the most gorgeous graphics you'll ever see. Even though I thought Killzone 2 was meh as a game, it also had incredible visuals.

On top of that, the PS3 is simply a better built system. Quieter, more reliable, and the built-in BluRay player is still a bargain even as BR players have dropped.

Having said that, I don't know if I'd make that trade unless you really think your Elite is on the downward slide. The 360 is still the better gaming platform by far if you want to play online, and I think the controller is considerably better, especially for FPS and racing games. If you want BR and online multiplayer isn't that big of a deal to you, then I'd go PS3. But if you plan to play online a lot, keep the Elite and just get a separate BR player. Uncharted 1 & 2 are amazing, but they are also short and don't justify the cost of a new system alone.

It's a tough decision to make...which is how I wound up with both systems. :D

Thanks guys for the feedback! I have no reason to suspect my Elite is nearing a failure, but then again, if I can get half the cost of a PS3 with it and it is well known the PS3 is a far more reliable machine, then I have to consider this very carefully. I don't play a great deal online, but I do play TW10 online pretty much exclusively and between it and TW Online for the PC, that will likely take up virtually all of my play time, which has diminished more and more each year. Leaning heavily towards the trade in even though Natal is coming, I don't see it being a huge factor in the games I play til 2011. I will ping my contacts at EA and see what they have to say (off the record).

My final decision will be whether I go for the 120 GB or 250 GB system. I am thinking with how little I play, the 120 will likely be plenty as my Elite has 95 GB of room left on it.

Thanks again fellas!

Of course the deal was a huge hit, and it was over before I even knew about it. What is my best recourse. Will there be deals after Christmas? I want a ps3 badly, but the pk500 in me says look for a steal of a deal. What's my best bet? I really wanna play Uncharted 1 and 2!
Fletcher, if you are still in the market for a PS3:

Walmart has a Sony Bravia 46" 120Hz 1080p LCD HDTV + Sony PS3 120GB Console for $958 available both in-store and online.

Saw the deal at Best Buy too.

But I heard the TV isn't that good. It may be video purists only liking high-end models though.

So, I've been trying to find a PS3 120gig, and NO ONE has them. Best Buy has stacks of the 250, but they claim to have no idea when the 120's will ever return. What's up? Are they phasing out of the 120's or something?

Bought mine from BB almost 2 weeks ago and all they had were 250 GB models. I am thinking that the 120's were sold out before Christmas and all they had left were 250's. BB sells the 120's online, but no longer in stores....

To me, the $50 difference in price was a no brainer...

Actually, BB has now changed the 120's to "not available" now. I'll prob grab a 250, but given it's not my main game machine, I'm trying to spend as little as possible.

I just bought a PS3 not too long ago, for FIFA. And I'm not playing it at all. It's not sealed new but I'll sell it to you with a BB warranty. If you interested, PM me.

Can I use any HDMI cable for the ps3 or does it have some kind of wacky ps3-connector that requires a "ps3-official" cable?

You can use HDMI.

You can also use PS2 cables as they use the same connector for S-Video and analog audio.

There is also a TOSLINK port.

Don't know if you guys have noticed, but you can d/l Flow (full game) for free just for today on the PSN Store.

I've been trying to d/l it but it keeps giving me a HTTP Status Code :403

Tried d/l demos and other things and it worked fine. Has anyone been able to get the game?

My PS3 got the dreaded blinking red light of death yesterday. The system is completely dead, it won't even let me eject the disc that is inside.

I consider myself pretty fortunate though. I bought it with my Sony card which doubles the original 1 year warranty, and I purchased the system on Feb. 29th, 2008, meaning I'm one week away from my two year warranty expiring. I called Sony to have them ship the coffin last night, any idea what the turnaround time is for these?

The whole process took about 15 days from the day I called Sony 'till I received my repaired unit.

But that was in August 08 so maybe they've sped things up.

I just got the PS3 'serious error, call support' screen, so it looks like my system is shot. Right now, personally speaking, that makes my 360 FAR more reliable than my PS3. (360 had more time and FAR more play on it before it died.)

Anyway, though I'm going to have to wait for Heavy Rain and (AAAAGGH!!) The Show, I'm really, really lucky in that it conked out a mere 2 days before its warranty would have been up!!! (lasted just less than 1 year)

Tip because I have replace 2 of these already. If you have the 60 Gig with backwards comparability and want to keep that make sure they send you back the same unit.

They actually tried to send me a slim back and i raised hell.

I just got my coffin yesterday, they sent it 2 day air. The prepaid shipping label for me to ship it to them is for 3 day select shipping.

It sounds like we have had very similar experiences with both the 360 and PS3. My launch 360 lasted for 3 years, and finally died right before the warranty was up. The refurb system it was replaced with is still going strong, so I've never spent a penny on replacement systems or extended warranties for it.

My PS3 lasted two years, although I'm guessing I've only spent about 150 hours total using it between watching movies and gaming. It also died with one week left of warranty coverage. I'm just glad I turned it on when I did this weekend, I sometimes go a few weeks without using it. I would have been pretty pissed off if it died a week after the coverage expired, especially considering how little time it has been used.

My old fatso PS3 needed repair, but it was for the BR laser and that was replaced. They gave me a 90 day warranty with it but that was almost 2 yrs ago so if something happens to this bad boy I'm cooked.
