DSP Madden Online Franchise Season 2 thread

I don't have any highlights or stats, but just wanted to say that XXXIV got disconnected with 1:46 to go in the 4th with me leading 21-14. I was given two options, continue vs. cpu or quit and don't count the game. When he got back online, we discussed the game situation and what we should do. We agreed that I would finish against the cpu and would accept any result win, lose, or draw.
We got in a party so we could talk and I started the game back up with the cpu 3rd and 4 on its on 37 with 1:46 to go and one timeout. The cpu converted several 4th downs and actually had a guy open at the goal line as time expired but I hit him as soon as the ball got there and jarred it loose to end the game.
We talked a bit more after the game and I told him that I felt bad that he didn't get to at least run those plays himself, but he said he could live with it since he felt like it was his fault that the game froze up. He said several times that he was satisfied with the outcome and since the game has no situational options for online play, we figured the result would be final.
If anyone is not happy with how we worked it out, please say so. I still feel bad that he didn't get a chance to run his offense. Good game XXXIV, I always enjoy playing with you and I hate how this one ended.

Titans out intercept the Chargers
Titans 31 Chargers 20
The Titans travel to dangerous Qualcomm Stadium and sneak out a victory against a very willing Chargers squad.
Lucky for the Titans, Chris Johnson struck early and often to soften up the stout Chargers Defense. . .this 75-yarder in the first half gave the Titans their first lead and they never looked back:
<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>
The game was sloppy as both QB's were vying for who could do their best Jay Cutler impression. . .
Luckily for Tennesee, it was Phillip Rivers winning out 4 INTs to McNabb's 3 (although honorable mention goes to McNabb/Me for throwing two INTs on the same drive--ugh) and his third really put the hurt on the home team by putting his team into a 31-13 hole with this errant toss to Stephen Tulloch who returns it 29-yards to the house:
<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>
Overall, a pretty nasty game, I couldn't throw it worth a darn and for whatever reason Madden has made both Rivers and LT demigods in the game. . .at least I'll have this pest off my schedule in season 3, I am definitely sick of the side-armed bandit and his oddly successful band of CPU controlled receivers. . .
Next week, the Titans (finally) end their CPU portion of the schedule against the Jacksonville Jaguars while the Chargers will travel to NJ to face the mighty Jets. . .

I think you guys handled that perfectly and I would have done the same thing as XXXIV.Badgun wrote:If anyone is not happy with how we worked it out, please say so. First off since I have heard from more than one source that I dont try or care if I win. I care! I try! I want to win! Thank youBadgun wrote:Cowboys 21 Rams 14

Badgun's recounting is perfectly on. I had just completed a 6 yd pass to Jackson to set up, a 3rd and 4 on my 37yd line with 1:46 to play in the game. It was setting up as a fantastic finish but after the play ended Jackson started celebrating(WHY?) in a pointless cutscene my 360 froze. s*** happens. Its the Rams

I think we handled the situation the best way possible.
I didnt think replaying it was fair at that point. It was my game that failed. 63 yds is a very long way for my offense. The Cowboys had come up bigger in the games crucial situations. They had made more of the games big plays. The team that desreved to win won won.
Good game Bad. I would have loved to have driven down and forced an OT rematch from last season but it was not to be.
Cardinals 48 - 49ers 3
Nate Davis threw 4 INTs, 3 to Rogers-Cromartie. 3 of the INT's were returned for TD's, 2 by Rogers-Cromartie, who just so happened to be the player of the game.
Kurt Warner was 19 for 20, for I don't know how many yards, and 3 TDs. His one "incompletion" came in the first quarter (I think), but was caught by his receiver in the end zone, but the refs ruled him out of bounds. It was a terrible call, if I could have foreseen the outcome of this game, I would have challenged it for him so it could have been over turned. I'm pretty certain the WR took 3 steps in-bounds.
Minutes before the game the SF coach was informed that his 1st and 2nd string HB's would be out for several weeks. And after 6 dropped passes vs the Rams last week, there was at least 5 more this week.
So, the 49ers have 3 QB's who can't throw the ball straight. Several running backs who can't run, and several receivers who can't catch and I don't even know what to say about a defense that lets the opposing QB complete 100% of his passes. Bring on free agency and the draft!

Texans 36, Colts 22
HOUSTON - The Texans continued their quest to get to .500 with a win over the Indianapolis Colts, who are still missing coach Scoop Brady as he recuperates from fatherhood. Matt Schaub threw for nearly 300 yards, Andre Johnson posted a 100-yard performance, and Houston overcame two turnovers to win the game.
The Texans bolted to a 21-6 lead in the second quarter, thanks in part to this 77-touchdown reception by receiver Isiah Stanback, with Schaub threading the ball just out of the reach of a Colts defender:

However, the Houston quarterback's luck ran out quickly for the rest of the quarter. After being sacked by Colts defensive end Dwight Freeny for a safety, Schaub made an ill-advised throw that savvy safety Bob Sanders was waiting for:
<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/127. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>
With the momentum swinging dangerously back to Indy and another embarrassing loss to the CPU looming, Coach Brando prayed for a miracle. He received one on the kickoff, thanks to returner Brian "Black Lightning" Witherspoon:
<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/127. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>
Witherspoon juked and sprinted his way 101 yards for the touchdown--his third kick off returned for a touchdown this season--and a 28-15 halftime lead, and the Texans never looked back. Witherspoon also had a 76-yard return that set up another Houston touchdown.
While Peyton Manning was an efficient 24-31 for 261 yards and a touchdown, he was hampered by an ineffective running game and three crucial drops by receiver Austin Collie, who seemed to treat the ball like it was the serpent from the Garden of Eden. Collie dropped a sure touchdown pass in the second quarter and a pass that would have given the Colts a first down on their last play of their final drive.
The Colts ground the Texans running game to a halt, but Houston running back Steve Slaton managed to score three short touchdowns, much to the delight of Madden fantasy players.
The Texans host the Great Googly Moogly Chefs next, while Colts face the gridiron glue factory of the Oakland Raiders.

Raiders institute no-fly zone policy in secondary, crush Seahawks 58-7

Raiders HB Michael Bush spins out of a tackle and bursts to daylight in the 4th quarter against the Seattle Seahawks
Seattle quarterback Matt Hasselbeck had 35 yards passing at the half. If not for a huge 66 yard strike to Nate Burleson in the 4th quarter for the Seahawks' only score, he'd have ended the day with less than 100 passing yards.
Instead, the former Pro Bowl QB ended his day with 12 completions on 34 attempts, 167 yards, no touchdowns, and 3 interceptions.
Conversely, Raider rookie phenom Dane Morrow struggled more than usual. In the past 3 games, he's been 15 of 20, 10 of 12, and 12 of 16.
Against Seattle in a very pass-happy attack, he was just 17 for 34, missing on several deep throws that would have been easy scores.
"I'm not sure what was making me misfire out there, but some of my fades were into the sidelines, and missing a streaking DHB by 4 yards when he's got several steps on the secondary can't happen", Morrow said after the game.
Still, when you finish a day with 331 yards and 4 TD's, it's hard to believe he'd be focusing on the negative. But barely hitting 50% completions is not the target that you want your QB at.
That gave the rookie a staggering 32-to-6 touchdown to interception ratio on the season. His uncanny ability to protect the football as a rookie signal caller is the driving force behind the Raiders 12-0 start.
More concerning for Oakland is the lack of the explosive running game, which led to the many passes this game. Darren McFadden carried 20 times for 98 yards and 2 short touchdowns, but 18 of those yards came on a garbage time run. Michael Bush contributed 3 carries for 38 yards--but one of them was a 35 yarder for a TD where he shrugged off the first hit, spun out of the second, and rumbled downfield for the ridiculous final points.
The Raiders are in a very strange position--undefeated after three quarters of a season, yet not having any margin for error. The incredibly improved Jets team in the AFC East also sits at 12-0, and presumably has the edge for home field advantage with the alphabetical tiebreakers.
That means that Oakland will need to take care of business against the Colts, Chiefs, Broncos, and Titans to close out the season, while the Jets will have to handle the Chargers, Steelers, Vikings, and Patriots.
The chances of the Jets going 16-0 are very good. The changes of the Raiders getting past two very good clubs in the 9-2 Broncos and the 8-3 Titans aren't as rosy.
It should be a wild final few weeks in the DSPFL.

Giants survive scare against JAX. Come back from 14-0 first quarter deficit to win 28-20.
If not for 2 Garrard picks in the red zone, this could have been a decidedly bad outcome for Big Blue.
This game only reinforced the mediocrity of my ability in the DSPOF
I'm humbled watching you guys rattle off big scores against the CPU while I continue to make CPU offenses look like the next coming of Peyton Manning.

Pittsburgh defeats Miami 33-13.
After a lackluster first half that ended tied at 6 with 2 field goals from each team and a last second 47 yard attempt that missed just wide left from Jeff Reed Pittsburgh was able to score 4 tds in the second half while only allow Miami to score one in the 4th quarter.
LeRon James led the way with 2 rushing tds as he was the go to guy when Willie Parker went down in the first quarter with an injury. Rashard Mendenhall and Santonio Holmes also scored for Pittsburgh and Ronnie Brown scored the only td for Miami.
The Steeler defense came up big with ints from Troy Polamalu and Lawrence Timmons, could easily have had two more that were thrown right into the numbers of Steeler defenders but were dropped.
Willie Parker will be ready next week when the Steelers host the Ravens but Pittsburgh will be without starting rookie fullback Erik Pollard who will miss the next 4 games with a dislocated elbow.
Started this game last night but lost connection to the ea servers near the end of the first quarter with the score tied at 7.
Game highlights, all from the second half:

Raiders 45, Colts 14
Oakland QB Dane Morrow returned to his dominant early season form, while All-World QB Peyton Manning couldn't do enough against the Raiders stingy defense to keep possession of the ball.
Manning never made many mistakes (the lone interception coming by DE Greg Ellis on a flat zone), but couldn't convert enough third downs to keep possession of the ball and put points on the board. The Colts were just 3 of 8 on third down, while Oakland was 4 for 6. The Raiders dominated the time of possession battle 33:32 to just 14:28, succeeding in their game plan of keeping the ball out of Peyton's hands.
Manning started dreadfully, just 2 for 8 for 36 yards and an interception. After the early game jitters, he calmed down significantly, even marching the Colts 75 yards in 11 plays for the final points of the game. He would finish the day 15 of 24 for 210 yards, 2 scores, the 1 INT, and a 101.0 rating. Normally a day like that would be sufficient for a victory or a close game, not a 45-14 shellacking.
Enter Dane Morrow.
Morrow's first miss came just before halftime. He was 16 for 16 up to that point. He would only miss once more the rest of the game, dissecting the Colts zone with an efficient 23 of 25, 337 yard, 2 TD, 0 INT, 145.4 rating day. And he wasn't even player of the game.
That honor went to Darren McFadden, who carried the ball 20 times for 124 yards and 4 scores in the contest.
Oakland never punted in the game, converting their only 4th down attempt with under 2 minutes to play to try to keep the ball out of Manning's hands to close out the game. They converted the attempt and ran out the final snaps.
Oakland (13-0) travels to Kansas City (2-10) in week 15, as the Colts (8-5) face a tall order in attempting to rebound by hosting the (10-2) Denver Broncos.

Texans 31, Chiefs 21
HOUSTON -- The Texans overcame their sloppiest performance of the year to hold off the Kansas City Chiefs and notch their fourth straight win. Houston surrendered seven sacks and five turnovers to the Chiefs, with quarterback Matt Schaub throwing two interceptions and losing two fumbles, allowing the Chiefs to hang around and nearly pull off the upset.
The Texans certainly started strong, and early on the game had all the markings of yet another CPU blowout. Schaub connected with wide receiver Grant Gallon on the opening drive, as the rookie out-battled the Chiefs defender to high-step his way to a 67-yard touchdown:

The Chiefs answered with a scoring drive of their own, but running back Steve Slaton quickly made it 14-7 by doing his impression of being shot out of a cannon on this 66-yard touchdown run:

The Houston defense then got into the act, as rookie cornerback R.J. Fields stepped in front of a pass intended for Chiefs receiver Mark Bradley and made it 21-7:

However, the wheels began to come off the Houston cart. Kansas City's defensive front began to dominate the line and were in Schaub's face most of the time. They forced two fumbles from Schaub, both coming with Houston in scoring position, and clawed their way back into the game. Down 21-13 in the fourth quarter, the Chiefs scored on a 14-yard Jamaal Charles run, then made the two-point conversion to tie the game on a controversial play where the Chiefs receiver went out of the back of the endzone and came back to catch the pass.
The Houston offense finally returned to its first-quarter ways, moving the ball down the field and setting up this 16-yard scoring play from Schaub to Andre Johnson to make it 28-21:

Houston's defense stepped up on the Chiefs drive, recording three sacks in a row and forcing a turnover on downs. Despite giving up 300 yards passing to Kansas City, the Texans defensive squad received the game ball for forcing three interceptions and recording six sacks, preventing the CPU Chiefs from capitalizing too much on Houston's own turnovers.
The Texans face their last CPU game against Jacksonville, while Kansas City hosts unbeaten Oakland next week.

Seahawks 20 - 49ers 17
A 17 - 3 halftime lead for the 49ers disappeared in a flurry of turnovers in the second half. Two Seahawk TDs in the 3rd quarter erased the lead, and a 4th quarter FG provided the final margin of victory.
Nate Davis has 3 INTs, 2 in the 4th quarter. The first 4th quarter INT happened at the 1 or 2 yard line, the second was in the end zone with 4 seconds left.
San Fran dominated time of possession 31+ minutes to 16+ minutes, but the turnovers rendered that meaningless.
