Playing on a 1080p LCD it looks fine--but it's obviously not as good as a high-res PC. But better than PS2 lol

When I set up Race Day, I did it on Pro with Simulation and went to Huset's on a default setup.

Was able to run an entire day, with Hot Laps, Time Trial, Heat, Dash, and A Feature. Was a REALLY fun session, too. Why didn't they enable this difficulty for career?
Awesome. I really enjoyed running the day's races in the original. Sold. (once this snow stops)

Thanks TC.

Amazon apparently do - I hadn't thought to check, because Amazon UK won't send a game in the opposite direction - but the postage and packing cost is over double the amount they want for the game, so they can jog on. I'll wait and see if the PAL release happens. Thanks, mate.

I'll try to find it here and ship it to you. All you'll owe me is the sticker price and postage, which shouldn't be that much.

I've done this for Madden for DaveT010 for the last few years. It's worked like a charm.

Sound good?

Damned thing is hard! But it feels just like the old WoO...I agree with Terry-feels like they bought the engine from Ratbag or something. VERY familiar.

The cool thing is, also like Terry mentioned, is that you never get 'out of traffic', and are never not in close proximity to another driver, even if that driver is 2-3 laps ahead of you. That keeps a game like this tense and exciting.

The only gripe I have so far is the implementation of rumble. I fully expected the controller to be almost constantly rumbling with the races on dirt. The severe lack of rumble, except on impacts with the wall, makes me feel like I'm sort of 'floating' over the track, not making contact. Especially in the turns, I'd expect the controller to give lots of feedback. As a result, I'm having a hard time getting the 'feel' of the car in the turns, and wind up facing the wrong direction more than I should.

I went into the options and turned the rumble to 'strong', but it didn't help with the frequency of feedback, just the intensity. Oh, well.

If they gave you rumble with bumps, your hands would go numb from a 30 lap feature. I'd much rather have impact rumble than traction rumble.

And don't even try this with a wheel--no adjustments for sensitivity, and it's like the dead zone is a mile wide. Almost impossible to actually drive it with one.

But with something like DiRT, you get nearly constant rumble, and it just helps me 'feel' in contact with the surface. Sure, you're right about the dirt track racing and rumble, but still...I can't help but feel disconnected from the track somewhat. I just wish you could feel the turns. I'll get over it, I suppose... :)

And I don't have a wheel, so no worries there. But I never could use a wheel with the first WoO, and I actually drive better with the controller in racing games, anyway.

I had to actually kill the signal to my subwoofer when I play this game...it just is a constant rumble (kinda like the controller), so I'm not sure how often I'm going to play it when I have to turn my entire sound system down. :)

Depends on the camera. I found that "far" camera to be really screwy like that. I use the closer camera (the cockpit camera is for the birds in this one) and it has some pretty good engine sounds and you get a better view of what the car is doing.

On a side note, my loading times were pretty long and that little framerate hitch on any lap record was annoying, so I deleted the Installed Game from the HDD and it improved the loading times significantly. That's odd...a game that runs WORSE when installed.

But the lap record hitch is still there. I spent a while online last night and met some cool guys that were fun to run with. Seem to be running into the same sets of guys repeatedly though. This certainly isn't a runaway hit, as you will typically only find 3 or 4 sessions going on at any given time. That's disappointing.

Same thing happened with the first one, really, though. Not much interest in it. Of course, the first one wasn't on Live, so that's a moot point, I suppose. :)

But I never thought that we'd get much action from this one. In fact, I had not intended to get it at all at first. But, hey, for 20 bones, it's a no-brainer if you like dirt racing...

Thanks as usual for your detailed info Terry. Just saved me $20 bucks and driving around trying to find it. :) Since I already have WOO for PC and PS2, and plenty of games that I don't have time to play, no reason to get another one that I would probably not play. And yes, I am a steering wheel, cockpit view snob when it comes to racing games. Of course I am still intrigued by the online play, but damn if I ever play online anyway.

I actually like the cockpit camera, and can 'nuance' the turns better in the car than I can from the third person (although I'm still not very good at it!). The biggest problem is all the damned dirt getting on the windshield, but it's easier to see out of the windshield for me than through the camera in third person...

Why don't you use your tearaways? I think its button X.

Yeah, you'll only be able to use one tear-off every two laps.

You have to layer them on your helmet, and think of all of those layers of plastic in front of your visor--one on top of the other. Even if they're thin and perfectly clear, they're still tough to see through the more you put on your visor.

So general rule of thumb is 1 tear-off every 2 laps, which is the number they always give you in the race in the game.

Also, the lower you stay on the track, the fewer clods you'll have collect on your visor. The mud isn't coming from you (which is obvious), but the cars in front of you, which are usually pitched sideways in a corner, throwing all those clods out toward the stands. If you're down underneath, you'll be hit with far fewer of them, since you're not in the middle of the mud-slinging path.

I know it's gamefaqs, but one of the developers from Big Ant studios has been posting in a thread at GF, and he mentioned he is checking certain forums 'to see what fans of this kind of game want.'

http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/genmessa ... 105&page=1

I figured someone may want to drop feedback.

My very limited experiences with the game so far haven't been all that great due to technical issues. I did the first race night in career mode (Volusia) and like Terry said, it was incredibly easy...even with my driving being about 2 secs a lap behind Terry's. I was expecting and was fine with that, though.

I wasn't expecting the chugging frame-rate that came on now and again, and more horribly, some sort of polygonal graphics glitching that saw a triangular shadow shape stretch from the upper left corner of my screen to down past center screen that occurred every time I entered a certain corner on the track. (1st person -no car visible- cam). This happened every time in that corner across all races for the race night, and it obstructed vision...which made turning that corner pretty hairy.

I had fun other than that, but that's a pretty big 'other than' IMO. For a $20 I don't expect brilliant tech, but I also would like to see the track as I'm turning corners. I'm hoping it's only that track in that camera mode.

I've never seen that graphical issue, but I DO see that stutter a little too frequently. Usually it screws up a corner entry or something, as it's a good half-second hiccup. Hopefully a title update, but yeah...it's 20 bucks.

I always drive in the "close" chase cam, as it's tough to see your peripheral and what you're about to slide into (or what's about to slide into you) in 1st person or cockpit. Maybe it's a bumper cam thing.

Terry got me away from the cockpit cam last night, and it made a pretty big difference in my speed around the track. I like the cockpit cam for the 'immersion' factor, but it simply doesn't allow for enough feedback visually as to what you're doing, who's riding your ass, all that.

I've never seen that polygon glitch either, Web, but DO see that ridiculous pause (it's too long to call a stutter) that throws your whole groove off. They need to patch that.

But on the whole, I think the old WoO crowd needs to pick this up. For one thing, hell, it's 20 bucks. If I can afford it, anyone can! Two, online is pretty damned good. Granted, it was just Terry and I running laps last night, but the framerate was good and fast, and that kind of racing is just fun. No long, drawn out races that you have to invest lots of time in, it's kind of reckless fun, and eight people on the track that you know would be a riot.

Yeah you were starting to have some good sequences there. It's pretty fun once you start getting your rhythm down. It's almost like golf...you can have a lot of screw ups, but that one pure lap is bliss.

And I don't know if it's just me or what, but as I've progressed further in career, they're starting to pick up speed--almost like they're upgrading their cars or something. I made a last-lap pass to win my heat in the last race I had, and the times are within a second of mine per lap instead of 2.5+.

Eldora in particular had me working for 4 or 5 laps to get from 4th to 1st. Once you pass them, you can still drive away from them, but at least there is some competition there. If they continually get harder as the season goes on, it's not exactly realistic, but that's a beacon of hope.

That's actually why I started a season mode, because I expected that this may be the case. In games where you can't set a difficulty in season mode, the difficulty often starts out easy and gets harder as you progress. I was going to test that out to see if I noticed it occurring.
