I'd definitely agree about Hester getting that much yardage. . .at least you could see the real Chris Johnson getting to 300 yards (Although probably not quite as easy as I did vs. the CPU). . .it's a real feat to do something like rack up 200 yards receiving with an average guy like Hester (return game brilliance aside). . .Brando70 wrote:Ridiculous performances by Chris Johnson and Hester (and I mean that as a compliment). CJ is on pace for 2100 yards rushing, and Hester already has 2100 combined receiving and return yards.

Special thanks for backup "quarterback" Chris Hanson and his 17 rating for making the following score possible:
Jets over the Patriots, 91-9.
Brady goes down early, punter Hanson comes in and can't hit the broadside of a barn.
Mark Sanchez throws for 515 yards and 8 touchdowns.
Pats turn the ball over four times, all returned for TD's, including two fumbled kickoff returns in succession during the fourth quarter.
Jets have a week off to think about their sins.

The Rams tired of these one sided CPU games barely manage a win vs the CPU Cards 31-24.
Game balls go to
1)Steven Jackson who made his triumphant return from the injury vs the Raiders with 137 yards and 3 TDs.
2) Kurt Warner for forgetting its been 8 years since he wore the banana and blue throwing 5 ints.
3)Donnie Avery for being knocked out of the game early in the first qtr keeping the Rams season long streak of at least one game ending injury to either him ,Bulger or Jackson alive.

Wow, I can't believe that New England doesn't have another QB. Dan, is there anything we can do to help clean up the CPU rosters? Like maybe adopt a team and just help ensure that it has the proper number of players? I don't want to go too crazy with that, but it's really ridiculous that the CPU team management is so messed up in online franchise.Slumberland wrote:Special thanks for backup "quarterback" Chris Hanson and his 17 rating for making the following score possible:

I added a QB to New England. If someone wants to go through and look for obvious issues like this I can add players to the cpu rosters. Truth be told there isn't much to pick from in the FA pool.Brando70 wrote: Wow, I can't believe that New England doesn't have another QB. G7, you have a PM about our upcoming matchup.
I sort of wish we could do a 'rape the CPU' draft and liberate all that excellent talent from the purgatory of CPU control, but on the other hand it's nice to have teams new or returning players can take control of that will have something going on on their rosters.
I'm pretty curious to see the state of these CPU teams in year five or six, if we get that far. I know I'd like to get that far, even further, even if there are only a few joining me for the ride.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers 0 - Washington Redskins 41
The Washington Redskins extended their winning streak to four with a 41-0 disintegration on the road of the winless Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Clinton Portis started the game with a 75 yd TD run and the Skins never looked back. The Skins Defense got their first shutout of the DSPFL, recording 5 sacks with 2nd year OLB/DE Brian Orakpo getting two.
The Skins Offense outgained the Bucs 237 to 35 in the first half as the outcome of the game was never in doubt. The 6-2 Redskins now head to NY to begin a tough 3-game NFC East stretch consisting of the Giants away, the Cowboys at home, and then the Eagles away that could determine the playoff destiny of Washington.
Danimal, I will upload my Detroit highlights from last week (forgot to do it mid-week) so you can grab a couple if you want. Tomorrow evening, or perhaps Monday before I play GameSe7en, I will upload my highlights from this game (mostly Defensive highlights!) to get ready for the v. Carbon-based life form highlights from the Giants game.
To wit:

Albert Haynesworth nets one of five Redskins sacks of Freeman with 7:03 to go in the game.
And the highlight of last week's game against the Lions:

Chargers Follow the EA Script, Win 27-20 Over the Texans.
I'm not normally one to whine a lot about losing at this game. I know my limitations as a player, and I'm certainly not good enough to take a CPU game for granted. But I also have played Madden long enough to know when I'm dealing with a scripted, CPU screwgee game, and that's what I got today in losing to San Diego.
I could tell I was in trouble from my opening possession, because my o-line couldn't run block to save their lives. The Chargers were shedding blocks like sweat escaping from a Biggest Loser contestant. Furthermore, the CPU ESP was in effect on defense, as they almost always came out in sets shifted to where I had called a run, even on weakside plays. I would audible, but again, the blocking just wasn't there.
After allowing the Chargers to score on their opening drive, I managed to really clamp down on defense. However, I threw a pick that led to a field goal, and then my punt returner completely muffed a return at my 10. It even looked like I was winning fight for the fumble, but the Chargers had it and converted that turnover into a TD and a 17-3 halftime lead.
We traded field goals in the third quarter to make it 20-6. I was moving the ball well through the air -- Schaub finished 19-31 for 312 yards, and Andre Johnson and Owen Daniels both had 100 yards receiving -- but I just kept stalling out on drives. The Chargers were doing little but got a break when fullback Mike Tolbert broke three tackles on a pass to the flats, turning a short pass into a 48-yard gain that set up their field goal.
I kept it together and got lucky, hitting receiver Grant Gallon on a double cornerback blitz for a 50-yard TD, cutting it to 20-13 with almost the whole fourth quarter left:
<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>
The next series, the Chargers had third and seven. I came out in Dime Cover 2. If you watch the right side of the video, you'll see my cornerback Dunta Robinson inexplicably leave his zone to sprint toward the middle of the field:
<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>
There was no play action or pump fake, so therefore no reason for him to do that. It lead to an easy conversion to Vincent Jackson. Furthermore, the slower Jackson kept outrunning the speedier Robinson on the drive, making a couple more big catches to set up a touchdown and a 27-13 lead with six minutes left.
Next series, first play, I came out in five wide and got a big break: one-on-one coverage with Andre Johnson against Quinton Jammer. Note that Johnson has 94 SPD and 95 ACC compared to Jammer's 87 SPD and 92 ACC:
<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>
Not only does the slower Jammer catch Johnson on a ball thrown perfectly in stride when Johnson had a two- or three-yard gap on the defender, but the 96 CTH-rated Johnson dropped the pass. I did score and cut the lead to 27-20, but I lost a lot of time because of that drop.
After stopping the Chargers, I got the ball back just after the two-minute warning. Facing third-and-five, I hit Johnson for what seems like the conversion or pretty close to it:
<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>
However, I was given fourth and two when play resumed. Maybe the video isn't accurate and the ball was further back in the actual game, but when I watched replays of the next play, I swear my center was snapping the ball past the marker.
No matter, I found Owen Daniels, he of the 88 CTH, on an out, with perfect positioning between the ball and the defender:
<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>
He of course drops the easy catch, ending the game as I had only one timeout left.
My playoff hopes were dim to begin with, but facing a series of CPU teams, I thought I could at least make it interesting. So much for that.
Sorry for the rant, but it's one of the most bitter losses I've ever had in a Madden game. I definitely could have played better, but every big break went the Chargers way and there was a lot of ridiculous gameplay going on.

BHoward, let me know when you are available to play our game. I don't think I have anything special going on this week, so I should be able to play just about any evening.

Pittsburgh improves to 7-2 with a 32-27 win over New England. The Steelers thought they were in for an easy game when they scored tds on their first two possessions of the game and at one point had a 20-7 lead before the Patriots would get a late td in the second quarter to put the Steelers up only 20-14 at the half.
New England would take the lead on their opening drive of the third quarter before the Steelers would answer with an 80 yard td run from LeRon James to retake the lead for good as they would add two 4th quarter field goals before the Patriots would score on a 68 yard pass to Wes Welker with under 2 minutes to go in the game. New England had all three of their timeouts and decided to kick off but Pittsburgh was able to fight their way for a first down and were able to run out the clock.
Willie Parker and LeRon James each had big games running the ball for the Steelers, Willie had 19 carries for 150 yards and 1 td and LeRon had 269 yards and 2 tds on 20 carries. Billy Volek led the way for the Patriots with 219 yards passing with 3 tds and 0 ints.
The Steelers will travel to Baltimore next week while the Patriots will host the Dolphins.
Highlights from the game:
LeRon James scoring on a 56 yard run in the first quarter:

Panthers defeat 49ers 34-27
In a contest that was tied four times, the Carolina Panthers were able to outlast the SF 49ers 34-21. The Panthers, who continue to play without their injured starting RB DeAngelo Williams, turned to his backup Jonathon Stewart who stepped up to the challenge. Stewart rushed for 91 yds on 17 carries that included two scores from 3 yards out each. The 49ers Frank Gore ran the ball 16 times for 45 yards and punched it in one time from six yards to put the Niners up 27-20 in the fourth quarter with under three minutes to seemingly seal a victory. Only to have the Panthers score offensive and defensive touchdowns with just over two minutes remaining in the game.
The scoring started off slowly as the Niners struck first on a 25 yard field goal with 5:07 remaining in the first quarter. The Panthers tied the score with their own 34 yarder in the 2nd quarter. The Panthers took their first lead of the game on a 28 yard field goal later in the quarter.
The Panthers then went up 13-3 on a spectacular passing play from QB Jake Delhomme to his star WR Steve Smith. The 49ers LB Spikes aggressively bit on a play action fake by the QB Delhomme, who was then able to hit Smith for a 62 yard TD pass. Smith was able to get open on a double move and caught the pass between two 49er defenders.

Carolina starting the fourth quarter down by 7, and having their play calling being questioned by the announcers, were able to maintain their calm, tying the game at 20 on the first of backup RB Stewart's two 3rd touchdown runs with 7:53 left in the game.
The Niners then methodically marched down the field to take the lead again 27-20 with 2:43 left on a drive that culminated with a 4 yard run by Frank Gore.
With only one timeout and the 2 minute warning left for the Panthers, things looked gloomy for the home team. The Panthers started their game tying drive from their own 25 yard line. The Carolina QB was able to find his favorite target WR Smith again on a big passing play of ironically 49 yards, beating double coverage again at the two minute warning to get the Panthers to the three yard line:

Panther RB Stewart was then able to punch in his second 3 yard touchdown run on a draw play from shotgun formation that spread the 49er defense to tie the game for the last time 27-27.
The Panthers then kicked off to the 49ers with worries of being able to halt the seemingly unstoppable Niner offense with 1:57 left in the game. The Panthers D, however, was able to turn the tide after Player of the Game, CB Chris Gamble picked off an errant Alex Smith pass and returned it 23 yards to give Carolina their margin of victory 34-27.

The Panthers move on to face the Atlanta Falcons and look for help from the 49ers as they move on to face the New Orleans Saints.
Corgy99, great game, that was very exciting. Your receivers had some bad cases of the drops on plays that could have extended some drives for you. which would have probably led to a different outcome in this game. Good luck going forward.

NY Giants 17 - Washington Redskins 9
The Washington Redskins saw their winning streak end at four with a 17-9 defeat to the NY Giants in the Meadowlands in a tough, defensive NFC East battle.
Despite Winning the turnover battle 2-1, the Redskins could not find the endzone on a day when Jason Campbell was sacked four times. Eli Manning was effective, throwing two touchdown passes, and was sacked twice. Brandon Jacobs was held in check, but did enough to help the Giants control the clock. He scored a key TD on a pass over the middle which he caught at about the five and carried in, plowing through Laron Landry and two other Skins defenders.
The 6-3 Redskins now return home to face the division leading Dallas Cowboys before a three game CPU stretch against the Eagles, then the Packers, and then the Eagles again. After that, the Skins are scheduled to play the NFC North leading Bears in a game that will more than likely be impossible to play.
Good game G7. I jus could not deal with your dominant D-line. Even when you rushed four, at least one guy seemed to break free, untouched. I simply didn't adjust well, either, going to my gadget plays way too often. That TD at the end of the half proved to be key, but I had every chance to take control in the 3rd quarter and I failed to do so.
Good luck and we will meet again at FedEx in a few weeks!

Good game to you also. Yeah, the drops have been a recurring theme for the season. I'm really starting to hate my own team, can't wait for the off-season and some fresh faces on the field.TheGamer2 wrote: Corgy99, great game, that was very exciting. I am still seething over the OLB "intercepting" the pitch out to the RB though. I know it wasn't your fault, and I think it only led to your second FG, just bugs me when something like that happens, but I have NEVER seen anything like that in a real NFL game.
I think that happened to Zeppo's Redskins against the Panthers in season 1 -- Julius Peppers came off the end and picked off a pitch to Portis.corgy99 wrote:I am still seething over the OLB "intercepting" the pitch out to the RB though.
