Keeping up with all these great releases
Anyone else struggling to get through a backlog of games? I've barely gotten into Dragon Age: Origins and Assassins Creed II, my copy of Mass Effect 2 just arrived, and of course Bioshock 2 and MLB: The Show loom on the horizon. On top of that I'm still digging Modern Warfare 2 online quite a bit. I feel like an alcoholic locked in a bar but with only an hour to binge: so many choices that I don't know where to begin.
MW2 has totally messed me up.
Barely even started Brutal Legend, and have Assassin's Creed and GTAIV: Episodes on the gamefly backlog.
BioShock 2 and Dante's Inferno are about to drop. Battlefield and Red Dead Redemption a little further off.
I also had a lot of other games like Bayonetta, Mass Effect 2, Darksiders, Dark Void, Indy Evolution and PES 2010 on the 'maybe' list, which will all most likely be skipped entirely.
Hell, I never even went back and finished Gears of War 2 now that I think about it.

will admit, when it have to do with older games (xbox, ps2, ps1), i try to buy something if the price is low (ie out of print games can be difficult/expensive to find sometimes)
however, when it have to do with newer games, via experience i have learned "less is more". In other words, i don't puchase a new game unless i know will have time to play/complete it.
new games don't go up in price. They only go down. In the past, unadulterated curisoity & excitement for a game would make me make multitudes of vidgame purchases on Day 1. However, the advent/popularity of gameplay videos via youtube and video reviews have remedied this. Long story short: Basically, am now able to get 'my fill' of any given title without purchasing. And then look back to the game to purchase when i have time to play it and/or the price goes down.

In the very same boat. Dont know when to play what. 09 was a hell of a year for video games and 10 hast started off the same way with Mass Effect 2. Which, Im afraid will leave the games that are shelved shelved.
My list of unplayed or hardly played games collecting dust...
-Uncharted 2.
-CoD MW2
-Gay Tony GTAIV download
-FIFA 10.
-NHL 10.
-God of War Collection
-Rockband 2
-Sacred 2
I started using Steam for some insane reason a few weeks ago and picked up these games Im not playing...Doesnt make any sense does it?
-Torchlight
-Railroad Tycoon 3
-Company of Heroes
-Kings Bounty
-Rome Total War Gold
Plus they have Tropic 3 for $13.60 this weekend
On the bright side I have managed to play through Dragons Age, Assassin Creed 2, Demon's Souls and the original Mass Effect while getting in plenty of Forza 3.

I'm actually trying to deplete my gaming library as I'm playing less and less titles at one time. Just this afternoon, I sold Fifa 10 because I hadn't played it in over a month and a half, and am now down to three games (FNR4, NBA2K10, and Rock Band 2). I'm using the money I got from Fifa towards MLB The Show 10.
I don't know whether to call it fortunate or unfortunate, but other than the occassional non-sports game, I don't purchase every stellar title that comes along. Most likely, I'll purchase Red Dead Redemption on release, but other than that, my gaming has taken a back seat to other interests. I still love gaming, and the wife still doesn't understand it.

Of course it doesn't . . . but I have my own share of titles that I purchased that I don't play. For me, buying games is an obsessive-compulsive disorder. I bought some older games on discount that I don't play.XXXIV wrote: I started using Steam for some insane reason a few weeks ago and picked up these games Im not playing...Doesnt make any sense does it?
- XIII (it's backwards compatible)
- Just Cause
- Chronicles of Riddick, Assault on Dark Athena
- NBA 2K10
I mostly spend my time on MW2 and Carcassonne (because it only takes 15 minutes to play a game).
I'm trying to reign in my spending so I don't wind up having expensive bookends

Part of the glut is that I got DA:O, AC2, and MA2 for $40 each because of trade in deals or coupons, so that's why I bought them. And its not like I don't want to play them -- I've already tried DA:O and thought it was cool, and last night I finally fired up AC2 and really liked it.
The problem specifically is that I've got games that take a while to complete and are hard to play in short settings. It's difficult to fire up a game like DA:O and just play for an hour, at least for me. It's not like MW2 where I can fire it up over lunch if I feel like it and kill 14-year-olds for 45 minutes.
I may just save DA:O or MA2 for a month, when my wife and daughter are going out of town for a week. Then I can become the couch potato I need to be to finish these games.

I was not even expecting to like MW2, let alone have it sucking up most, if not all of my video gaming time.
I am very slowly working my way through AC2 and I have a few other games I have barely touched. I'm now struggling to NOT pick up games like Mass Effect 2, MAG, Bayonetta and a few others I was hyped for because I know I just won't get to them despite good intentions.
It took me awhile to sit down with DA:O for exactly that reason. Now that I have it's all I want to play. It's keeping things like AC2 on the shelf, and looks to be doing so for awhile. The only other thing I'm playing is MW2, because it's like crack.
I've had to discipline myself to play Madden for the last week, because it wasn't worth staying in the DSP OF league if I was only going to play league games and get my ass kicked.
Never had more stuff than this on the shelf and been dying to get to it like this.

I'm pretty happy with my backlog. I finally finished Batman AA and now I'm playing Mass Effect 2 and Uncharted 2. I bought DA for $35 on Black Friday and I really like it but it's going to be a game I play here and there over the next few months. I want to finish Uncharted 2 before The Show comes out.
I do have to admit that I have started playing non-sports games on the easiest or second easiest level just to save time and frustration

I traded AC2, World at War, and Op: FP2 last night to get Mass Effect 2. Loved all three, but it's getting to the point where multiple playthroughs pf games just isn't gonna happen, in terms of sp games. I'm Also becoming far pickier about what I purchase, as I will relegate most sp games to gf.
I'll definitely pick up RDR on day one, and BF2 as well, however...

I started doing this a year or so ago and it really has made non-sports games more enjoyable for me. Sure, I might get my ass kicked when playing online but it has helped keep me from quitting games out of frustration. Even with that, there are way too many games I've played the opening third or so and then never gone back to just because the "next game up" has been better.Leebo33 wrote:I do have to admit that I have started playing non-sports games on the easiest or second easiest level just to save time and frustration

I'm with you...gotta wait on Bioshock 2. The first one was good, but w/ Uncharted 2, Mass Effect 2 and Fallout 3 (started playing again)...I've got plenty of games that need my attention. And we all know as soon as the Show comes out...it's all I'm going to play for a few months. So I got a month to crank through the three previously mentioned games as well as Forza 3, Fifa 10 and Madden 10. No sense in paying full price for a game that I may not get to for a couple of months.
