corgy, I could probably play tonight around 9:30 - 9:45 Eastern or tomorrow similar time. If you get this soon enough, let me know what you prefer.

I can play tonight, but it might be a little later before I can get on. Probably closer to 10 EST.

After 2 restarts because my 360 froze, which has happened a dozen times in the last 3 days i was finally able to get the game in.

Denver goes to 7-1 with a 31-8 win over the Jags. Jones Drew rush for 188 yards against me, half of it coming on a 94 yard scamper.

Denver has a bye week and then their schedule becomes difficult.

Also of note to everyone I noticed that my depth charts had been completely changed. I have no idea why this happened but I had LOLB at DT, SS at DE etc.

SF 28 - NYG 22 (OT)

Post by corgy99 »

Gameseven might post a more detailed description later, but the short story, 49ers beat the Giants 28 - 22 in overtime.

San Fran controlled the game and field position for about 3 quarters, then Alex Smith forgot his team was not wearing the blue jerseys. 3 INT's (one of which was my fault, the other two, the ball wasn't even thrown within 5 yards of intended receiver) and one fumble (by Gore) all deep in their own territory, I believe, allowed the Giants to get back into the game. The Giants tied the game up with about a minute left. SF drove down the field quickly, but Nedney missed his second FG of the day. (Would still like to know what happened there, both FGs were hit with full power and near center of target, but both came up short, the second FG only being about 25 yards or so.)

Anyway, SF won the coin flip for OT and took the opening kickoff back for a TD.

Gameseven, nice comeback, good game.

Man, after seeing the box score for this game this morning. . .I was hoping for at least the highlight of that return. . .

Will this spark a forum discussion on the merit of the NFL Overtime System? :)

 Still seething about the game results.

While I don't think I could properly recap the game well enough, I'll sum it up in one word: sloppy

From the rain-soaked field to the fact that we started OT with the odd 22-22 score.

This game featured:

2 missed 2-Pt conversions by the Giants, one made by the Niners.

2 Missed makeable FGs by the Niners.

A fourth quarter where the Niners tried to give the game away with TOs in the air and on the ground.

A seeming bolt of lightning as Hedgecock barrelled into the end zone where my screen flashed solid white for 3 seconds.

Brandon Jacobs would leave the fourth quarter with a broken thumb.

Finally, I don't know if it was lag, wind, the field conditions or the ghost of Scott Norwood, but the kicking game was shite. In addition to Corgy's 2 missed FGs, the kickoff after I took the lead was pooched with zero power despite jamming the stick up setting up Niner play from the wrong side of the 50. One big play from Gore later and the Niner's were back within the red zone. And as soon as the OT kickoff was in the air I knew it was trouble as it fell in the corner even though my meter was barely off center.

Good game Corgy. Despite the fourth quarter meltdown, you played well enough to win and that's what counts. Good luck the rest of the way.

The OT system obviously sucks! as I was hoping for a Giants victory...This 2-4 is looking uglier 8O . I should be able to beat the CPU Seahawks maybe 8)

I've noticed if you get any kind of weather, especially with wind the kick power is significantly decrease, it's absurd how much it is affected.

No doubt. Badgun and I had the same issue in our game a couple weeks ago and we were discussing how messed up it is.

I'm still trying to figure out how my depth charts got screwed up so bad. I didn't have one defensive player in the right position.

Thanks for the heads up. Ill check/fix mine before I play my game.

Not that it will make a difference. I cant seem to stop anyone with that D anyway. I know what I need to work in in the off season.

The wind doesn't even factor into it. Any rain or snow and the ball suddenly weighs 10 pounds. Anything beyond a 30-yard attempt becomes highly iffy. I missed a gimme FG in my Bears franchise in the snow. It was similar to what Corgy said, where I nailed it and the ball just literally died in mid-air despite a very small wind factor.

I haven't played enough in the snow to assess its impact on passing, but rain also throws passing accuracy way out of the window.

You can say that again. Check my Bears-Cowboys recap! Digital Cutler still hasn't recovered from the debacle! :)

What I don't understand is how that rain gave the Cowboys defenders such sticky hands :D

Well I highly doubt I will be able to flip the week early tonight or tomorrow morning before I leave as there are 5 games left.

4 of those are games against the CPU and 1 (Bears vs Jets) is not. I was hoping with so many games against the CPU this week I'd be able to flip it before going away for you guys but no such luck.

I'll check again tonight and in the morning around 8:30am or so but it looks like you'll be waiting until next Tuesday for the next week of games.

Rob and I were planning to play tomorrow, but Rob, if you're around tonight, I can do on the late side this evening if you're down.

During lunch I was just looking at some stats. You know Jones - Drew rushed for 188 yards last night on 17 carries. In fact he was hard to stop, yet the CPU only rushed him 17 times.

I had 6 sacks which means I was getting good pressure but the run was shredding me. So with that in mind I went to look at some stats and did you know you for Pass Attempts thus far this season you have to get down to team #11 until you hit a human player.

The top ten teams are all cpu controlled, well Carolina is 8 but they have had a human owner for just 2 games. Here is the top 10 without all games being played this week.

Lions
Falcons
Ravens
Bills
Seahawk's
Buc's
Packers
Panthers
Eagles
Patriots

Team with the fewest pass attempts the Steelers

In contrast the top ten running teams are:

Cowboys
Broncos
Raiders
Steelers
Saints (surprising)
Eagles (surprising)
Redskins
Giants
Titans
Colts

Team with the fewest rush attempts the Chargers

The CPU just doesn't rush the ball enough, perhaps it is due to game circumstances or time of possession I don't know. I do know that if the Jags had continued to pound the ball last night I would of been in trouble during that game.

No need to rush, I doubt 5 games will get played tonight CPU or not. People can relax and enjoy the weekend.

I would have to guess that the high volume of pass attempts for the CPU is probably a result of getting beaten around more often than not. . .

I've noticed that the CPU doesn't run at all once trailing going into the 4th quarter. . .down 35 or down only 10. . .you hardly ever see them run it. . .

I've also noticed that the CPU is in love with running out of passing formations, which isn't always optimal. . .especially once you've shown it two or three times. . .

I'd prefer getting the games done tonight, as I'm going out of town on Saturday and will have to (gasp) put my team's hopes in the hands of the CPU if the week flips after the weekend. However, I'm fine with it if games don't get done.

I will fully admit to being gun shy after leading the league in interceptions last year plus my team is deep at the running back position now so I don't feel the need to attempt many passes in a game but I do have to improve in the passing game for times when the run is shut down as it was in the Kansas City game.

The return was actually anti-climatic. As he mentioned, the kick went to the corner and it was short. I think I only had to juke one guy and it was a straight shot down the sideline.

I think the lag may have had something to do with it, there was one defender on my butt all the way, but he didn't - or wasn't able to - switch to him for the diving tackle.

I was grateful though, I was not looking forward to a 15 minute OT, and with the way my FGs were going, I don't know what I would have done if I faced a 4th down, even if I was within the 5 yard line.

Just tried the Greasemonkey script to view the franchise stats: pretty cool. Until I found out I am dead last in offensive yards per game, even behind all the lame-o CPU teams.
