Colts Move to 6-0 With Win Over Texans
INDIANAPOLIS - The Indianapolis Colts took a page out of Muhammad Ali's playbook Monday night against the Houston Texans, absorbing body- blow after body-blow from their opponent before finally delivering the knockout punch.
The Colts turned a late interception into seven points and a 17-13 win in a tough, hard-hitting game with the Texans. The win gives the Colts a two-game lead over division rival Tennessee before the two teams meet next week.
The Texans offense shook off their recent doldrums by taking the opening kickoff and marching the ball on a 12-play drive that lasted more than seven minutes. Houston's Steve Slaton made it 7-0 Texans on a five-yard run that quieted the Indianapolis crowd.
The Colts took over but ran smack into disaster:

Peyton Manning forced a pass into coverage, allowing linebacker DeMeco Ryans to pick it off and return it to the Colts's 35. Houston looked ready to capitalize, but the Indianapolis defense forced a turnover on the next play.

Safety Bob Sanders leveled Slaton, knocking the ball loose and allowing defensive tackle Eric Foster to scoop the ball up. Only a diving tackle by Houston quarterback Matt Schaub prevented Foster from a big return.
The Colts looked ready to tie the game in the second quarter after Manning put together a long drive, but the Hall-of-Fame quarterback made his second rookie mistake of the half, forcing yet another ball into coverage.
<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>
Houston cornerback Fred Bennett picked off the pass at the five and halted the Colts's momentum. The Texans made the most of the turnover, driving down the field and getting inside the Colts 10 with just over a minute left. The Colts defensive line stymied the drive by sacking quarterback Matt Schaub on third down, forcing Houston to settle for a 25-yard Kris Brown field goal and a 10-0 lead.
The Colts quickly recaptured the initiative on their next two possessions. With barely a minute left in the half, Indianapolis launched swift drive as Manning carved up a hesitant Houston secondary playing safe zones. That drive led to a 43-yard field goal by Adam Venitari and made the game 10-3 at the half.
In the third, Indianapolis received the ball and put up their most impressive scoring drive of the game, an 11-play effort that lasted half of the third quarter. Manning made a huge play when he delivered a perfect 18-yard pass to receiver Austin Collie on second-and-18, giving the Colts a first down inside the five and setting up a one-yard touchdown run by Joseph Addai that tied the game at 10-10.
The Texans didn't let the now rabid home crowd distract them, however, as they struck back with a drive of their own. Riding the legs of Slaton who finished with 11 carried for 97 yards and also had 34 yards receiving, Houston moved into Colts territory. As they had all game, the Colts defense bent but didn't break. They sacked Schaub, and then on 2nd-and-16, Bob Sanders made his second huge hit of the day, leveling receiver Andre Johnson and forcing him to drop a 20-yard pass that would have given Houston first-and-goal. The hit also knocked Johnson out, and though his injury status was "low," Coach Brando made the controversial decision to keep his star out for the remainder of the game and rely on his defense. The Texans again had to settle for a red-zone field goal and a 13-10 lead.
The Houston defense did hold, forcing a Colts punt. But the Colts defense stepped up, picking off a Schaub pass.
<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>
Linebacker Gary Brackett returned the pick to the Houston 11, and several plays later, Addai plunged in from one yard out, making the game 17-13 with 5:42 left to play.
Despite lacking their best offensive weapon, Schaub rallied the Houston offense and led the Texans to the Colts 30. The Colts defensive line, which had harassed and hurried Schaub for much of the game, came up big yet again. They recorded two of their five sacks during the last three plays of the drive, including this 11-yard sack of Schaub during a busted screen play on 4th-and-16.
<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>
The Colts ran out the clock and saved their undefeated status.
Both Manning and Schaub were an efficient 16-for-21, but neither quarterback could hit the big play and finished with 171 and 166 yards respectively. The Texans had their best rushing attack of the year, with 20 carries for 103 yards, while keeping the dangerous Colts ground game in check, limiting Indy to just 55 yards on the ground.

That was a terrific game, Scoop, and congrats on the win. Really thought I had a chance to pull it out, even after that terrible interception I threw, but your defensive line kept the pressure and made those two huge sacks. Good luck and we'll meet again in week 13.

The Browns go on the road and show the Ravens there is still no love lost between the two cities. Cleveland laid a whopping 54 points on them with the final being 54-24.
The big news was Eric Wright breaking the NFL record for most interceptions in one game with FOUR! All four came in the first half and two were returned for six, one for 25 yards and the second was for 30 yards, Here is Eric reaching the end zone for his second score and the third pick of four

Getting his first career NFL touchdown, the first round pick Jarmion Bellows took a Quinn pass 79 yards showcasing his break away speed.

Another early draft pick showed his worth making making 4 field goals on 4 attempts. This one showcasing his powerful leg, booting one from 50 with plenty to spare.

As you can tell, Coach Nozzle is proud of this 3rd round pick. the front office thought he made a mistake taking a kicker that early, but he has proved he was worth the early money. Putting nearly every kickoff in the back of the end zone is helping the D as well.
The last highlight is classic Jamal Lewis. He is running well this year for an old man. He finished the day with 76yds on 19 carries and 2 td's. Here is his longest run from 14yds out.

Coach Nozzle is proud of the effort his team is giving every week. With a few breaks, this team could easily be one of the unbeaten's. They are playing smart football and there seems to be a lot of chemistry on the fairly young team.
The Browns will host the New England Patriots next.

I see Brando already beat to the highlights and write up so I'll just add that it was great to finally get a game in against a human opponent and this game was a lot of fun. Both of us moved the ball at times but both of us made our fair share of mistakes. I got really lucky with the timing and placement of Brando's last mistake. I can't wait until our week 13 rematch.
I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.

The Bears took out their frustrations after last week's difficult loss to the Cowboys on the hapless CPU Lions with a 49-7 dismantling. The Bears coaching staff came out with a Belichickian gameplan, relying almost exclusively on the passing game and eschewing their rushing attack. Jay Cutler feasted on the Lions to the tune of 37/47 for 507yds and 5 TD's. Devin Hester led the receiving corps with 11 catches for 205yds, and also added a spectacular punt return for a TD.
When asked about the air attack, Bears coaches indicated that they felt that it had the twin advantages of taking advantage of Detroit's poor secondary and getting Culter to shake off his Week 6 meltdown.

Jets steal one in Miami, winning 16-13 in overtime.
Gang Green took a 10-3 lead into halftime utilizing a "three yards and a cloud of dust" offense, but Jared's Dolphins started to have their way with the opposition in the third quarter, converting a key fourth down (that required the chains) just out of field goal range and eventually setting up this 9-yard touchdown run by Ronnie Brown:
<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>
The Dolphins (who went two-for-two on fourth down attempts) soon found themselves up 13-10 and driving late in the 4th quarter to put away the game. But with 77 seconds left and Miami in the red zone, this happened:
<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>
The Jets then went to the spread offense and hoped for a miracle from their second year QB, who made some questionable throws but was bailed out by his receivers...

...netting enough yards on the one-minute drill to tie the game with a 34-yard field goal by Jay Feely to send it into OT.
Which brings us to the coin flip, where after Jared expressed commiseration for Slumber having chosen tails to begin the game (on account of Madden's ugly mug on the head of the coin), the Jets embraced the ugliness and put their fate in the jowls of Mr. Turkey Leg himself. They were rewarded with possession.
After a 43-yard Leon Washington kickoff return and a 28-yard pass to David Clowney, the Jets finished with a 27-yard chipshot for the win:

Very good game Jared... I felt stymied and frustrated almost throughout, but somehow came out of it with a W. Lucky as heck.
You are correct, sir.tmdba37 wrote:
I hate to be captain obvious here, but it looks like you missed a game against the Bills. . .a 27-24 squeaker that Buffalo won. . .I have to imagine that it simmed before your romp over the clowned lions. . .

SD 55 (CPU) - SF 38
I'd like to think Mac couldn't have done better himself, but the way things were going, who knows...Brando70 wrote:Was the San Fran-San Diego game played or simmed? Crazy stats for that one.
After trading 3 or 4 70+ yard TDs, the score was 17 - 17 with under a minute to go in the first half. Facing 4th at 3 at the 38, SF made the fatal mistake to go for it, figuring SD would go 60+ yards in under a minute if stuffed. Well, they were stuffed, and they were wrong. SD marched right down the field and scored a TD with 10 seconds left.
On the ensuing kickoff, Jason Hill ran it out to the 20 and dove to avoid hits and potential fumbles. With no defender hitting him, he fumbled, SD recovered. With 6 seconds left, Rivers hit Tomlinson in the flats, he ran over 4 guys to score the TD as time expired.
The 2nd half was blur of anger, SD defenders running unblocked to sack the QB, DBs waiting/jumping the pass patterns, and Tomlinson running like he was 7 - 8 years younger.
LT must have finished with over 300 total yards, Rivers had almost 400 passing...

Yeah, even the CPU starts to jump routes when you throw it 50 times and run it only 15corgy99 wrote:The 2nd half was blur of anger, SD defenders running unblocked to sack the QB, DBs waiting/jumping the pass patterns, and Tomlinson running like he was 7 - 8 years younger.
