I just checked the schedule. Not what I wanted to see. I get to take my 1-3 to the CPU losing ass to Oakland next game.

Brando PM with tips! Anything that will help keep Terry under 100 points would be nice.

Third-down conversions are killing me on both sides of the ball. I'm converting 33% and allowing 56% for the season. Last two games I'm 0-17 while allowing 14-24. I blame my offense mostly -- that progressive fatigue makes it hard to stop a good running game in the second half if the defense is on the field for a while. I need to sustain more drives so that doesn't happen and rethink my defensive playcalling on third down to get my defense off the field.

Of course, what better way to iron out the kinks than facing an undefeated Colts team with Manning, Reggie Wayne, and Dallas Clark :D

Do you have any goats to sacrifice? That might help. :D

Yeah, that's a tough one to solve, too. It wasn't like I'd get huge chunks of yardage, but when it's 3rd and 4 and you get 4 1/2, it doesn't help.

Not sure how to fix it. If you sit back in soft zones, the QB has too much time and eventually finds a seam to throw to (like Jackson's TD early in the game).

When you blitz, receivers can get behind you (like DHB's catches). I have no idea how to change your playcalling to fix your third downs. The only thing I'd say is to adjust 1st and 2nd to allow fewer 3rd and short situations. Maybe up the pressure on the first two downs, because there were far too many 3rd-and-1 to 3rd-and-5 situations. Those are killers because the Offense can do just about anything. When you forced me into 3rd and longs your stops were much more solid (and forced turnovers).

So I know you didn't ask for it, but I'd examine first and second down play calls more than 3rd down. Any play call on 3rd and medium distance is a tough one.

And XXXIV--you have the benefit of having the most experience against me, by far. I've played more games against you than anybody else, so you've got a definite advantage there. You know what I want to try to do and do a pretty good job of stopping it most games.

AND, you'll have no McFadden to worry about, as he's out one more week. Without McFadden to worry about, it's a vastly different offense.

Upset special?

I'd like tips on stopping the QB roll out, Mac killed me last night by sprinting Rivers to the sideline and having a ton of time and hitting a man crossing. That is until I put the guy in a wheel chair for life.

You can CB blitz all the time because that can be adjusted to, my ends we're not getting off their blocks to stop him. It was really frustrating, not that I try much but I can't seem to ever do it either.

Get used to the playmaker controls on defense. I routinely call one play and then adjust 3 or 4 guys prior to the snap all the time.

I may call a base 4-3 Cover 2 Man 5 times in a game--but it's 5 different plays by the time of the snap.

If you switch to the DE and hit your A button and then down on the L stick, he switches to a QB contain no matter what playcall you chose. Hitting up on the L stick drops him into a 5 yard hook zone. Right on the R stick drops him into a flat zone.

I had one play yesterday where I actually came out, set the line to pinch with the LB and down on the R stick, then set both DT's to move into QB contains. It was basically a user-created twist prior to the snap, and the Texans offensive line was completely confused. The screen was thrown but my DT was literally just standing there waiting for it.

The ends going into contain will completely shut down a rollout QB, but then you're vulnerable to off tackle runs and other crap.

Crossing routes? I may drop a DT into a hook zone right in the center of the field, so suddenly what looked like an opening will be a 3 man zone.

It's all about calling a play, evaluating the offensive formation, and then trying to cover up any potential weaknesses. QB rollouts and screens are among the easiest to stop IMO. I think Mac may have tried one or two of them, but he had nowhere to go so it was pretty pointless.

The Chargers offense is so reliant on getting the ball into the hands of Gates and into the flats, and then over the top to the huge receivers. If you let him roll out, you took away the flat pass but you still have 2 huge, damaging plays that can kill you--Gates and Jackson over the top. I prefer to try to stop a roll out one direction, manually cover the opposite side, and try to stop the Gates stuff. That left the wideouts downfield as the best option, and he hit me with those a few times.

I don't think I'd ever be fast enough to manually switch to 3 or 4 different guys presnap and then give them individual assignments.

I wish it worked like 2K hit a button, the hit another button to select the guy, then adjust. Manually cycling through to get to the right guy and adjusting always ends up with me controlling a guy who is out of position.

It's really not that tough--just hold B and use the D-pad to move the cursor to the guy you want to choose. Down and Right usually flips me straight to a DE or CB, so then I just hit left to go back to the DE, etc.

It's not like you have to cycle through with 10 presses of the B button or something.

TC, that's great information, I wasn't aware you could switch defensive guys like that. It should be obvious though, since you do the same on offense.

You don't need an invite you just rejoin with the password, what that was I don't recall it's somewhere in the first league thread.

You're on a bye this week anyway I believe.

Keep in Mind the trading deadline is week 6, which means you have to next Monday 11pm CT to make any deals.

Miami's trade block:

WR Brandon Trammell (R)

The guy is a Ted Ginn Jr. clone, with a 97 speed, 99 agility, 99 acceleration, and 97 jumping. However, being a Ted Ginn Jr. clone, his catching stats are in the high 70s, and I need a more solid possession receiver. Am looking for a WR, not in the Ted Ginn mold, to replace. If you need a speedster, he's your man.

QB Pat White

Good potential, and a very mobile QB. Also fun if you want a QB for the Wildcat! Wildcat!

I also might consider very good offers for Jason Taylor. When playing at DE, he's got a 91 rating! Would be looking for someone similar in the defensive front 7.

Also, the Browns defeated the Dolphins 20-17 in overtime last night. Will post videos tonight (if Nozzleman doesn't beat me to it).

After some network problems and honey-do duties on Sunday, this game had a restart last night.

The star and goat of the game was Alex Smith. He threw for just over 300 yards, had 6 TDs (4 of them to his own team) and 4 INTs. Gore rushed for almost 150 yards with TD. V. Davis and Crabtree both had 100+ yards, with Crabtree's coming on 2 TD catches for 50+ yards each. I think both of the INTs for TDs were thrown in his direction too.

Next up for San Fran is SD, I believe.

I'd be interested in the WR. I'm drawing a blank on my WR stats, might be a little thin, but take a look at SF and let me know if anything interests you.

Thanks for the comments boys. Means a lot coming from this crowd. I have never thought of myself as being very good, just wanted to have fun playing with my favorite crappy team.

Terry, I do believe you manage to make just about everyone your b*tch

I am at work, so if I may not get a chance for a recap and videos until later. I will say this, this was a REAL BARN BURNER! Who knew exchanging some punts could be so fun! Oh one last thing, DA proved to be a somewhat worthy backup :)

Browns defeat Dolphins, 20-17, in overtime

In a close matchup marked by injuries, the Cleveland Browns behind the arm of backup QB Derek Anderson, defeated the Miami Dolphins 20-17. The first half of the match was a defensive slugfest, with neither team getting into a groove offensively. The half ended with the Browns up 7-3. In the first possession of the 2nd half, Miami methodically drove down the field, with the drive capped by a 3-yard Davone Bess reception for a touchdown. However, Cleveland responded with a long drive of their own on the next possession, resulting in a 42 yard Price field goal to tie the game at 10-10. After a punt by Miami, Cleveland took a 17-10 lead on a 20-yard Jamal Davis TD run.

However, Miami responded on the next possession, and drove down to the Cleveland 12. Facing a 4th and I, they attempted a Ronnie Brown run up the middle, which looked to be stuffed....

<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>

...but Ronnie Brown somehow twisted his way over the first down marker. On the next play, Chad Pennington hit Davone Bess on a TD pass to tie the game at 17 with about a minute left.

<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>

Cleveland were unable to get into field goal range, and the game went into overtime. Miami won the toss, but were unable to mount a drive, as evidenced by this crucial B. Trammell drop.

<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>

Miami were forced to punt, and on Cleveland's drive, backup Derek Anderson (in after Quinn was knocked out of the game) hit Cribbs on a 61 yard reception.

<embed src="http://cdn.www.easports.com/static/110. ... player.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="640" height="360" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" flashvars="height=360&width=640&file=http://cdn.content.easports.com/media2/ ... ="></embed>

Cleveland sealed the game with a field goal on third down, and went on to win 20-17. The game was marred by injuries, with Ronnie Brown being injured twice, Ted Ginn once, and Brady Quinn once. However, all players have recovered and are ready to play next week. Pennington was 12-22 with 123 yards passing, 2 TDs and 2 INTs. Ronnie Brown had 19 rushes for 105 yards, while Davon Bess hauled in 5 receptions, 2 for touchdowns. Miami faces the Jets next week in what is now a must win match for the Dolphins.

The Cowboys come into a soggy Soldier Field and take down a dreadful Bears team 48-35. Jay Cutler threw 5 picks, 3 returned for TD's, in a performance that could only be described as eerily life-like.

The game also featured 4 KO returns for TD's, one by Devin Hester, one by Johnny Knox, and two by May from the Cowboys. Hester was also a shoestring tackle away from returning a punt for a score.

The Bears made a gallant attempt at a comeback from 24 points down in the 3rd quarter. They cut the Cowboys lead to 10 with 5 minutes left in the 4th quarter, but the fifth and final Cutler pick was too much for the home team to overcome.

No highlights because I got booted from the EA servers.

Just a wild game. Cutler was regularly missing passes by 10-15 yards, which I attribute partly to the weather, partly to DeMarcus Ware's monster pass rush and mostly to my suckage. I'd love a rematch in the playoffs in dry conditions for sure. Lots of fun, Badgun. Good win

You know what they say...A win is a win, but I'll be honest I wasn't proud of anything to do with that game. Two kickoff returns and two picks returned for TDS accounted for 28 of my 48 points. Rob did a great job of getting back in the game after being down by 21 at one point. He actually threw a scare at me as he was driving and only down by 10, but he threw his 5th pick of the game which sealed the deal for the Cowboys.

My lone bright spot was Marion Barber who had 23 carries for 155 yards. The Cowboys have a bye this week while Chicago hosts the 3-2 Buffalo Bills. Good luck Rob.
