MLB: 10 The Show -- First Look
I was going to put this in the other Show thread but figured, new year, new thread. Can't wait for March 2 to roll around:
http://sports.espn.go.com/videogames/ne ... id=4749938
I read one of the developers say they've been working on something super-secret for this year. I also know that Sony's planning big things for 3-D and the motion control for 2010...it will be sweet if The Show uses either of those technologies. Otherwise, I'm hoping for some new camera angles and I'm golden.

"There are also eleven new stadiums in the game including five minor league stadiums and six classic fields including Forbes Field, Crosley Field, The Polo Grounds, Shibe Park, Sportsman's Park, and Griffith Stadium (and the ability to choose a classic stadium as your home field during Franchise)."
Classic stadiums! Outstanding! Been waiting for that one.

With the addition of some classic parks and the ability to play with them in Franchise mode March 2nd can't come fast enough. I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas. I believe some new cameras will be put in the game that will knock our socks off.

Seriously, I've got the same feeling (like a kid waiting for Christmas). I'd love to get in an online franchise this year (assuming it's improved as much as they say) with some fellow DSPers. I'll flip Dan for the Cards, and if I lose, I'd even be up for running with my old hometeam Pirates using classic Forbes Field.
Re: MLB: 10 The Show -- First Look
If the online bugs get fixed I'm in. I don't think anyone will want to flip me for the Reds. The thought of playing with the Reds in Crosley field make me want to visit my wife's office for the best 12 seconds of her life.GTHobbes wrote:Only took a few years, Jack.JackDog wrote: We agree on something!!!![]()

I hate to be a downer but I don't really see what they can add that will have me buy this version. Last years is fine, plays well and is still not boring to me a year later.
I'm not sure what there is to entice me, if it really is 3D or Motion control I'll pass because Sony's track record for delivering new tech is s*** IMO now.
Maybe this super secret thing will blow me out of thew water, but I'm fine with last years.

Would love to see them really work on making the fielding more dynamic. They can do a lot of work in that department as it's been basically untouched for too long.Danimal wrote:I hate to be a downer but I don't really see what they can add that will have me buy this version. I feel the same way, I'm still enjoying this year's version, and unless I find a good deal, I might just stick with 09. Though the catcher improvements to RTTS is enticing.

Sounds like a lot of improvements. 11 new stadiums, including 6 classics(would have liked Ebbetts included though),daylight transitional lighting, the addons for RTTS,better pickoff moves(hopefully I can pick off a runner, instead of getting picked off),added animations, etc. This will be a 1st day purchase for me. And as a side note, when 2k's exclusive license agreement finally runs out,the bar for EA to get back into baseball is going to be sky high. Better for us

Absolutely. The more the merrier. I love The Show but if EA can show up with a solid game I would defintely buy it.GTHobbes wrote:Again I say Amen!snaz16 wrote:And as a side note, when 2k's exclusive license agreement finally runs out,the bar for EA to get back into baseball is going to be sky high. Well since I was totally out of the loop on this I decided to do some investigation.GTHobbes wrote:I also know that Sony's planning big things for 3-D
First the 3D is a Blu-Ray technology, as in movies. Yes the PS3 will be compatible, but you'll apparently need a new HDTV or presumably they will release some type of solution to work with existing TV's and Projectors.
What this solution will be and what it will be compatible with is pure speculation at this point. (I hope I am covered since I have a 1080P Sony Projector)
Bottom line I could see this being used for games somewhere in the future, but i wouldn't count on this being seen in gaming anytime soon.
Now all this research I just did assumes were discussing the same thing, if Sony has announced something else specifically for PS3 gaming I couldn't find it.

Dan, all of the talk about the 3D PS3 gaming in 2010 has come over the last few days. Here are a couple of the stories that I've seen on the topic (they're not talking specific games yet, but I remember snaz or someone a few months ago linking a story that had what appeared to be pics of The Show). You're right, though, unfortunately it looks like a new TV may be required. Since there are no specifics yet, I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'm covered already as well.
The last link, from September 2009, contains a video of the guy playing Wipeout in 3D.

"After a strong 2009, Sony plans to focus its efforts in the coming year on some new initiatives -- notably the still unnamed and, with a "Spring 2010 release," curiously under-promoted PlayStation Motion Controller, 3D games, and the PlayStation Network."

"You know what's absolutely useless? A video of Wipeout HD being played in 3D, with some schmuck wearing 3D glasses and babbling on about how much fun he's having. Well, that schmuck is this Engadget editor, the video can be found after the break, and we've gotta say: we loved it. Especially for something like Wipeout HD, whose neon-infused tracks make for an almost too convenient example of rapidly approaching vanishing points, we'd say 3D could really be a quasi-"killer app" for consoles going forward -- especially if those fancy new motion controllers don't catch on for Microsoft and Sony. In many ways, 3D just seems to make more sense in a video game than for a movie, and the whole problem of finding content to deliver in the format has already been solved: a software update for the PS3 sometime in 2010 will enable it to provide a 3D viewing experience to "all" existing games on the system."

There is at least one game either on PSN or the XBL Arcade that is made for 3D. You will need a new, 3D compatible HDTV for 3D. Already, last year's BCS Nat'l Champoonship game was broadcast in 3D, abd last year's Super Bowl was broadcast in 3D on a closed circuit for NFL execs to see.
That is most of what I know about the subject.

Thanks for the links.
I'm very curious about 3D tech, more so then motion control like Natal and WTF Sony is calling theirs. I'm interested in Avatar to see how the new 3D glasses work, I honestly couldn't ever watch a 3D movie with those card board glasses I get a head ache. I am hoping this new technology fixes that.
My understanding is that this is the first step and in a few years you'll be able to buy TV's and Projectors with the tech built in, without having to wear any glasses.
Anyway sorry for the thread jack, just very curious about this 3D stuff.

Some of the online leagues were stagnant to put it mildly in 09. If they fix the lag, the full online season is something I look forward to. I don't expect any major visual upgrade as the game is already eye candy, just focus the online play and it's a must purchase for me.
BTW, Twins Jonh Mauer will be the poster boy for 2010.

I agree. Let's hope they work the kinks out.10spro wrote:Some of the online leagues were stagnant to put it mildly in 09. If they fix the lag, the full online season is something I look forward to.
