I cheated on my wife and it's my damn business. Since I'm worth a billion dollars plus, I don't ever have to set foot on a golf course again.
Last year when I was out, tv ratings dropped by 50 percent and a lot people lost money: (hotels , cities, restaurants etc) because I wasn't in town. Now if the media doesn't get offa my ass, a lot more money will be lost.
So all of you people who depend on me to be in a golf tournament better start rallying to my side and get these media houndbitches off of me or else.
True, especially for the PGA TOUR. But when it comes to sponsors, how many of Tiger's major backers are companies that depend solely on golf to promote their products?
Almost none.
So if Tiger Woods never set foot inside the ropes at a PGA TOUR event again, Accenture, EA Sports, Gatorade, Gillette and Nike would funnel their money into another athlete or athletes and get good return for investment.
They might even get more return. Tiger's price tag was staggering, and there's no way he's going to be as effective of a pitchman after this scandal, at least short- to medium-term. And some people never may forgive him or believe in him as before since his image centered so much around idyllic perfection. That's just a mirage now.
Nike probably has the most to lose since its entire golf line was built around and exploded around Tiger. I'm not sure if Nike even had a golf division before Tiger. If it did, it was about as popular as Keds are now among NBA players.
But the other companies? They can find someone else and prosper. Maybe not to the level they did with Tiger, but they're going to have additional sponsorship dollars to spread to other activities because they're not going to pay as much to one endorser as they did Tiger.
Quick update: Nike already has pledged full support for Tiger and is "eager for his return." Well, no sh*t: Without Tiger, there is no Nike Golf.
Take care,
