You do know that you can go to Alternate Controller Configuration (B I believe) and that puts the dribble moves to the Right Stick in 2k10...right?
Actually, I'm not sure that it does (I could be wrong though). I'm using Configuration B and it puts the dribble moves on the triangle and circle buttons (on the PS3). Not sure about Configuration C...maybe it's there and I overlooked it. I like using the right stick for the shot stick so I don't mind having the dribble moves mapped to triangle and circle.
Um, one of them does on the 360 at least...I promise, I have the game. It may be configuration A or C or whatever, but one of them puts the dribble moves on the right stick. That's why I said "B I believe".

You freakin' made my day! No, I didn't know that. I rented the game and haven't really messed with the configurations other than a few of the sliders.

By the way, I still prefer shooting with the buttons. For me at least, I don't necessarily find the timing to be that precise with the sticks. The best example is when I'm at the free throw line. Seemingly, I use the same motion and one is late, the next is Ok, and the next is perfect.
LOL I didn't know that either.

I love how you guys complain about control schemes but don't even look at the options to see if you can change em! Come on now...

I blame it on the kids and wife. Ok, maybe just the wife.

Pure ignorance on my behalf.

I have to try using the stick for dribbling moves in 2K. Great find and made this thread worthwhile all by itself!!!

2K users.....do you prefer the shotstick ot the buttons to shoot? I love the idea of the shotstick, but it is really tough down in the paint when you cant tell when to release it. It gets stuck in a post move animation and you have no idea if you shot correctly or not.

p.s. Good to see this thread come to life a little! Makes the battling with Db worthwhile :)

I tried mapping the dribbling moves to the right stick (like Db pointed out) and its MUCH BETTER! Makes the game a lot more enjoyable. Only downside is you now have to shoot with the button, although u can still shoot fouls with the stick.

I had a chance to buy the 360 version at Walmart today $25. I played the NBA Today mode and now I see what you guys mean by dynamic commentary, awesome. 8)

Now that I have the 360 version for both Live and 2K10, I feel 2K is the strong winner. I like the 2K animations better, the player models, the graphics, AI and commentary in 2K better than Live.

What's funny is that EA has done squat with the ESPN license and 2K has hammered them without the ESPN license. I also like the pace better in 2K even though you can adjust the game speed in both games. Also the patch has seemed to clear up some of the framerate issues in 2K10. My PC graphics card couldn't run 2K10 but that has all changed with my recent ATI 4670 purchase.

Live is still a good game and I also enjoy it a lot but NBA2K has built a strong foundation over the years and Visual Concepts are awesome at making sports games.

edit: I also like the variety of fouls in 2K.

When I think about what 2k could've done with the ESPN license and the NFL license, if they had them for the past 5 years, it's enough to make me cry.

You are lucky. I tried 2 Walmarts and they both were all out and the video game depts looked ransacked.

well, I finally settled on 2K and couldn't be happier. Once you dial in the sliders and your diff level, its a very enjoyable game of hoops. when it comes to these 2 games, I think u just have to pick one and go with it. they both have their positives and negatives, but if you focus on just one game, you can make it work for you.

sometimes I just marvel at the AI running its plays or finding the open man under the basket. or just marvel at the countless animations in the game...or the outstanding play by play. the game does have a few quirks, but the shining moments outweight them by a large margin. Also, that "nosebleed" camera has got to be one of the best basketball video game cameras ever!

I agree with most of your points Jack. I still have both and enjoy both. No need to settle for one Hoops game. :)

One quirk I still have with NBA 2K is after scoring a basket my PG retreats back under the opponents basket. That usually sets off a mismatch where the closest player starts covering the wrong guy and the CPU takes advantage of that.

It doesn't happen all the time but enough to still make it an issue.

Ooh man do I dislike the wide open missed lay-ups in 2K10. I know that has been around for a while in this series, but it messed me up in my last game where I could have tied the score late in the 4th quarter. It was a four point turn around, and I never could recover after that.

I just upped my layups slider for "user" and I rarely have that issue. The sliders really work well in 2K.

My biggest issue is that when I am on a fast break, if you press "turbo" it seems like your guy actually slows down. Turbo works well on Defense, but on offense, it seems to be a detriment.

It took a couple weeks with NCAA Basketball 10 to lead me back firmly in the 2K basketball camp. I was frustrated with NCAA because of the lack of CPU passing from the post, fouls, and CPU three point shooting. I was still in the mood for some college hoops so I dusted off my copy of College Hoops 2K8 and updated rosters. It took me 2 games with plenty of varied CPU offense (CPU took 12 threes in my first game but 36 threes in the next one) to truly realize how bad NCAA 10 represented college basketball and how good College Hoops was/is. When news that Iverson was back on the Sixers broke I grabbed my copy of Live 10 and just wasn't in to it after seeing all the variation and animations of 2K8. So I thought I'd give NBA 2K10 a try and I'm really enjoying it. The graphics and framerate aren't ideal on PS3 but other than that it plays an extremely solid game of hoops.

Leebo, are playing 2K10 in 720p or 1080p? It looks like crap in 720p. On the PS3, it looks gorgeous in 1080p.

2K10 is hands down the best basketball game this year.

If there is another game on the market to compare it to...there's a comparison. :)

I've never played as many games, or had as much fun playing, a basketball game as I have with 2k10. I'm up to a 32,000 rank with my point guard in My Player mode with the Lakers and our team is vying for the playoffs. For my money, this game ranks right there with The Show when it comes to animations, commentary, the "little things," and everything else that makes a GREAT sports game. And I couldn't care less about pro basketball otherwise.

Couldnt agrre more. I'm glad I took my time and tried both games for a good while. In the end, 2K10 is definitely the better all around game and I dont even like the THE PLAYER stuff. The commentary, animations and depth of the game is incredible. Having a lot of fun playing thru my season.

I simply can't get my 2K10 disc out of my PS3! No, it's not stuck. I can't stop playing this game. I tell myself I'm going to play Fifa or Fight Night, and I end up playing a couple games of 2K10. I continuously keeping starting my season over as I just can't pick that favorite team to play with. I think I have finally decided to run with the Suns as I love the up tempo game.

Don't run with the Suns! Pick a real team, like the ATL Hawks!!! :)
