I like this, though we probably don't need Dan to update the FA list all the time....we could probably figure this out ourselves.Brando70 wrote:I think a time limit would also be a problem with the thread alternative, but how about this:

Brando, I think your idea could work, . . . however. . .
One thing I noticed in making the list is that there are quite a few FAs out there not from the FA Draft releases that are as good or better than the FA Draft releases.
I'm not sure if Danimal wants to open the FA draft to all available FAs or just to those released for the draft, but if he does, the list I made would obviously not be the complete group we could pick from. If he does not, and wants to keep it only to those release for the FA Draft, then it wouldn't be an issue.
One thing I could do is make a list of all available FAs 65 or over, and that would pretty much take care of the issue. It wouldn't take me too long, but I just want to make sure which way Danimal wants to go.

Ok I am hearing everyone. Personally I'd love to do it live and get it over with but that won't work. I also was a bit tired last night and not thinking, so the whole thing about not listing by positions and saying a CB in round 1 etc I guess I could deal with that, but I did this once before and it was "take a CB in round one unless its under a 65 overall and has 80+ speed" which i don't want to get into.
I'm ok with doing the thread idea, if Jared wants to sticky a thread we can start tomorrow assuming everyone sees this thread. If it starts to drag on someones pick they will get a warning and then be skipped. If you're going out of town and have no web access then I guess you can send me a list.
Before any of this can happen a few things need to be cleaned up.
1. Nevermind Mac made his releases
2. Everyone needs to make sure they released their FA, by Zep's post in the other thread he made it seem like everyone hadn't.
3. You can pick any FA in the pool, not just the ones who were cut, although I assume they will be the best.
4. KNOW YOUR ROSTER LIMITS: chances are you're going to be dropping someone to add someone. So when you make a pick you need to do the move in game quickly or tell me who you wish to drop and I can do it via the web.
So i need jared to make a new thread.

On a related note, Jared stole one of the draft picks I was taking a hard look at. I can't remember if it was a wideout or something else, but I hate you.
However, QB Dane Morrow (my 1st round pick) is going to be a freak of nature in my offense. I have no idea how he fell that far, but the guy has 81 short accuracy, 79 med, and 86 deep with 97 throwing power and 84 PA. He even ended up with A potential as well.
Buh-bye, JaMarcus!

Actually, you did the same thing for some guy I was looking hard at during the middle rounds. So I hate you right back! (And I thought of taking Morrow, but my needs are more WR and less QB right now.)TCrouch wrote:On a related note, Jared stole one of the draft picks I was taking a hard look at. I'm making the new FA thread right now. If it's OK, I suggest that the draft officially starts on Friday (as tomorrow is Thanksgiving); however, my guess is that if teams at the beginning of the draft are ready to make picks now (cough, XXXIV, cough) then they can do so in the thread. AND if teams want to pick through Thanksgiving, they're welcome to (though we shouldn't ride someone if they're not able to pick then).
Speaking of Jared stealing picks. . .
I ended up having to feed the baby during the draft and he snatched two guys right before my pick that I had cued up, so I was stuck fumbling around with the sort button and the controller in one hand and a four month old and the bottle in the other. . .but all in all it was a blast listening in and watching it all go down. . .

For those that couldn't release guys for the FA Draft due to Madden roster requirements, I believe it is A OK with Danimal for you to grab a super-low rated FA at the same position to hold the place, and then release the guy.
I did that for Randy Thomas with Danimals blessing; I grabbed a 40-rated RG to hold the place, and then release Thomas. I will get rid of the 40-rated stiff once we get through this FA Draft and/or I can pick someone useful up with the FA points.
A couple of the guys I couldn't find may likely have been listed in the wrong position, such as the guy Terry noted. I will have to check on that when I can in a little bit.
And how did a QB fall so far? I must've been not paying attention, because I really wanted a good QB and I saw my two top QBs were gone by the time I got to my pick. Oh well.
So you say JaMarcus may be up for being traded? Hmm. . . . Actually the one I really want is Drew Brees. Well, me and everyone else, I'm sure.

Anybody have any issues with Create-A-Player?
I tried recreating Dane Morrow for an offline "practice" franchise to get used to his arm, and used his pic, stats, etc. When I saved and went to the roster, it didn't add him at all. Tried changing the name, etc. No matter what player I created, it wouldn't show on the roster, and I had the free roster space and cap room. It just didn't show up, even in FA's.
Anybody have luck creating a player?

I had a few people suggest that there is no need to go more then 2 rounds in the FA draft and that anyone else could be claim via the regular FA bidding process.
Since were done to low 70's and 60 players I kind of agree with that. But I don't want to change it if the group as a whole thinks it's a bad idea. So chime in please.
Also for week 1 games if everyone could save and send me at least one replay from your game, by that I mean going to EA Sports World, downloading the flv and sending it to my email address I would like to try and create a weekly highlight show.
Is anyone opposed to sending me a clip, even if its just one person from each game sending me a clip or two and maybe a blurb on the game. Thoughts?

Although this FA draft is taking longer than most thought, instead of totally ditching it midway, would it make sense to have each team pick two players in round three since we're all probably just filling our roster spots at this point. . .then we're only in one more time around and then we can get this thing started up again. . .Danimal wrote:I had a few people suggest that there is no need to go more then 2 rounds in the FA draft and that anyone else could be claim via the regular FA bidding process.

I am okay with cutting it to 2 rounds next time, but I already released guys with the idea of grabbing 4 FAs.
I am open to any ideas to speed this up, I just don't want to spend FA points to grab two guys I could have picked up for free.
Love the highlight show idea, would definitely send in the clip.

This is just an idea I'm throwing out there but maybe next offseason we can eliminate the Free Agent draft and have our own mini free agency period before the draft. Everybody will still drop the players specified but we bid on them instead of draft them. That way it mimicks the real NFL more and it shouldn't take as long to get through since you could just state that free agency period is from this day to this day. It would work just like last season where once a bid is put on a player there is a 24-hour period where they would need to clear without a higher bid.
As far as this free agent draft is concerned, I am ready to call it quits and start the season after the second round. I wouldn't want to do it and have Brando feeling screwed though. I'm fine with him picking up two of the remaining free agents without using points after the second round is complete.
