It kills me there is this much press about this.

It shouldn't surprise anyone. Celebrity's and athletes are always under a microscope in our country. It's part of the price of fame and fortune.MizzouRah wrote:So, they would investigate me if the situation was the same? Who cares? It gets a little sickening at times, but it's what we have become.
Take Tiger out of this, and it's nobody's damned business. It's nobody's damned business anyway. TMZ might be right, but TMZ is a bunch of bottom feeding scum, and it's none of their damned business, either. 3 pages of s*** that isn't anyone's business but Woods and his wife. I'd be pissed off as hell, as would you if it were you, if my private life were up for commentary and scrutiny like these guys are. The man plays golf and has problems...he ain't the pope.
Let it go...
Let it go...

Maybe not, but it is our right to know what happened. Whether an athlete, actor, wall street thief, US President, or whatever, when John Q. Public is the primary reason for your noteriety, then John Q. Public is going to be more interested in what you do. If i get the sh** kicked out of me by my wife, no one cares except those closest to me. For people like this, there are millions of people who feel they have the right to know about it. Appropriate or not, it's reality. But it's not OUR job to find out what happened.
I don't agree with the term "right". It's not our right to know what happened. If it's deemed public record then yes we have a right to that information.RallyMonkey wrote:Maybe not, but it is our right to know what happened. The only thing that bothers me, if it was one of us, 1) no one would care; 2) the police wouldn't be so "nice". They would have filed charges or traffic infractions and said, here show up in court.
As for Tiger, I think this breaks his aura completely you know the guys in the locker room will not have the same fear of him as before. In the clubhouse, I don't see how his opponents look at him the same way. (Edited because some of you out there think I meant he should hit his wife.)

We don't have a 'right' to know what happened! Just an insatiable desire to know others' business, and the more rich and famous, the more we try to call it a 'right to know'. It's...none...of...our...damned...business. This is what happens when news gets mixed with TMZ crap.RallyMonkey wrote:Maybe not, but it is our right to know what happened..But it's not OUR job to find out what happened.
If I'm having some sort of issue or marital problem, it ain't any of your damned business unless I want to make it your business. Tiger doesn't. He HAS that right. I have no right to take it from him just because he happens to be good at golf and makes a living doing it.

Why not?Teal wrote:But it's not OUR job to find out what happened.Zlax45 wrote:His caused damage to the community so it is the police job to find out why it happened.
Woods is the most famous athlete in the world. We pay his salary by attending tournaments, watching tournaments on TV that command big rights fees, buying Nikes and other products he pitches, etc.
Woods is a public figure, perhaps the most public figure in worldwide sports. Part of being a public figure is constant public scrutiny. That's one of the payoffs of celebrity generated by earning more than a billion dollars by playing a game.
Take care,

Because it has not one damned thing to do with his golf game, Paul. How many other golfers on the Tour have had marital problems, or other failings? How many of those do we slobber over?
People just love to see the big man fall. That's all this is about. No one really gives a flat damn about Tiger's marital problems. They just want to see the successful guy get a black eye, so he'll look more like 'us'.

Not to mention the fact that they have behavior clauses in all endorsement deals...so if you F up...you lose your endorsements. There is a reason for that...you get paid to pitch products and for being a good guy. If you prove otherwise, then all contracts can be terminated and the public will want to know why. Please tell me that was a joke. Please tell me you forgot to add the smiley face.JRod wrote:As for Tiger, I think this breaks his aura completely not because he was in a wreck because his wife did a number on him. You know the guys in the locker room will not have the same fear of him as before.
Tiger Woods can bench-press more than 300 pounds. Are you trying to tell me that he couldn't tear his tiny wife in half if he wanted to?
So it makes him less of a man because he showed self-control when his wife went postal? Would Phil Mickelson fear Tiger even more if he rearranged Elin's face last Thursday night?
Unbelievable.
Take care,

Then let Nike worry about it. How many of the other golfers have anywhere near the fame of Tiger Woods? You're comparing apples to oranges. Woods transcends golf; he transcends sports.Teal wrote:Because it has not one damned thing to do with his golf game, Paul. And how do you know it will have no effect on his golf game? If this incident precipitates a messy, messy divorce and custody battle for Tiger, you think there's no chance that will have any effect on his game? Maybe not, but the possibility is there.
Take care,
PK

Because Joe Schmoe buys those products because Woods is associated with them. That's the whole point of an endorsement.Teal wrote:Then let Nike worry about it. If Woods isn't sponsored by Nike, then Schmoe may want to know why, and it's in Nike's best interest to communicate with its customers.
Plus if the revenue of Nike's golf division goes into the sh*tter because it dropped Woods, the shareholders of that public company have a right to know why the company dropped Woods. Some of those shareholders may be named Joe Schmoe.
That situation is exacerbated when dealing with a supernova like Woods. He is THE FACE of Nike's entire golf program. He is THE FACE of EA Sports' golf franchise. He is THE FACE for a number of companies for which he pitches products.
For example, when you see Roger Federer, Thierry Henry and Woods in a Gillette ad, do you ever notice Federer? Do you even know who Henry is? You sure as hell know who Tiger Woods is, and that Gillette campaign wouldn't exist without him. Sorry, but Federer and Henry aren't going to carry sponsorship water in the U.S. market.
It's a little more complicated than "leave the poor guy alone."
Take care,
PK

Personally, I don't really care, and I think celeb gossip is a scourge of humanity. But the reality is that Tiger makes $50+ million a year on endorsements based on his 'image.' When something happens that relates to his 'image', it matters. I also don't see how you can separate his sponsors/Nike from Joe Schmo--they are one in the same and only exist because of the other.Teal wrote:Then let Nike worry about it. I think you're general point Teal would be far more well taken if we were talking about a guy who shows up, plays golf, and goes home with no ads or fanfare.
As to the police interview stuff, I'm not sure that it's all that uncommon to delay. I can't speak from much personal experience, but several years ago a guy who was painting at my parents house stole my dad's rolex. Thanks to an incredible internet good samaritan we found it on ebay being sold by a local jewelry re-seller. We discovered all the details and reported it to the police, and it took the police months to even talk to the guy because he kept giving excuses to the police about why he couldn't come in. The last one I remember he said he couldn't come to the police station because he had to attend 'his mother's pollyanna party,' so apparently Joe Schmo can jerk around the police for low level offenses and inquiries, which is what this traffic accident appears to be.

Tiger pulled out of his Chevron tournament this weekend, claiming the injuries from the car accident are preventing him from playing.

Whether it's our 'right' to know more about this particular incident or not, it's the humans' curiosity in me that would like to know what happened to one of the best athletes known in sports today. A sport that I play and try to emulate and learn from one of the best players that ever hit the golf ball.
Curious because if I recall in his message posted in his website, he calls Elin's act a courageous act or something to that extent. Courageous? Hmmm... The sooner he comes out with the truth, the better. For his family and career. And PK, until the purple and blue disappears from Tigers' face, he'll continue to drop out of tournaments which it maybe next year.
