As soon as you get to level 4 everything starts to open up. It took me all of 4 random matches to get to level 4. Even when I was level 2 i was getting more kills then guys in the 30's and I by far am not the best player. The old eye sight is going so it is hard to pick up enemies sometimes.
Being able to play as a sniper and create my own class, even without all the perks makes me feel a lot better about it.

I played quite a bit online this weekend and I love it. Seems pretty noob friendly compared to most online shooters, as I was able to get a few kills every round from the start, even when playing with all high level players. Leveling up and earning new perks and attachments for your weapons is very addictive, so much so that I have pretty much ignored the campaign mode. Playing mercenary team deathmatch with randoms has been great too, since parties aren't allowed in that mode it seems to be a little easier to do well. And to everyone worried about not starting on equal ground, it takes less than an hour to get to level 4 and earn the red dot upgrade, which really seems to be all you need. The stopping power perk you start out with allows you to quickly kill anybody, and when pairing it with the steady aim perk you start with you don't even need to aim in close quarters.
As I expected, I am absolutely loving this online.
Basic gameplay is about the same as COD4, but there are more toys in the form of gun attachments and killstreaks.
Loving the new weapons and the insane amount of unlockables. Between the challenges, the titles, the emblems, and all the new gun attachments, there is always an achievement to be seeking.
Also, I'm really liking the SCAR, like Mac. It fits my play style perfectly, with the range to kill from a good distance, the stopping power to drop someone quickly, and a fast enough fire rate to hold it's own in close quarters. (For those wondering, it's unlocked at level 8 ).
Gotta stress again the need to get to level 4 to unlock create a class, because I don't really like the default weapons of the FAMAS assault rifle or the UMP smg. Took me less than 1.5 rounds for me to get to level 4 though

Yep, Naples, my feelings exactly. Loving this game online, just as I thought I would, as well. They've tweaked the gameplay very well, and added in new bonuses and balances (deathstreaks? Gotta love that-a bonus for those of us who suck!) that just make this thing butter to play. Hell, I was getting really ticked off at a group of nuts last night for overusing the riot shields to simply walk up to you and beat you to death, but there's a balance-their heads are always slightly exposed, flashbangs work really well on them, and...you can pick up their shields and put them on your back for some rear guard. Yep. Using shields in the 'alternate weapon' position provides protection from behind. Cool.
I can't wait to do another poker night. Rob jumped into a random I was playing last night, and I had a blast in that session. Did really well on a couple maps as sniper, ranked up a couple times, and earned the super cool missile strike as a 5 kill bonus. Of course, it's rare that I get 5 kills in a row without dying...

Yep...I am having a blast as well. We need to party up from within the game sometime and take on all the kiddies.
I just unlocked the ninja perk last night. It will be going on all my load outs and won't be coming off anytime soon.

Like anyone with a fully functioning frontal lobe, I don't play with a mic when playing randoms. Nevertheless, enough "conversation" bleeds through my TV speakers to remind me of the abyss that is XBL for a game like this.

Dead...on it!

When playing against all randoms, I just plug in my headset, turn the volume off, and then mute the microphone and set it on the couch next to me. That way you don't hear anyone speaking through the tv, yet you still get all the sounds of the game.
If you have some friends mixed in with randoms, you can set your privacy settings from the dashboard so that you only hear people on your friends list, and only friends can hear you.
There is no way I'm going to listen to any of the crap that is spouted nonstop on xbl ever again.

Oops, I should have read this more carefully before I posted. Sounds much easier that what I have been doing, I didn't even know this option existed.btmmayor wrote:Yeah, I always just end up turning down the voice volume to zero in the Xbox blade so I don't have to listen to that garbage.RobVarak wrote:Nevertheless, enough "conversation" bleeds through my TV speakers to remind me of the abyss that is XBL for a game like this.
OK, I followed your guys' advice and just left the headset off and played randoms. Early on, it was exactly as expected. Blasted at every corner.
One particular sequence was frustrating--some guy was in a C130 destroying guys on the ground. I'd spawn and get blown up within 2 seconds 4 or 5 times in a row. That really, really sucks.
Then a funny thing happened. Got level 2, 3, 4...5...8. Suddenly I could run with the SCAR and had a grenade launcher. Got to know the levels a tiny bit better and quit running around like a chicken with my head cut off.
My last game I had 18 kills and 4 deaths, which was pretty cool. Only game I was at the top of the scoreboard with a bunch of level 20-50's. The scoreboard thing didn't matter, but picking and choosing my spots to show myself (even if I have a bead on a guy, not firing wildly...waiting until he stops to assess his situation or slows down to open fire, etc) was very rewarding.
Couple of knife kills, started getting the drop on some guys. The game really opened up a bit, and when I'd get killed at least I'd understand why...either I didn't know the map well enough to know the "camp spots" or left my back exposed somewhere that I didn't know was open, etc.
I still think that it forces you to level up a bit before you can be somewhat competent, because once I got that SCAR everything changed. Those little 3-burst crap guns they give you at the start just flat out suck.

Naples and I slammed through the 'Alpha' stages of Special Ops last night. I'm tellin' ya, if you haven't done it already, get a buddy and do these-they're fun as hell, and a heckuva challenge. The one level in Rio de Jeneiro is intense and frantic. We had a great time!
Last night, I also got invited into a cluster-f*ck known as a RobVarak party.
It was frantic as well, most of the time. It was fun, in a run and gun sorta way, but Rob: I still say that it's only a frantic, frenetic game if you play it that way. And stop apologizing to me for having a differing point of view!

+I like to stay near the edges of a level so I only have one side to cover.
+Sprint across opening terrain, and slowly round 'busy' corners or corridors with gun ready.
+If you see someone looking away or moving away from you, DON'T fire until you know you can hit him multiple times and finish him off so he will no chance to return fire
+And the part that requires the most discipline--if you are in the open or stumble across someone who is a medium distance away and looking at you, DON'T try to shoot him. Sprint to the nearest cover instead. The odds that you can aim and kill him before he kills you are not good.

Spec Ops mode supports split-screen play.Slumberland wrote:Is Spec Ops doable in local split-screen play? Apologies if this has been asked already. Haven't picked this up yet. Just wanted Acivision to sweat it out a bit for putting that shocking and distasteful mission in there.
Also, I have an extra copy available in FOR SALE thread

That's a great post. Thanks for the tips.Naples39 wrote: That is exactly how I play.

It's because of sneaky a-holes like you that I like to play Domination. Makes you come out and fight!Naples39 wrote:That is exactly how I play.
