Aren't points scored one of the playoff tiebreakers?

Nah...I don't think there was more than one post about them in each of the last few I did. If they don't spark any discussion or trash talking, then it's really not worth it

Well, for what it's worth, I thought they were very well done and I really enjoyed reading them. Not sure how much time it took up but it really made the league feel more alive.

Also I hate to report what I deem is a total lack of sportsmanship. I turn the ball over inside two minutes down on my 25 or so and being down 21-10 and only two timeouts left I toss in the towel. Not only did my opponent call quick plays when it was obvious I wasn't going to call timeouts, he also ran outside when I was obviously in a goal line defense.

Now I've played these games for years and I know if you want to run the clock out, you run the play clock down and you run up the middle. This is not what he did even after I did not use a timeout on the previous running play. So he runs outside and scores with 1:10 to go. I guess he felt like he had to score one touchdown on his own since the other three were gifts.

I've seen great sportsmanship in every game I played but this one just rubs my ass the wrong way.
Sorry to hear that Badgun but that would have never happened in a game with mics. Hell, my last game against Rob the same exact situation occurred and I told him I wasn't going to take my timeouts so he kneeled on the ball, but I digress.
Scoop, you may be right, but if I didn't take a timeout on the previous play wouldn't that just scream "ok, it's over now kneel the damn ball"? Not to mention that he came back and snapped the ball again with about 18 seconds on the play clock and then ran outside.

I don't know, in a 21-10 game that seems to be completely over what is the best way for me to blow the game? Oh, I know...by doing something stupid and fumbling the ball. I guess that's why I should run the ball and run it outside no less...so I can get hit and turn the ball over.

Even if I had taken both of my timeouts he could have still effectively ran the clock out. Even if he doesn't kneel there is absolutely no reason to run outside and the play he ran looked like a dive play that he just pulled the stick to the left as soon as the ball was snapped. He knew what he was doing and he was trying to score. I had goal line defense called, he takes the guy outside and with no hesitation he scored.

Even if you break a tackle or something most people that have any decency at all would hit the x button on go down before the goal line.

Maybe I'm making a mountain out of a mole hill, but given the game situation and the place on the field there is absolutely no reason for him to be running the ball outside at all. The previous play he had ran up the middle for about 4 yards and I didn't really think anything of that. I didn't call a timeout so I thought he would get the message. Surely there's no explanation for calling a play and getting right back to the line. He didn't even run the play clock. I'm sorry, sometimes these things happen by accident...this was no accident.

At that point he had 60 total yards for the game and no offensive scores at all...I guess he had to do it to make himself feel better.
Not exactly sure what you're trying to do here but I am not that kinda player. Good game and good luck the rest of the way.

Even if it is, is it really worth it to run the score up on someone? I might would do it against the cpu, but I would never run it up against a real person...for any reason.

I liked them, too. Vader and I are gunning for lowest-ranked human teams :D Maybe an end-of-season power poll?

I have an idea for a little offseason activity -- any interest in a poll on best video highlight? I thought every team could submit one and then we could vote, kind of like a league ESPY.

Terry,

I also thought the Power Rankings were rather sweet. . .it was fun to show those off to folks when I tell them about the fun that we're collectively having here in this franchise. . .

Per your thoughts on trash talk, the funny thing is that the only thing I thought was missing from your work was the flame war message board on the bottom that you see at espn.com. . .not sure we can quite replicate that here though. . .

Thanks
-Todd

Well I like the power ranking as well. Not sure how Terry made them.

I'm hoping he is up to helping me with some playoff match up posts.

Hmm is that line about a lack of defensive fundamentals a shot at my coaching?

I'd say my position as 6th in points allowed would not show a lack of defensive fundamentals at all considering I am running a 3-4 which to me is completely broken in madden. I will concur with the tackling statement as my team is among the worst against the rush, but is 3rd against the pass.

While I have no stat to back this up I would say over 50% of the rushing yards gained against me are after first contact. This last loss had me take a good hard look at the tackle rating on my guys and they are abysmal. But when guys like Elvis are rated a 65 overall I guess there is not much you can do. A lot of my starters tackle ratings are in the 40's and 50's

I certainly have no idea how I can address this is one draft as the Denver Offense needs a lot of work as well. Orton throws the ball past 10 yards and it can go anywhere. In my Raider game he delivered a strike to Marshall deep into triple coverage and 4 plays later over threw a crossing pattern by 10 yards.

One thing is for sure we'll be gunning for the Raiders rushing attack next time. :)

Actually, no. It was simply what I would take from hearing:

"It's not just this game, but all season. Backs break tackles and get huge yardage", etc. etc.

In "reality" (not video game world) that I try to pretend these things are based on, that would be fundamental tackling issues like not wrapping up, losing outside contain, etc.

So if you were REALLY coaching the team and could coach your guys to actually tackle, then yes. But at your video game coaching skills? Not a bit.

My season has eerily mirrored the real life Jets... strong defensive start, trouble against the Dolphins, then Sanchez sh*itting the bed... what's next I wonder?

Well done, Terry, and nothing adds zest to a power rankings like a prison rape reference. :D

Only two chances left for the Texans to beat a human opponent. We face a tall order against Jared's Dolphins tonight, but a win against the top team would be a great building block for next season.

I'll go against the grain and say that I absolutely detest your power rankings Terry. Of course it has nothing to do with how you do them and has everything to do with the fact that I keep finding my team further and further down the list.

Trash talk?...Im not really at liberty to do so for obvious reason(I SUCK!)...but...but... if I was, Id say the only f***in power rankings that count are the ones at the end of the season . Like after the Rams win the Bowl. 8O :? :P 8)

Shame on me - missed the link and was expecting the image to appear in post.

Virtual Asante Samuel had this to say after reading the rankings...

"Everybody knows that sim loss to the Chargers meant nothing. And the Bears? Please, they aint looking forward to seeing us in the playoffs - I can assure you that. Bottom line, when this team is focused we win games - Period. "

On Thursday several Eagles players suggested to the media that they've privately stewed all year since the loss to Dallas. To a man that loss seemed to bother the Eagles more than any other game, as it was the one game Andy Reid admitted to being outcoached. Reid had this to say, "When you look at it, we feel we gave away games to the Bears and Redskins as we had 2-score leads in the second half. It was just lack of focus and that falls on me. The Cowboys game was different, they pretty much hammered us all day and that left a bad taste in our mouths. We hate Dallas and that fake "modesty" they bring up after every win. Believe me, that game means everything to us."

Reid's Eagles host the struggling Broncos this week. Many in the organization feel this could be a trap game as the Eagles seemed so focused on a Dallas rematch. "The Broncos are a good football team. We need to stay focused and balanced on offense." said Donovan McNabb. "What are they? 4th or 5th in the league in defense?" The Broncos field the 9th ranked defense in the league. Expect to see a heavy dose of Brian Westbrook as the Eagles try to slow the Denver pass rush.

Oakland, CA --

As the Raiders come down the final stretch toward a home playoff game and the first postseason appearance in seven years, the quarterback situation is still unsettled.

The Raiders in disarray and undecided on players? How unusual.

"We're going to give JaMarcus another crack at it this week", Coach Crouch was commented as saying after practice today. "We've got a good gameplan set up for Cleveland, and we feel that we could end up with some big plays that the big kid's arm strength would help out with".

When asked about the problem of wild throws down the middle of the field that were intercepted frequently, the answer was a bit more vague.

"He's just got to learn to pull it down and either run with it or throw it away in those situations", Crouch said. "We're working on it, but he's young and it's a work in progress. I will not, however, pull him out of the final two games under any circumstances. It's a trial by fire, if you will. We'll reassess the situation before the first playoff game".

Russell has a tendency to miss easy throws, and when he does, it's usually wildly off target. Throws toward the sideline have landed near the bench, and fades toward the pylon have been so uncatchable that Wilt Chamberlain probably couldn't keep both feet in bounds and snag it.

So there you have it. JaMarcus has a 2-game audition to start for the Raiders in the playoffs, and possibly to save his spot on the team in 2010.
