Gotcha...I had forgotten that little piece of information. Thanks.dbdynsty25 wrote:You are missing the point. Yes, it was included in OS 3.0, but it's not activated on At&t. It's gonna be a few more months allegedly.DivotMaker wrote:IIRC, this was included in the 3.0 OS update....Danimal wrote:Oh an I guess no one knows about MMS then right?
They are but some people are disappointed they don't offer the rumored Blu-Ray drive. I don't care about watching Blu-Ray movies (although you can plug in a Blu-Ray or any HDMI source into the highest-end model) but with digital cameras recording HD video, it would be cool to make Blu-Ray discs with high-def video.10spro wrote:The new imacs look sweet.
USB 3.0 just got approved a couple of months ago. In the next year, hopefully USB 3.0 devices become more common.

I asked myself that question many times wrt the imac and mac mini. And both products make sense but the imac make more sense than the mini. I see the imac as more of a laptop on steroids. It's all in one enclosure with aggressive specs makes more sense than the mini.dbdynsty25 wrote:I still fail to see the point of the iMac line. Sure, it's all built into one unit, but you can get a Mac Mini and hook it up to any 24" display and save yourself a few hundred dollars. I guess I just miss the point of it as a product line.
The mini is dumb down and you'll need an extra keyboard and mouse along with a monitor. None of it is a deal breaker but the mouse and keyboard takes up more space if you want to compliment a windows based PC. If I had to choose between the two the imac comes out to be the better overall deal. Shoot you can get a 21.5" imac with 4GB of memory, a nice video card, 1TB HDD with a mouse and keyboard for $1,499. Not bad if you were first looking at a laptop then researched the imac.
When I look at all in one PC's, I always compare them to an imac because they were the ones that became successful with the all in one approach. The new imacs do look sweet btw.
The Mini basically has a MacBook logic board and is using 2.5-inch drives.
Some like it as a SFF computer, relatively lower-priced. And some HTPC guys fiddle with it to run Boxee or some PC guys get it just to play around with OS X.
iMac finally puts desktop processors (they had been using mobile processors to keep the heat down) with the i5 and i7 quad-cores in the 27-inch.
It seems hard to find monitors bigger than 23 or 24 inches these days, so that could be a nice differentiation.
The top of the line 27-inch iMac can be hooked up to other computers apparently through an adapter now. Expensive monitor but it comes with a computer which should be decent for a couple of years.

At least they are putting the i5 and i7-860 in the iMacs now. It's just too bad you still can't get a badass video card in them. Otherwise it might make sense. Though, I just built my entire PC based system with the i7-860, 8gb of ram, an HD 5850 for less than a grand. I'm pretty sure it's better than an iMac, plus it leaves me 1,400 bucks to buy a monitor and I'm still under the price of the top end iMac (2,400).
Yeah, but you're running Windows.dbdynsty25 wrote:At least they are putting the i5 and i7-860 in the iMacs now. It's just too bad you still can't get a badass video card in them. If I need to run Snow Leopard, I've got a MacBook Pro for that...so it ain't like I'm biased either way. I like the OS...but if I want to play a game, my PC will beat the sh*t out of any Mac they make for 1/2 to 2/3s the cost. That's just a fact of life that can't be argued.Spooky wrote:Yeah, but you're running Windows.dbdynsty25 wrote:At least they are putting the i5 and i7-860 in the iMacs now. And Time Capsule = System Restore.JRod wrote:How many Mac ideas did Windows steal this time around? They aren't even coming up with their own ideas anymore.
Pin = Mac application bar (whatever it's called)

Okay they added 64 bit.
Basically you are getting Mac OSX for Windows.
Microsoft has been ripping off Apple for 20+ years but luckily things have slowly - albeit very slowly - started turning around. It is really only the most bitter of PC users that can't appreciate how much of an OS X ripoff Windows 7 is. Not to start a Mac vs. PC flame war or anything but this is the "Mac Thread" after allJRod wrote:How many Mac ideas did Windows steal this time around? Oh and the Pin = Dock.
Really? Apple took what was already being used in mainstream, personal computing and claimed it as their own idea? No they didn't.Rodster wrote:And Apple took ideas from AT&T way back and developed their GUI driven OS. Blah, blah, blah.![]()
They took an idea from industry and then brought it to the masses in 1983. Very different from Windows 7 being a hodge podge of clever (and original) OS X functions and programs.

Windoze is great for games and programs that develops don't want to port over to Mac OS X. That is all I use it for.Rodster wrote:It's funny how many mac users run dual boot on their systems. As PK says if Mac OS was all that there would be no need for Windoze.
