Why not? Racing is racing. What about offroad or rally racing invites people to act like tools? I don't get it.
Perhaps the lack of etiquette comes more from the likely buyers, chiefly those Codemasters appear to have been targetting with their branding and marketing for it, rather than the discipline? Thinking out loud and no more, and it's probably a load of nonsense. Whatever it is, if you can't avoid a wreck online, I'm not going to even try.

I'm up for a poker night, though, absolutely.

Definitely, positively, without a doubt have FF. Wheel jerks around on jumps, on bumps, slides, etc.

I guess it's my ice cream truck horn that keeps me from taking this game to seriously. It’s fun when I finish in 1st or last place online. Maybe I have just decided that racing randoms online is never going to get any better so I might as well accept it for what it is and move on. Who else am I going to race on a dialy basis?

Nice review, Terry, you really nailed the strengths and (few) weaknesses of the game.

I love this game the more I play it. It really does have a visceral feel to it. Yesterday I was taking a corner a little too hard, and I caught myself leaning to one side on the couch like I was in an actual car!

I also tend to get tired watching replays of most racing games unless something exceptional happened, but I watch probably 80% of my races when I'm done in Dirt 2.

Thanks...that's one of the things that I absolutely love about it.

Especially in the cockpit cam, when you're pitching it around a corner and really letting it all hang out, you're always tense. I had a TON of fun with this one.

Think I'm getting Forza 3 tomorrow, so that'll be interesting to see...

That Colin McRae tribute after you beat the challenge is just awesome.

Who is still playing this? We should get a group together and do some races! XBL for this game is pretty empty and/or demolition derby fests. I'd love to try and get some genuine races going with the always dependable DSP crew:) I figure once Forza 3 hits the scene this game will be drift of into the abyss that is my ever expanding game collection....

I am and still love it. I'm at level 19 in the Dirt Tour and amazed at how much more is left to do. I got the Terminated achievement in Utah the other night, and it was just thrilling to run straight into a rock at 145 mph.

If we get a poker night going, I'd be up for it.

I haven't played it much recently, but have held onto my gamefly copy.

I think I've said previously that I think this game would be great for a poker night, but I am reluctant to call them since sometimes I end up flaking out on poker nights.

Apparently if Zeppo's not calling poker nights, no one is.

I still play DiRT 2 as well as Race Pro. I may play both games less once Forza 3 is out, but I doubt that I will completely stop playing them.

I'd be up for a Dirt 2 poker night. I have a class on Tuesday nights but I'd try to make it any other night.

Guys I still have it and would love to get some private online sessions going, but I just don't know when. Sunday and Monday nights I prefer to watch the NFL games, at least until the scores are out of reach but sometimes even after that. Wednesdays I like to keep for the OTP sessions in either NHL or the upcoming FIFA. Thursdays tend to be later nights at work for me, but sometimes we do get done at a reasonable hour. But usually Thursdays and Fridays are when we get our night shooting done.

I just don't know. Maybe a Saturday night some time? This weekend I will be heading down to see the Skins so I won't be around Saturday. I was going to skip it, but an old high school friend and his wife are coming down from Ithaca for this game, and hey, it might be the last home game we have a realistic chance of winning.

I guess the way I look at it, this game fills a unique niche, so I have no reason to get rid of it for a long, long time. We might not play it together often or on a regular basis, but since it's unique, it should be just as fun and fresh months from now as it was when it first dropped. It's not like a shooter where the next best thing trumps the last best thing.

Totally. It fills a very unique niche that shouldn't go away once Forza 3 drops. That being said I think we should shoot for a poker night sometime before Forza hits the scene. I was playing in some heated Rallycross races last night. Man those are FUN! I also really like the ghost cars on the Rally Race modes - very cool to see where you are with the pack. Much better than the staggered starts IMO but of course not very realistic :)

What about tonight? Anybody want to try and meet up for a 7pm PST race? I'll probably be able to run for an hour or so and then will have to bail out.

Only IF you have a top spec PC rig, Squidly. The specs are brutal as it's one of the few games to recommend an i7 CPU and a DX11 card along with Windows 7.

Oh and to everyone else. Target has begun to clearance out Dirt 2 for the PS3 ($29.99). :)

Wow...if any of you have the rig to run it, the PC version of Dirt 2 is RIDICULOUS. Controls just as good as the console version, just looks significantly better with the DirectX 11 code. I cannot believe how much cleaner it looks compared to the console version. I got it for free when I bought my ATI 5850...so that makes it even better!

I can get it for free as well without buying that card, LOL. But I prefer to play these types of racing games on the console.
