So they put their tackle alley tech demo as an iPhone app?wco81 wrote:Natural Motion has put out a GameBreaker game on the iPhone.
It's reportedly not a full football game, you control the ball carrier and try to evade tackles.
LMAO

I think you're in for a huge letdown in that case. At best I'm happy when I can actually slog through a match. If you're familiar with the RealSoccer series I think the control here is only marginally better.pigpen81 wrote:Fifa 10 is out for tonight.
I might pay the $10 as I am not buying the console versions or Pro Evo this year.
Seems to be the same huge selection of sides, but unfortunately like the bad FIFA of old there seems to be absolutely no difference between players and sides on the pitch (Chelsea is as much of a challenge as Swansea).
Just picked up an iTouch for my birthday. Bought the Dungeon game, and yeah...that's a fun Diablo clone. Also purchased Real Racing, and man! That's one incredible little racing game.
I've DL'ed a s*** load of game demos in the last couple of days-some good, some eh, but I never knew this little iPod could do so much. I'm pleased!

Blub, have you played X2? I prefer it over Real Soccer by a wide margin. I'm wondering how FIFA compares to X2.Blublub wrote:I think you're in for a huge letdown in that case. Leebo, I think X2 is still my favorite as it comes closest to something I can actually make it through a whole match without wanting to chuck the whole phone. I'm looking forward to the 2010 X2 release and that likely will be the only one remaining on my phone.Leebo33 wrote:Blub, have you played X2? I prefer it over Real Soccer by a wide margin. Still, though, it feels a little silly to play any of these compared to the now-very-solid PES on the PSP, or even PSP FIFA.
Some games that I've previewed/ purchased lately that I think are worth the dough:
-Let's Golf
-AC 130 (think that one mission from Modern Warfare)
-2XL SX (insane graphics for an iTouch game) but 10 bucks might be a little extreme
-Wild West Guns
the only big issue is battery life, which frankly sucks while playing games. What's the best alternative to extending the battery life? Is there one?

Photoshop Mobile is up and it's free. Haven't had a chance to mess around with it much but I did add a nice soft black-and-white filter to a picture of my daughter and was impressed. I'm sure it's pretty bare bones but for a photoshop nut like me it's nice to have a portable version even if it's limited.
I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.

The Backbreaker game is just tackle alley, as you've noted, but it's worth the 99 cents, IMHO. The tackles in the game aren't that much worse than some of the ones I've seen in PS3 Madden. Hopefully, they'll get around to releasing the full game someday on next gen consoles.Danimal wrote:So they put their tackle alley tech demo as an iPhone app?wco81 wrote:Natural Motion has put out a GameBreaker game on the iPhone.

Not really a game app, but I picked up LogMein Ignition when it was on sale for $19.99 (and I was using a $50 gift card that I paid $40 for at Best Buy a couple weeks back so knock another 20% off). We have a cheap Windows PC that we own mainly for the kids to bang on and I've been using LogMeIn to play OOTP X and Second and Ten Football remotely on my iPhone. The speed is great wirelessly and more than acceptable on 3G. You would think that it would be too small for the phone screen but you can zoom in close and there is an option to keep the mouse stationary and move the screen instead which makes it pretty easy to move around. It fatigues my thumb slightly but with the proper zoom it's no worse than any other app on the eyes. It's pretty damn cool to be able to play text-based PC games on my phone plus be able to use the app to email a file, use Word/Excel on my iPhone, or kickoff a download remotely.
Picked up a couple of game apps over the weekend. Rally Master 3D is a pretty amazing looking rally racer, and it's quite good. That is, if you don't use the accelerometer to steer. I felt like I was having a seizure trying to steer and countersteer with the thing!
Also picked up Asphalt 5, and it's awesome. Pure arcade racing, with shortcuts, cops, and pretty blazing speeds.
MGS Touch is another one that, while not terribly deep, is pick up and play accessible, and fun, at that.
And for anyone like me who really enjoyed that AC 130 gunship level in CoD 4, there's AC-130. It's the level from CoD, pretty much, and it's fun as well.

Sandstorm is cool, but I just cannot play first person shooters on this thing-can't get the movement down. And they've integrated the GTI stuff into the full version of Real Racing recently as well-the cockpit views are amazing for a little machine like this.10spro wrote:I picked up the free version of Real racing GTI 2010, no acceleration just steering from the cockpit view is pretty cool.
Also 'Sandstorm' was finally on sale and grabbed it for $5, excellent shooter.
Waiting for 'Doom' to come down in price.

Star Wars: Trench Run is in the app store, and it's quite fun. It's the dogfight and the 'trench run' from Episode IV, and it's a blast to play.
Another one that is pretty graphically stunning, for what it is, is called "Jet Car Stunts". Think Trials HD with a rocket car, but 3D and in the sky; it's equal parts puzzle game and stunt game. Really, really good stuff.
Also, Ghosts n' Goblins is available. It's a new iteration, not the old classic, and it's not bad at all.
