DSP Monday Night TOCA

Post by Zeppo »

Ok gents;

Tonight we officially switch our Monday Night driving from PGR2 to ToCA RD2. Unfortunately, I can only host 6 at most (seems about average). I know PK can handle 7, and thanks to the high-quality Canadian telecommunications infrastructure, JamesE can handle the full 12! (Terry or Kruza, send JamesE your Xbox so he can host with all the cars! ).

So, who's in? (and who's going to host?)

Usual time, 10:30pm EDT

I am likely to start early if anyone else is interested, so look for me online.

Or perhaps some SC:PT at 9:30, to shake the rust off, for those who can make it (Mix and/or Fishguy? Spooky? Anyone?).

I'm very questionable.

Our 9-month-old kitten was hit by a car right in front of our house and killed last night. Found her this morning when my wife went out to get the paper. Thankfully, I buried her before either of the kids knew what happened.

Those of you with pets -- and pets and kids -- will understand why everyone around here is pretty blue today.

Just not sure if I'm up for frivolity tonight. Tomorrow night, yeah.

Thanks,
PK

PK, I'm so sorry about the kitten. I was never a cat person until I moved in with my girlfriend, who already had one cat and then let another little guy follow her home one day last year. I've become unbelievably attached... I feel for ya.

As for TOCA and Splinter, I'm in.

Wow, PK, that's a nightmare. I feel for your kids; that is devastating for little ones. But for what it's worth, it's so important to learn the reality of death at a young age, to be made aware of it's existence (if you will) as a course of life, so better the pets than the grandparents, or worse.

Anyway, it definitely sucks. My older sis's cat got hit after some 13 years of living with her. She was devastated for like a week (she was very attactched), and then got 2 new kittens. They can't replace that other nasty beast (ooh it was a mean cat), but it helped her immeasurably, getting the new ones.

I'm in for TOCA tonight. If we have too many people, maybe we need to start two divisions based on driver ratings or something.

PS - Sorry to hear about your family's loss PK. That's really sad. I dealt with the same thing at an early age and its no fun and I guess never really gets any easier. Will be thinking about you guys. Take care.

I have unlocked up to the GT Lites now.

I might be online tonight, not sure yet. If so, and the demand is high, I can host.

Fellas:

Yeah, thanks. My daughter took it surprisingly well. I don't think it has sunk in for her yet. Plus she's only 5, so maybe she doesn't understand everything. My son is only 3, so he's still in that blissful stage of kid oblivion.

Thankfully we have another cat, an 8-year-old male named Johnny. He's dumber than a box of rocks but has a ton of street smarts. Beauty and the beast -- friendliest cat in the world but is a savage hunter. Eats his prey whole.

One silver lining: We constantly harp on our kids and watch them like radar to ensure they stay away from the road. Now, sadly they have first-hand evidence of what can happen to things that stray in the road. I think the lesson has been painfully learned.

Take care,
PK

I'll be in for both SC and TOCA.

Sorry about the accident, PK. You and I have had our cats vs dogs debates in the past, but a pet is still a pet. I feel bad for the kids.

Driver didn't stop, huh? That stinks too.

Web:

No doubt. I don't care for dogs, but I would feel awful for anyone whose dog died. A pet is a pet, whether someone outside of that family cares for that kind of pet or not. All pet owners are brethren in that way.

The driver didn't stop. But I'm almost certain the accident happened some time between 5 and 6:30 a.m. I fell asleep in my chair in the basement, waking up at 4:50 a.m. and realizing Lucy still wasn't in.

I called for her at the front door and looked at the road, suspicious of the worst. I saw nothing, so I went to bed. Ninety minutes later, my wife found her at the side of the road.

We tried to train her to stay away from the road, but we insist that our cats are outdoor cats. We have a 1-acre yard with acres and acres of woods and cornfields behind us, so keeping a cat indoors here would be like keeping a kid confined to the parking lot at the gates of the Magic Kingdom.

She was really good about avoiding the road; that's why this whole thing mystifies us. But she only had been staying out at night for about the last week or so, so I'm thinking she was confused by the darkness and misjudged the road, obviously.

But what's the real kicker is that our road gets hardly any traffic at night. We're in the sticks. The chances are pretty slim of getting hit between midnight and 6 a.m., but sadly little Lucy's Lotto ball came up.

She was a little thing, so late at night a tired or inattentive driver might not have even known he/she hit an animal. I don't blame the driver, considering the time of day the accident probably happened.

Plus it's not going to bring her back, so ... sigh. :(

Take care,
PK

Same thing with me. My wife (then girlfriend) bought a cat when we were dating and I have become attached to the little fella.

Sorry to hear that PK. I know if something were to happen to our cat I'd be a little more than sad. It took one time of ours getting out of the house and lost for a while for us to realize how much we're attached to him. Again, sorry about your loss.

hehe Dan, we can bring up the rear together.

I'll probably be on around 11 Eastern unless CSI Miami is a rerun, then I'll be there earlier.

My wife also begged for a cat when we got married last July, so I adopted on from the shelter. I be damned if I don't love this damn cat like it was my son. I think I officially lost my balls the day we brought him home.

pk, I know exactly what you mean. The same thing happened to our cat that we had for 5 years. My kids were so attached to it.

I still hate myself for telling them that he ran off.

Amen brother...my girl and I got a dog together and then we moved in together and now we got another dog. My balls have been removed entirely now. I know fletcher is very very disappointed in me right about now.

Bad:

Well, you did what you thought was right. Don't feel bad.

We waited to tell my daughter until after she went home to kindergarten, which was awkward at hell over breakfast because she kept asking my wife what I was doing at the edge of the woods with a shovel. She also kept asking where Lucy was, which splintered my heart every time I heard it.

We told my daughter right when she got home. She took it remarkably well and already has visited the grave twice today, putting daffodils she picked from the adjacent field on the fresh dirt. Cute stuff like that is one of the countless rewards of parenthood ...

Out,
PK

Now you guys know how your pets feel when they get snipped.

I can't say I lost my balls getting a dog. Best thing I've ever done. And I never bought into all the mush about how pets mirror your life. Well f*** I was wrong. This damn dog is exactly like me.

Plus I didn't beleive all that other mush about dog's being a man's best friend. Again, I was wrong. I swear my dog is almost human sometimes.
