While last nights game was exciting, I was tired of hearing from the "experts" about it being well played.
It wasn't.
Raburn letting that ball go by him for a triple was brutal.
Polanco should have done everything possible to keep that ball going through the middle.
Casilla's tag attempt was high schoolish at best.
It was not a well played game.
SUPER EXCITING though.

Blub, that's awesome that you got to go tto the game. What's the sentiment there regarding the new stadium?
Polanco looked pretty extended on that hit up the middle. Maybe he should have dived, but that carpet seemed to play an honest trick on him with the way the ball just wouldn't slow down.
Outside chance I get to go to one of these upcoming Yanks games. I will be pulling for the Twins.
Carlos Gomez figuring into a playoff run for the Twins before Santana does for the Mets. Who would have thought.

I'm not Blub, but I definitely have a local opinion on this. I think that most fans (say about 85% or higher) are really excited to get baseball out of the dome. As great as it is for a home-field advantage, it really is an awful place to watch baseball.Slumberland wrote:What's the sentiment there regarding the new stadium?
There is, however, a vocal minority that is going to b*tch and moan about playing games in colder weather in April and September/October. But they're generally old curmudgeons, so who cares what they think?
The sing-along songs'll be our scriptures.
Yeah, well-played it was not, which is probably what made it so much fun.
Slumber, I don't think anyone is going to shed too many tears over the Twinkiedome other than all the memories there and the ridiculous noise it can generate. It will be great to have outdoor baseball again, even if it does mean the post season could see some very interesting weather. Models of the new stadium look amazing (pine trees in the outfield, etc.) For better or worse, I doubt we'll ever see glad bags for fences again, anywhere

I’m going to miss watching those homerun balls to right trickle down that folded down bank of football seats just like the Kerplinko game on the Price Is Right.
My prediction for tonight: CC does that thing where he tries too hard to be too fine, puts too much pressure on himself, his pitch count will be up around 120 by the fourth, he’ll be lucky to make it out of the fifth, and he’ll wind up with the loss or a ND.

Interesting discussion on the radio this morning. Considering all of the facts, 0-7 vs. the Yanks this year, starting a pitcher who had a 4.5+ ERA in the minors this year tonight, arriving in NY at 3:00am and having to face CC, payroll difference, and up against a team loaded with future HOF'ers versus them only having at most 3 (Morneau, Mauer, Nathan), should the Twins beat the Yankees, would it be the greatest upset in PRO sports ever? No college and no Miracle on Ice discussion, pro team versus pro team?
They brought up the Jets vs. Colts SB, Dodgers over A's in '88, Pirates over the Yanks in '60, and some others.
I do think it would be greater than any superbowl upset (even though my Patriots beating the Rams with my fanny in the seat in the Superdome was the greatest thing i've ever seen) based on it being a series over one game. As far as the two WS they mentioned, i would put it over the '88 series simply because the Twins don't have a Hershiser or a bullpen (outside of Nathan) anywhere close to what the Dodgers had...even though the A's were loaded. Tough call on the '60 Bucs though. Talk about overmatched and pulling off a miracle.
Anyway, thought it might be fun discussion.

Didn't anyone mention just two years ago, when the Tribe was 0-7 vs. the Yankees in the regular season, plus were 26th in payroll, and knocked them out of the playoffs, thanks to the help of some pesky midges, of course?RallyMonkey wrote:Interesting discussion on the radio this morning. off topic: in this life it is easy to complain of different elements. On a positive note the MLB Channel is complete gold. The hot stove coverage, the programming, the personel etc. While viewing the 'hot stove' show for last night they discussed the latest news and then devoted time to look back on Vin Sculley and then completed the show by discussing the greatest baseball mustaches of all-time. Every panel member of their team is likeable and knowledgable (take note ESPN)
harold reynolds had the vote right. He voted for rollie fingers : )

QFT No doubt.dbdynsty25 wrote:Absolutely Vin...I love both the MLB and NFL networks. The NBA one is a disaster but that's a different discussion entirely. I still think the NFL is the gold standard with Rich Eisen anchoring the lineup...but MLB isn't far behind with their crews.

Raines is close, but not so sure. The Hawk should be in,but I see a another Jim Rice wait for him. Lee Smith's numbers for a reliever should have had him in years ago.vinny-b wrote:the HOF is near. My vote:
Andre Dawson
Lee Smith
Tim Raines
all have the numbers. And all completely dominated at their respective positions, in their era.
if Andre Dawson doesn't get into the HOF this year, Cooperstown should be burned to the ground.
Welcome back Jack Dog..nice avatar of Dom with the hotties..chip off the old block

R. Halladay is finally traded after all the talk last year before trade deadline. Obviously C. Lee was not going to re-sign with Philly so according to CSNPhilly.com, it's a 3 way trade where Lee goes to Seattle, and M. Taylor and other prospects to TOR. There's no confirmation as to who else is involved in the deal at this point, but it better be more than Taylor and a couple of other prospects to the Jays or rookie GM Anthopoulus may have been taken for a ride. I hope D. Brown is in there too.
Doc, you've been a class act for the Jays, Philly, you're getting one of the most dominant pitchers in the game today.

As a Braves fan, I'm happy to see Lee leaving and Halliday coming in. The Braves always struggle against lefties with their primarily left hand hitting lineup...so swapping a lefty ace for a righty is fine by me.
Now the Braves just have to get rid of Lowe's contract and pick up a bat and we're all good.

As a Cards' fan, even though we're not in the same division, I'm happy for the same reason...lefties have been killing the Cards' lineup for years. One less ace lefthander for them to face is good news to my ears.dbdynsty25 wrote:As a Braves fan, I'm happy to see Lee leaving and Halliday coming in. Hopefully we can get this Holiday signing wrapped up this week and pretty much call it a post-season.
The Halladay deal is breaking as such: Three prospects from Philly: Taylor, D'Arnaud and pitcher K. Drabek. Then Jays flip Taylor to OAK for infielder B. Wallace. Don't know much about the Philly prospects but I don't think they're ready for the Majors next season. At least rookie GM Antropoulus should have added a guy that could start next year.
In the meantime the Doc is said to be signing an extension with his new team, worth 20 million per.

He fell 2% short so he should get in next year easily, but still, a complete joke.

+ getting sued and settling lawsuit alleging deliberately giving someone HIV
