No big deal...I can't stand the Hardcore mode.10spro wrote:What I liked in this demo is that player differentiation is more noticeable this year, not just in the passing department but also when a lesser skilled player turns, his puck handling, agility, and speed, as it should be. My only gripe as I mentioned earlier is that the CPU passes are still too accurate for my taste, and this is on AS hardcore mode.
Zlax45, sorry I couldn't answer more of your questions last night, as I was trying to hold on to my lead in Madden.
NHL 2010 demo is available

My xbox live name is "The Zlax45"
It is a little troubling, but I'm on a wait-and-see policy for that. We should know within a few weeks whether or not this royally screws up the competitive balance in the EASHL.Zlax45 wrote:EASHL NOT looking good after this article

That's funny, I read that and think "That's cool as hell." I don't see how this is a bad thing. This will add a ton of depth to the type of player you want to have rather than just have the generic offensive defensman or sniper. Now you can start with those generic descriptions and tailor your character as you see fit to create differences just like you would see in the real NHL. Before it was almost on par with skinny guy, medium guy, and big guy from Ice Hockey on the NES. Now it's almost like a character in a RPG. XXXIV and me can both pick Power Forwards but now instead of having the exact same skillset he can have better stick handling skills while I have more accurate shots. I guess we'll see but my initial thoughts on this is that it's a very good thing.
I am a patient boy.
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait.
My time is water down a drain.

The issue isn't being able to customize your characters to a greater degree, but the rate at which the unlocks come will cause a minority of players to dominate online games because they will unlock more skill boosts vastly quicker than everyone else.
I might be able to build my character to the exact style I like, but his 'overall' rating will be 3rd line quality for a long time, while within 2 weeks we're sure to run into all kinds of players with ridiculously jacked up characters (far higher than the ceiling imposed on player skill in NHL 09).

The engine, puck physics is pretty much the same, there's more battle along the boards, it's a more north-south type of game, while on hardcore I just enjoy the little battles in the neutral zone, passing is more challenging, etc.sportdan30 wrote:Hoping to finally play the PS3 demo tonight. I guess what irks people in general on 'Hardcore' is that the CPU passing is too accurate (sliders should correct that) while your controlled player either gets knocked down easily or coughs up a pass frequently. But that's just fine for me, I don't want to release the puck if I don't have help coming, that's when you get into those board battles which happens all the time in real life.
The fighting is also different, which I like.
On AS, the game feels more organic to me.. pucks can be knocked all over the place and goals finally feel much better.. add board play and I'm hooked yet again.sportdan30 wrote:Hoping to finally play the PS3 demo tonight. IF the CPU team passing can be adjusted to be less accurate, the fun factor from playing this game could be very high. The laser guided CPU passing has been a problem in most video hockey games though since the beginning.
Before the hockey games can take the next big step up, the puck and stick physics must be seperate. I do not think the hardware has advanced enough yet though for this to be realized.

Unless someone else really wants to do it, chances are I'll set it up again, though I'd likely enlist a couple of others for co-administration.Zlax45 wrote:So who is running the NHL 10 team this year? Should be a fun year as we enter Year 2...Did we ever find a goalie last year?
I'll probably start a dedicated thread shortly.
As for goalie, Mac was by far our best though others would chip in the odd game.
