Having a problem with the forums

Post by FloridaGators »

I guess I'll post it here to see if anybody else is having the same problem. I am using Netscape Navigator as my Internet right now instead of my broken Internet Explorer. Anyway, whenever I click on a thread the google ad on the left shifts over and takes the whole part of the screen causing me to not see the first post in every thread. Anybody having this kind of trouble/any suggestions?

I'm seeing the same problem with Firefox. It's frequent, but not 100%.

My guess is that it's some badly formatted HTML in the rotating ads. We've seen this at OS, as well - certain ads will mess things up (like our virus this past weekend, or ads hosing our css). Netscape/Firefox are more strict in their implementation of the HTML standard, so if a table is being closed wrong, IE might correct it, where Mozilla would not.

Sometimes, I can just go back to the index, and try the link again, and it will format correctly. That's about the only fix I've found.

I've had the same problem with Firefox for a while too. What I do to read that first post is hit 'post reply' then you can see all the posts in the topic review. A bit of a pain, but gets the job done.

For what it's worth:

I see it on the front page as well. And now that I'm tracking when it happens and doesnt ... it's coming from the "Ad lovin" frame. If there's an ad in there, it displays fine. But, at times, that cell is not closed. It stretches across the full witdth of the page, and "eats" the first post.

I have the same issue if I use Navigator. Now I only use IE to access this site. Weird.

Jared

I have a problem viewing the forums when I'm at work - when I try to go to the forums, all I get is a blank grey box in the middle of the screen, although I can still access the reviews etc.

Bah - now I've no excuse not to actually do some work.

For everyone that's having problems, what's the exact browser that you're using? Let me know, so I can specifically test those browsers.

Jared

It's IE5.

Works OK at home, so I guess it may be something that our IT dept has managed to do...probably by accident, judging by their usual skill levels.

jared -

I'm experiencing the problem with FireFox 0.8.

Here's a link to a screen capture of what I'm seeing. You'll see the "Ad Lovin" tag is ..... where it shouldn't be.
