The Iceman at speed on the Rally Finland superspecial. Just think how well he'd have done if he'd set off at the same time as the other bloke:

The one thing that puzzles me so much about Kimi is how he's performed relative to Massa after smoking Heidfeld, Coulthard, and Montoya in the past.
There's a thought in the back of my mind that Schumacher's being trying to undermine Kimi with mind games ever since he showed up at Ferrari. Even though I don't think it makes any sense, I just can't get that feeling out of my mind.

Yep. Too bad Eddie Carpenter didn't get the win. He's a super guy and a VERY underrated oval racer. I was scanning my brain after the race, and I think Ed would have been only the third American short-tracker to win in the IRL if he took the checkered last night, behind Tony Stewart and Billy Boat.WPatrick wrote:Awesome IRL race at Kentucky tonight. I regularly record and watch IRL, F1, Nascar, Rolex, and ALMS, that was the best side by side to the finish line racing I've seen this year.
The aero changes and push-to-pass were a big success. That was old-school IRL racing, especially over the last 60 laps.
Take care,
PK

I concur about the IndyCar race last night. That was some great racing, and it was good to see both drivers up front race hard, yet fair with each other. I thought Ed had it in the bag with a few laps to go and the announcer said he still could use push to pass while his opponent was out of that option. Ryan is a great driver and deserving of the win. Easily the best IndyCar race of the season IMO. It looks like the changes will be for the better. Last night is the way things should be -- tight racing, close finish, yellows not constantly marring the race , clean driving, and overall good show. It sounded like the drivers had a good time out there as well.
Really, really happy to see how well Massa is doing:

Hearing he is okay and seeing him in an interview are two different things.

Cool! Thanks for the link. Hell, Ricky Hatton looks worse after most of his fights than Massa does now. Massa also sounds great. I'm sure the incredible physical fitness of F1 drivers also has aided Massa's recovery.EZSnappin wrote:Really, really happy to see how well Massa is doing:

Very, very heartening.

You mean kind of like Button? Over the weekend he did the Olympic distance in the London tri and finished 2nd in his age group.pk500 wrote:

Did the 40k bike in 1:02:55. I imagine there was a fair amount of drafting but still a good time (I'm strictly a rider and my best is 56:50, but I didn't have wind tunnel access like Button did!). Despite being in the tunnel, looks like his position kind of sucked.

But you know he's got some serious aerobic talent with his 10k time - 35:42.

Ha, mentions of it are fine. Mentions of it in conjunction with a critique of Kimi's work ethic, though...Rodster wrote:Wait till Adam finds out someone else brought up the Kimi/ice cream incident.
However disappointed you think I should be about not seeing Michael again, I'm a tiny bit more disappointed than that. It's nice to see Badoer being rewarded for the years of service he's put in, but if Ferrari believed for one second that Luca was all that, they wouldn't have given Salo the drive in '99...
I notice that they're already making noises to the effect that this is a one-race only deal for now, and that future drives are dependent upon how Valencia goes. They're hardly brimming with confidence.

I'm greatly disappointed. I was really looking forward to seeing Schumacher out there again. He was so often the only guy who could make it interesting by threatening the dominant team. Much like the way Alonso produced his wins last year (ignoring his desperate drives earlier on in the season). The only problem was when Ferrari became the dominant team.

"Hey, remember when we were all like, that loose wheel's not cool, man, the French dudes need to sit this one out, and they were all like NO WAY! and then we were like, nah, just kidding? That was so sweet..."
I've spent some time and about 1600 words on this at the usual place, going over the Renault banning episode from the beginning, so please forgive me for not having the strength to do more original thinking and copy/pasting the conclusion:
It’d be nice to think that today’s decision represents a win for common sense, the realisation that the actions you take in the middle of a traumatic period aren’t always the ones you’d have taken with a clearer head. It’d be nice to think that today’s decision was exactly the one that would have been made three weeks ago had the stewards present had the luxury of those clear heads. It’d be very easy, though, to conclude that were the European Grand Prix being held at Brands Hatch, Renault would still be banned from it.

I knew you'd understand, mate.
I was thinking on it last night. There's something not quite right if I feel it necessary to spend 1200 words explaining why Renault should never have been excluded in the first place and then knock that to bits with one small paragraph about the gate receipts...
Then again, this is the same FIA whose president feels it necessary to tell the member clubs who they should be voting for as his successor, so I suppose it's all in keeping.

YouTube founder Chad Hurley thinks the new USF1 team he’s bankrolling can do things differently and “break the mold” in F1:

It’s very obvious that Hurley never has met Bernie Ecclestone or spent any time in an F1 team principals’ meeting!
Good luck, billionaire kid. You'll need it.
Take care,

Martin Whitmarsh thinks the Alonso/Ferrari move is all but done and he as many others believe Monza is where the announcement will be made. This is Formula 1 after all. So if everyone including Martin believes Alonso will be confirmed at Monza expect it at a later date.
