Yeah, sportdan, you can tell when it's going to be a long day. I have found you can't leave an ineffective pitcher in, even if they're good. I had a game like that with Kerry Wood where he was just missing his spots and either walking guys or leaving stuff over the plate. I tried to press on and got smashed.sportdan30 wrote:Good story Lockdown and so very true to home. I have my wife threatening to turn off the console at times because I'm getting to into a game. Anyways, the thread that just won't go away.....
I'm just in awe in regards to the variety of games I'm getting. Last night, I had Woody Williams squaring off against Randy Johnson and the Diamondbacks. Both pitchers pitched a gem and the only mistake pitch Johnson made was a pitch down the middle of the plate that Mike Matheny launched into the seats. I was so dominant with Williams I started to wonder if I had full grasp of pitching in this game. To the point, I deemed it too easy? I shut down the Diamondbacks on a combined 4 hitter.
Next game I had Jason Marquis throwing for me against Houston. "Houston, We have a problem......" "Second that, Houston...we have a major problem." Marquis got lit up like a freshman getting into his first bar with a fake I.D. at college! The Stros' batted around the order without making a single out. I knew I was in trouble when Biggio led off the game with a triple. It went from bad to worse. 3 homers total in the inning and when it was all said and done, it was 9-0. First inning no doubt! There goes my thoughts on my grasp of pitching in this game. Well, I simulated the game to the end as it was late and I was being embarrassed. 13-3 final.
Just goes to show you that some days your pitchers are on fire and other days they are sooooo off.
Gotta love it either way.
Not to continue to kiss ESPN's a**, but...

Well this should sound familiar:
Last night before my opener of a 4 game series with the Reds, I put in the back of my mind the possibility of finding a disappointment in ESPN baseball. In particular, I hadn't seen any big late game comebacks after 21 games of my franchise. Certainly not a big deal, but it was in the back of my mind. Well, as you probably have already guessed, it happened that very game.
I am up 7-2 going into the 8th against the Reds. Clemens has pitched a very good game, but as usual (with me as the coach), he is flat exhausted after pitching 7 full. I bring in a warm Lidge to setup Dotel. So, Lidge pitches the 8th, and gives up two runs. No big deal, as that is really the first minor letdown he has given me all season.
I bring in the main cause for my inevitable early heart attack, otherwise known as Octavio Dotel, to pitch the 9th, still up 7-4. Now, in case you don't know, Dotel, if pitching well, and using full extra effort, can pitch 102 mph as far as ESPN baseball is concerned; damned fast if you ask me.
Well, the "Destruction of Dotel" begins with Adam Dunn doubling off a low and in fastball to start the inning.... and it just gets worse and worse from there. Dotel got lit up like a Christmas tree, to the tune of 4 runs (all earned) before the inning finally came to a close. Bottom of the 9th, and with the bases loaded and 2 outs, I hit a grandmom pop fly to 2nd base. And there you have it... I had just blown a 7-2 lead going into the 8th.
Final Score: Reds 8 Astros 7
P.S. - I think I need help figuring out when to throw fastballs. I swear to God, if the A.I. knows they're coming, you are in serious, serious trouble. And, maybe it's my imagination, but I swear you are better off NOT using extra effort alot of the time.
The funniest thing of all : I think I love this game more than ever!
