I'm going to cap sign ups at this point unless one of the DSP regulars all of the sudden wants in.
Looks like both south Divisions and the NFC west have only one human owner which I think is fine. I thought about switching teams so one of those guys has company but I don't want to start shuffling.
If i don't get any more feedback on the rules we'll more then likely go with those. Now we just sit an wait...

Darn, I thought I was signing up for a team in the original madden thread. I didn't realize that this one existed till now. I have not been around lately, dealing with some issues that are now resolved.
Can you please let me in? If you can fit me, here's info:
A. Panthers (I originally put the Cards, but then saw TC wanted them)
B. Texans
Central Time Zone

My initial reaction was....TCrouch wrote:Dang, I wasn't signing up yet to see what teams were left over to choose from after everybody had their choices made...
I'd have rolled with Arizona to keep XXXIV company down there. He looks so lonely
Oh no!...There goes my peaceful lil neighborhood. I knew taking the Rams would be bad...but...I think it just got a whole lot worse.
Seriously. Id like to have you take the Cards. Cant think of a better test of your game...Besides...It would be nice to see Warner win another super bowl.
I cannot wait for this game.

Edit: I see someone else wants the Cardinals. You could always take the Seahawks.

If you guys want in I'll put you in, you're vets.
I'll put Terry as the Cards and Shark as the Panthers.
Please let me know if you we're not serious. I'll make the changes to my master spreadsheet later.

I got a couple of PM's, about other people wanting in for friends etc. i am capping it at 20, sorry to anyone who thinks that is shitty but this is double what i thought would work.
I want to make sure this league runs, then we can let others in.

I was going to sign up but it filled so quickly. I would still like to play even though my Cowboys are gone. So if you do manage to squeeze any more regulars in, I'd like to play even though I'm not so regular anymore.Danimal wrote:I got a couple of PM's, about other people wanting in for friends etc. i am capping it at 20, sorry to anyone who thinks that is shitty but this is double what i thought would work.

Few things.
1. After a lot of thought I am going to open this up to as many human players as we can get, the one catch is they are members of this site. So I believe the image in the first post is up to date so if anyone else wants in let me know.
the cut off will be August 17t.
2. I just found out I have to go on a business trip on 8/24 - 8/27. I was thinking of starting that week because it would give everyone a chance to get the game and get in some practice etc.
However I obviously don't want to start and then go away and miss my first game. So with that said the start date is going to be: The week of August 31st, hopefully with this delay it will allow us to get a little better rosters if EA puts them up.
3. Depending upon the ability of the OF website we will probably move further communications there once we're going. I don't mind using DSP as a place to still talk about the league etc, but I think it would be better to use what we are given.
I'll be sending out a few PM's this weekend to some people to ask to sit on the league committee I was mentioning in previous posts. Please check your PM's this weekend.
Thanks

Agreed. That works for me.XXXIV wrote:I like the later start date alot. More time with the game should be a good thing ...for everyone... especially for someone who is using the Rams

I definitely think the rosters are in major need of an update before we start. Even though there is an online update already, these things are pretty out of date.
And while we're at it, I don't like the accelerated clock much. Personally I believe it's only really a necessary feature v. CPU, but at any rate the big problem is that it ticks off :15 or :20 (whatever setting you choose, obviously :15 is the only one that really works), to leave you with as little as :10 by the time to get to the line. Not even enough time to put one man in motion, and hey, this is supposed to be the NFL. To me it should run down however much to where you have :20 or :15 left on the play clock, rather than running off a set amount no matter where it is when you pick your play.

Ok, I figured it out. You put the code in from within the game's XBox Live menu, by selecting Online Franchise: Activate.
I notice that you can turn CPU trades on or off. I realize we may start with only a few CPU controlled teams, but I think we should allow trades with the CPU, but they should have to be OKed by the commissioner. I realize there is zero CPU trade logic for this mode, but if we keep trade requests with CPU teams reasonable and wait for Danimal to OK them, I see no reason why we can't allow them. On the other hand, turning them off makes it a lot easier on Danimal!
Any thoughts?
This is a nice read for those getting into this mode:

First of all, new rosters are online already! Gone are Jansen and Thrash from my team. Gone are Burress and Toomer from the FA list. Nice!
It seems like 8 minute quarters with the :15 accel clock does net me about half the real number of plays (just played one with 70 total plays overall, just a touch high but not unheard of; 50 were throws). What's weird is that the first half consistently ends with about one third, rather than half, of the game total. Not sure I understand that, but whatever.
There's no question that the accelerated clock helps a lot when playing v. CPU in terms of evening out time of possession and number of plays, but I'm going to voice my opinion again that it's not necessary when playing v. humans. I don't think making shifts, motioning more than one player, or adding in a hot route or two is cheese in an NFL game, and I also prefer a little more time to adjust on D (especially because I still have to flip my play about 60% of the time to get them aligned correctly as far as strong side/ weak side). The CPU will call plays instantaneously - humans have to take some time every time, so I don't see that accel clock helps in head to head games.
That said, I have played a game or two online by now with the 8 minute, :15 settings and it's playable, I just don't think we need it for the franchise. We could do shorter quarters with no accel clock, still get 1/2 the correct number of plays overall, and have time to make adjustments at the line.
Just my 2¢. I'll be perfectly happy if the consensus is to use it. I assume, Dan, we'll have weather set to 'on' for this? I'm really looking forward to this franchise, and I just hope we can figure out some free agent and trade rules that will allow those of us with bad teams to try to make some improvements to our squads in this online world of no salaries, no contracts, etc. The more I've read about that, the better I like Dan's initial idea of forcing player releases at the end of a season.
One thing I really don't get is that in Play Now, the skins are an overall 79, but when I start a franchise mode with the same rosters, they are overall 85. WTF? The players are the same, so . . . why?
