It happened to me last night at Pebbles. But because I came from behind and it was my first tournament win I didn't mind it. But I hear you, a playoff mode should be added.Auditor_Kevin wrote:Man, I can't tell you guys how dissapointed I am that there's no playoff when you finish a PGA tournament tied. This is UNBELIEVABLE. Patch this!!!

The Wii version has playoffs, but it is pretty lame.
You play extra holes, but receive no input as to what your opponent is doing.
I was in a playoff, and after birdying the first hole, it just showed my score and the competitors score on the leaderboard. Then I got par on the next hole, followed by a scoreboard showing the final results with me in second. Better than nothing, but anti-climactic.

I've played about 10 online matches with friends (360). We've had the weather set to Live every time, yet no matter what course we play, the weather is always clear-sunny-calm winds. Anyone else noticing this? Could be a coincidence, but every time?

Getting extremely frustrated with Tiger09. I was killing the competition in the 2nd "balanced" difficulty level, so I switched to Hard and it's just nuts. I shot 25 under par for the tourney and finised in 41st place. The last 2 rounds were in 30+mph winds and with very fast greens. I've been playing the game for a month now and it seems I am too good for balanced but get my ass kicked on hard. It's messed up when the leaders shoot 59s in the 3rd and 4th round of a major. Is this issue still in Tiger10? I don't play online, just on the console. I like a challenge but I shouldn't have to shoot in the 50s or very low 60s every round to be in contention. Par golf on hard is like a pro in real life shooting a bogey every hole. Discouraging!

Kind of veering off here for a minute....
You need only to take a look at the participation in the daily / weekly online tournaments to see why EA Sports has always leaned toward a more arcade style of gameplay when it comes to making their games.
I am helplessly addicted to the online daily tournaments and the Play-the-Pros tourney's as well.
This morning I woke up early and started playing some online tournaments in Tiger.
The Tour Pro (single try event) with level cap of 7 had roughly 25 scores submitted. It's still early I know this.
The Amateur Tournament using Vijay Singh already has over 300 scores posted to the leaderboards.
When the day is over and the tourneys are wrapped up you're going to see 10x, if not more, scores posted to the amateur tournaments where scores range anywhere from -18 to -24 or better.
It's a sad reality.

It's no different really from other sports games. 2k9 has an excess of "strikes only" players, FN4 has people throwing 400 punches a round, Madden has a ton of cheesers throwing 80 yards bombs with scores of 100+, NBA 2k has dudes shooting 45 3-pointers with Lebron, etc...DivotMaker wrote:Could not agree more....PRBoom wrote:It's a sad reality.

Then Developers need to do a better job of representing the sports they are trying to represent.greggsand wrote:It's no different really from other sports games.
The problem with that is they can't IMO. IF you have two players who play the game the way it's supposed to be played then you won't have a problem. It's when one side tries to play it legit and the other side plays it like a videogame and they don't care how they win.DivotMaker wrote:Then Developers need to do a better job of representing the sports they are trying to represent.greggsand wrote:It's no different really from other sports games. 2k9 has an excess of "strikes only" players, FN4 has people throwing 400 punches a round, Madden has a ton of cheesers throwing 80 yards bombs with scores of 100+, NBA 2k has dudes shooting 45 3-pointers with Lebron, etc...DivotMaker wrote: Could not agree more....

Indeed...the "I have to win this videogame contest at any cost" mentality is the underlying issue.Rodster wrote:]

Which is why Scoop said this about our very own Macman who he fought recently on Fight Night 4.DivotMaker wrote:Indeed...the "I have to win this videogame contest at any cost" mentality is the underlying issue.Rodster wrote: The problem with that is they can't IMO. that's kind of my point. Doesn't the fact that more people online are interested in shooting -24 instead of a more realistic score lend to the fact that the developers don't do a better job of representing the sports they are trying to represent?
I think Tiger 10 does a great job of catering to both groups, but it's clear how the majority of people who play online in the tournaments want to play. They want the arcade variety and stay clear of the sim tournaments.
I wonder if there's a way to see how many people post scores in each tournament. I'd be interested to see the breakdown.
I'm actually nervous that if more people don't participate in the Tour Pro Single Attempt with Stat Cap of 7 tournaments that they'll suddenly disappear altogether.

I think this highlights a problem for sports developers, not just in Tiger but across the genre. Is Tiger a golf simulator? If so, is it a simulation of playing professional golf? Or is it a game?
This is a fundamental question that I personally think the developers ignore...with good reason. They have to make it a little bit of all of these things, and in doing so make it none of the above. As a result, people who passionately prefer one of those options are left very disappointed. OTOH, people who don't think or care about the true nature of the product, who don't care if it's hard enough to model the real thing or fun enough to accurately model playing like a pro, they get a game which is fun. And that's enough for most of the market.
A developer could make a sports game that is overwhelmingly realistic, but doing so would result in a product which is significantly less entertaining for the majority of its customers...a niche product at best.
Think about it in another genre. A totally realistic Call of Duty would consist of running from cover to cover dodging gunfire from sources that you can't locate, firing at shadows and flashes and suffering 80% of your casualties from artillery or landmines. Not exactly the stuff of gaming brilliance.
So saying that a developer should just make a game more realistic in order to have it play the way that you think it should be played ignores not only the most basic rules of game making, but the fundamentals of business as well.

In my offline PGA tour season, I just finished the US Open at Bethpage with a -9 overall, playing with high winds and very fast greens. Of course, this was only good for a tie for 42nd place, with the winner shooting -20, which pretty much seems impossible given the conditions. It seems like the CPU leaders are going to shoot the same score every single round, regardless of the wind, pin placements or green speeds. That pretty much kills the fun for me when I can play very well and still get slaughtered. I'd much rather the CPU just posted realistic scores every tournament, and I could alter my club tuning so that I am scoring in the same range.
I thought the end of the Play the Pros event this weekend was pretty unfair as well. The last 2 1/2 rounds were played in high winds, but with the capped stats I felt like I couldn't even compete on some holes. I didn't notice anyone playing in real life this weekend that had to lay up 60 yards short of the green on the par 4 16th because they couldn't hit it far enough to clear the water in front of the green in two shots. And with the very fast greens and hard pin placements in the final round, I struggled to shoot a +8, making me +7 for the tournament after sitting at -4 after two rounds.

I think I'll be joining you in these tournaments from now on. I think the only way to get fair competition is to play capped stat, one shot tournaments against other human players.Wilk5280 wrote:I'm actually nervous that if more people don't participate in the Tour Pro Single Attempt with Stat Cap of 7 tournaments that they'll suddenly disappear altogether.
My final two rounds of the British Open were brutal also. I did start The Buick Open in my offline tour and I am leading the tournament after 1 round (Tour Pro). Torrey Pines is a sweet course and the greens were a pleasure to play after playing links style for four rounds at Turnberry. I am having more fun with TW10 than any other TW game. I really love it this year.

Exactly how I feel. It's downright cheating that the cpu leaders shoot in the 50s in a major, no matter the conditions. I am pretty good at the game, but I can't shoot back to back 59s in 30mph winds in a major. I am getting extremely discouraged that shooting 6 or 7 under on a tough major course is only good enough for 45th place. In Tiger if you don't shoot 10 under or better per round you're gonna get blown out, period. That isn't real golf, that's cheating. Make the game harder for me, don't make the opponents superman. I shot a 57 as my best round ever, and I simply can't do that every round. In the balanced difficulty I was winning tournaments by 10 to 15 shots. Now I'm losing by that much on hard. They need sliders or more than 4 difficulty levels. It's either kick the s*** out of the cpu or let them do that to me. No in between. Pisses me off to a certain degree. Oh well.HipE wrote:In my offline PGA tour season, I just finished the US Open at Bethpage with a -9 overall, playing with high winds and very fast greens.
