I'm glad EA is finally starting to get it. The amazing thing is every bit of that stuff was in NFL 2k5 five years ago.

Agreed, too bad these guys couldn't take over the NCAA series !

Well I was going to wait, possibly pick it up second-hand, to withhold money from Tiburon.

But Amazon is giving you a $10 gift card (for use at Amazon only) if you order before release.

So the price is $56.99 plus the $10 credit. Plus no sales taxes (enjoy that while you can, states are trying to scavenge for sales taxes from online purchases and a federal moratorium on Internet taxes runs out in a couple of years)

They offer release day delivery for $6 but apparently Amazon Prime members get that for free.

No hurry so I went for the free shipping but they show they won't even ship until 8/19.

Too bad they don't have prerelease deals like this for NHL 10 or FIFA 10.

The thing I don't get is that all we've seen are videos and developer hype...what makes this year any different? Everybody seems set that Madden 10 will be the greatest thing since the invention of the wheel, but haven't all of us been bitten by the hype bug enough?

I'm in the minority that I actually enjoyed Madden 09. I didn't think it was the steaming pile of dung that most seem to think it was. But I still don't get why so many people who are disappointed over Madden again and again and again are suddenly sure that this release will be the asskicking game that they've all waited for.

Ian promised the moon last year and everybody hated it. I guess I'm just curious what changed everybody's minds. A few videos? Ian saying it's awesome (like he ever says anything else)?

I'm with ya Terry. I enjoyed Madden 09 as well. I guess it's the massive gang tackling and the little fluff that has everybody excited. I will freely admit that Madden 06 was missing a lot of stuff but they have consistently made Madden a better game IMO this gen. I know I am in the extreme minority on this one but I've always been more keen on gameplay rather than features. I know there's still issues EA hasn't addressed with gameplay but I feel they've made a huge jump from 06 to 09. The combination of NCAA 10 and everything I've seen on Madden have me really pumped for Madden 10.

I'm not expecting much change.

If anything, there's a reason to be afraid they break whatever semblance of realism the game had for the gang tackles. For all we know, it could be like Tecmo Bowl or NFL2K4, where big rushing yards are racked up because of cheap tackle-breaking gameplay.

Tiburon and EA in general have demonstrated a cynical approach to fixing flaws. All this community interaction has done is that some glaring problems are identified early, some are patched but the other issues aren't addressed.

It's so easy to think the reason they hold out on some fixes is to dangle them for next year and so on. For example, the broken online leagues scheduling last year, which they declined to patch.

This year, it's going to be the lack of salary cap in online franchises, which they apparently won't fix or patch. Really gulling because they tout the feature and they brag about how a lot of it is server-based (not that it matters because they can obviously patch the client binaries too).

Anyways, there's a used market for the game so it's easy enough to get back most of your money.

Well, I guess hope springs eternal, and of course EA are great at the hype, but this one seems to have two key things that a lot of people who don't like Madden have been waiting for: a new gameplay mechanic that truly separates it from the last get versions and affects the whole of gameplay positively (except maybe kicking); and some basic and essential presentation changes that surround the gameplay and seek to make the game feel more alive. We'll see.

I don't know about the 2nd, and maybe this isn't fair to compare it with The Show, but that game did a lot of in-game little things. While the chain gang and other things will add to it, I wonder how much you'll want to see when you start playing the game.

Maybe the key is the commentary and that's where Madden has struggled for so long. From the vids, it seems that they made the proper switch but didn't get it done right.

Baseball is so different from football in terms of how you can fit in presentation but I think a lot of the cut-scenes and new additions like that will be lost because of you'll be looking at selecting a play not the cut-scene.

If I had to prioritize presentation it would be, capturing the little things during the action, better commentary, and some sort of TV presentation bring you closer into the weekly action around the NFL.

Which is why I still enjoy playing NFL2K5, because it tied ESPN, the commentary, half time highlights, on field presentation and created the complete package wrt " tv presentation".

Madden still has not achieved that even though technically it's the better game. As far as commentary goes in Madden, Chris Collingsworth sounds great and comes off very natural. It's the selection of the play by play guy they didn't do a good job with.

Halftime game updates with videos of plays and a weekly around the league show would REALLY add to the immersion of the game - just like it did in NFL 2k5.

I don't want a ton of things slowing the game play itself down.. because most of the time I would just button press through them.

I would want to know what's going on in my league without having to read box scores though.

As i've said before many times. My biggest beef with last years Madden wasn't the game play but the way the game portrayed how a game is played on Sunday. It was a snooze fest in that department.

I remember back in the late 90's how Madden use to be with cutscenes from John Madden and Pat Summerall during important games such as the playoffs and even JB from Fox Sports even joining in on the action. There is no such thing anymore and is a major reason why gamers still show so much love at NFL 2K5.

I also think the gameplay didn't have enough randomness. Like I've said many times before, sometime in EA games it's all about beating a system not about playing football, or as close to football as you can.

We'll see what they do this year as the hype machine is in full effect.

I wouldn't do that, it says in the email I got that putting it in early may cause invalidation of the code.

It's also weird that my code says it's for NCAA Football 10, while the header says here's your demo code for Madden 10
