I know I'm late to this MJ thread, but I was in "jail"
I was never a big fan of MJ's music, as I much prefer hard edge rock, ala Led Zep/AC DC or alt. rock ala Foo Fighters or Pearl Jam. Most of his radio hits got played to death (Billy Jean, Thriller) and I always thought his music was way overrated when compared to other pop artists, like The Beatles or Prince or Stevie Wonder. I think MJ's greatest talent was as a live performer/dancer. Everything else was way down on the list IMO. He was a extraordinary child star who grew into a strange man/child that didn't seem comfortable in his own skin or in this world.
He was probably one of the most recognizable people throughout the world and seemed to be loved my millions despite all his "weirdness". I am sorry to see someone die so young and have such a hard time along the way, but I always thought he was a horrible role model. Irresponsible with money, his kids, his health, the law, his fame. Too many "questionable" behaviors and relationships to list here. Yes, I am sorry to see him go, but I refuse to give him the adulation and divine praise that most see to be giving him. JMO of course.

Something never sat right about his kids to me, mainly the fact that his kids look 100% white. Whether MJ had that skin disorder or plastic surgery, and the kids had a white mother, shouldn't his genetic children still be half black?JackB1 wrote:the saga continues...
Now they are saying MJ's dermatologist is the father of 2 of his kids!
Huh???
Doesn't it not matter who the biological father is as long as legally MJ is considered the dad. If the dr just donated his sperm doesn't he lose parental rights. Also I heard that Rowe was a surrogate so she technically is not the biological mother. Ultimately MJ is the only parent the kids have known

Some mixed kids are more white than black but not 100/ white like jacksons. I thought he bleached his kids but now that we know some white person is the bio dad then we got to say f*** micheal Jackson. MF couldn't get a black guy to make his kids or adopt from Africa or Asia. Shot even Pitt joliemaddona adopted colored kids. So f*** you mj you cracka wannabe mother******!

If heated discussion of politics spawn bans and that kind of racist venom doesn't, then I'll seriously question my DSP membership card ...

Well. I'd have to say that doesn't represent the views of the Black community. In fact, I've yet to meet anyone who has expressed those same feelings. Also, I'd have to say, if the situation was reversed I'd call for a ban of the person with those views. So I agree with everyone calling for a ban.

Going over his discography, he really didn't release that much material during his "prime" period of 1982-2002. 6 albums worth of new material over the course of 20 years.
With him being the "king of pop", I expected to see more material. I never paid too much attention to him (I was never awaiting his next release), so I never realized how long he took between albums. I guess it seemed like more because his succuss ratio (hits per album) was so high. He always seemed to have a new video on MTV.
From what I know by the titles, I'm sure I could eek out a dozen songs I'd store on my iPod. Smooth Crimial, Remember the time, Dirty Diana, Jam, Beat It, Thriller, and Starting Somthin' are all tracks I can listen to without throwing up in my mouth.

MJ kinda of had a CCR thing going on where it wasn't a lot of albums, but every one of them (in the prime years) had 8+ hits on them (rock and R&B charts).matthewk wrote:Going over his discography, he really didn't release that much material during his "prime" period of 1982-2002. 6 albums worth of new material over the course of 20 years.

It's hard to think of anyone's album in the last 20 years with even 4 'hit' singles on it (G&R's Appetite is the only one that comes to mind).

I just saw this over at CNN.com I remember when this happened I thought it was a publicity stunt but the video shows it was a legitimate accident.TheGamer wrote:Damn, this might drive me to painkillers.

The weird thing about these recently released videos of MJ's hair on fire, is that he doesn't seem to realize or feel anything. Wouldn't you feel a little heat if your hair was on fire? He continued to dance and walk down those stairs and almost his whole head was up in flames when his crew jumped on him and put it out.
Amazing how much worse that incident really was from what it seemed like back then. Seems like the media was shielded from how bad it really was.
