Just finished my round, which was a -3. A few issues popped up;

On Wii, putting grid was on, but putting meter was off. I know that putting meter is on for upcoming Wii online tournaments. Can someone on 360 report if this differs from normal 360 settings? Jack says he played with putting grid off this tournament.

My weather said live weather, which turned out to be rain on the front and stopping on the back. The 'course information' always reported the greens and fairways as hard and fast, and they certainly played hard on landings, but the greens didn't seem super fast on the front 9 but seemed to me to speed up on the back 9 (could be in my head). My concern is if we really have live weather, are all of us going to get different conditions based on when we play? And if so, will it matter (just considering that I started in a rainstorm yet everything was very hard rated)?

Lastly, my connection to the EA servers on my Wii sucked today. Took me several tries to successfully get into their servers and start, and even then I lost my connection after 15 holes and couldn't submit my score to their servers. Anybody else having issues?

Don't forget to get your rounds in by tomorrow guys. :)

Naples...

The putting grid was off for me and I didnt see any way to change that myself.

I wish someone would explain the live weather to me. What if I play in the middle of the night? Is it the weather of that day?

How do you turn off the putting meter?

I have played with the grid off...but it is near impossible to read the greens...I wish their was an "advanced" alternative green reading system.

For offline play, turning off the putting meter is in the options. However, during certain online play tournaments it is disabled and a player cannot turn it back on. The latter is the case for this week's online weekly tournament at Bethpage that we are doing for our DSP tour event.

I also can't imagine playing without the grid in the Wii verson. The graphics don't exactly have high poly counts, and unlike the PC versions that I'm used to, your control of the camera is very limited (no hotkey for placing the camera on the ground behind your ball :(). I really can't see how they expect you to read the green without the grid in the Wii version. Fortunately it appears that no online tournaments mandate 'grid off' as they mandate 'putting meter off.'

And Jack, live weather should be exactly as it sounds---you play the conditions that are happening at that moment at that course, even if it is the middle of the night when you fire up your console. My question is, given that you and I had the same exact weather pattern, and it would be unfair for an online tournament to give different people different weather, is if live weather is truly active for the online tournaments.

Just finished... +10 on the Wii *blecch*

I probably rushed it a bit (I really should have taken a practice round), but I had my share of good moments as well as grating moments.

My weather was clear, if gray, throughout with extremely hard and fast greens (much to the chagrin of my short game).

the putting grid makes a HUGE difference. I played Bethpage with the grid during the "Play With Pro's" tournament and scored a 72, but with our tournament which was basically the same but no grid, I scored a +18.

Maybe we should just stick to the "Play with Pro" tournaments for this?
Unless there are tournaments that have the putting grid on.

Either way, I am enjoying the "Play with Pro" mode the most, since I dont have to compete with online cheesers that score -25.

There has only been one tournament with grids off, so I don't expect this kind of tournament very often.

Which tournament are we playing? I think I already played it, but want to make sure.

We are playing the first round of this week's weekly tournament at Bethpage Black.

I'm sure the putting grid off makes a big difference. The problem with play with the pro's though is that on Wii at least, it requires you to use your career golfer and doesn't let you select a pro.

Since I think most guys are playing on the Wii, next time I call for people to play the weekly tournament I will post the settings details so you guys on 360 can just recreate the settings offline. Of course that raises the issue of unlocking courses, as some courses (Bethpage among them) are locked at first.

Holy crap, I wish I played when it was raining.

I haven't had time to put together for 18 holes yet, but I did a couple of practice holes twice, once in the mess and just now in the clear.

The greens are crazy harder now.

I'm hoping it rains tonight!!!

An ugly +13 for me. I had a harder time playing with Tiger than with my created player... was terrible with distances for some reason, with some going shorter than they would have seemed to and others going long. I didn't hit a fairway until the 10th hole, where you'd have to be an idiot not to hit it, and the only bright spot was an eagle on 13. Fat lot of good it did me!

Well I managed to get a quick round after a long trip back home just in time for fathers' day. I really struggled in the front nine where I only managed to have three pars and was inconsistent with the back nine. My weakness was the putter where I just could not get the read on the speed of the greens. Far from my -5 score on the PSP, I rather struggled with a +14 on the 360.

Also played a live tournament round with my created player with just attributes at around 4.1 (didn't have much time to play with the 360 version as much) and scored a +22. Still amazing to see some guys hitting 400 yards and -29 scores.

Shoot, I think I played the wrong tournament then. I did the Play The Pros first round at Bethpage w/ Tiger on the PS3 and shot a -4 66. I didn't look to see if there was another tourney active at Bethpage.

Oh well, I should have my Wii back tomorrow so I'll be good for future tourneys. I really don't think that scores are comparable between the 360/PS3 and the Wii.

I shot a +9 with the 360 version just now. I just got the game today, so I can't complain too much. I played the last 3 holes 1 under par, I think I was finally starting to get the hang of it.

My created player must have the weakest putting power of all time. After using him all day, my first putt with Tiger on Bethpage was a 35 footer uphill. I ended up sending the ball 65 feet past the cup, so it didn't take long to learn i was going to have to use a much smaller swing with him :)

Nice score considering how long you have had the game.

In the future, whenever switching to a Pro or your character, make use of the practice swing so you don't have those kinds of episodes. It is pretty obvious your putting attribute is very low for your character which is the reason for the power disparity. The practice swing becomes very useful when you turn the putting meter off.....

Is it just me or does the practice putt not work when the meter is turned off?

Maybe I should read the manual or watch the tutorial vids, I never even realized there was a practice putt option. Is there any way to do a practice swing as well? My short game is killing me as I have no way of knowing how to judge swinging less than 100%

I have to say, I really like this game so far. This is my first experience with a golf game on the 360, and it reminds me quite a bit of Links 2004 for the Xbox, which I loved.

I spent a half-hour before bed just doing tournament challenges to try and get some upgrades for my character... had a great time. I think I'll keep chipping away at those before dipping back into the regular tour mode.

And Play The Pros is just a brilliant thing. Are there any other sports where it would even make sense? I can't think of any.

Nascar and Indy etc would be cool after the fact, with drivers posting real qual times and running stops, etc, like they did in the race.

It works here. Pressing down on the loft stick is what brings it up....

What happens, as I initially discovered doing an online PTP tourney (but it appears to be the same offline) is that with the putting meter off, the message is still there to hold B and A to do a practice putt, but when you press them both it never engages, and your putt is your putt is your putt. Perhaps that's just so you don't see a percentage on your test putt, which would basically provide the same information that the putting meter would have.

Would you mind posting that information on the EA Tiger Wii forums?

http://forum.ea.com/eaforum/forums/show/554.page

That would help EA try to reproduce the issue and possibly patch this.

I sort of got the feeling this was done on purpose too, Slumber, for the reason you mentioned. You'd still be getting the % info on your swing (Though granted, you couldn't see it until after you made your swing while having the meter on lets you see it as you are swinging.)
