8 max on line and off.
That's ridiculous. Le Mans with eight cars? Whoopdee-damn-sh*t.

How is it that 4-year-old PC sims -- with players using all sorts of different hardware -- can run races with 20+ players online yet a powerful console connected to the most sophisticated online console gaming network -- all running the same system -- only run eight racers online?

What a joke.

Take care,

I wish Forza 3 allowed for more than 8 drivers too, but for some reason I still really enjoy the game. Forza 1, and 2 have given me much more enjoyment than any pc sim I have ever raced.

In iRacing I haven’t seen more than 11 people racing online together in the Solstice, Spec Racer Ford or Legends. Thats only 3 more cars and with Forza you don't have to purchace extra content or pay a monthly fee.

I like the game a lot too but I just dont see why they cant figure a way to get more cars on the grid.

I'm not making any excuses for the devs but supposedly they are using something like 10x the polygons for each car versus Forza 2, in-car view, realistic damage and solid AI all at a steady 60FPS. I'm disappointed that there might be only 8 cars per race but of all the previews i've read they haven't nailed down the amount of cars that will be in an actual race.

Whatever the outcome it should be a solid racing game.

If they put more cars on the grid they sacrifice in graphics, then people complain about how the game should look better. They make the graphics better, then people complain that there's not enough cars. It seems like racing games that have a lot of cars on the grid AND look pretty good graphically have real choppiness issues when cars go into the corners and are on screen at once. Personally, I would rather take a hit in the graphics area if it meant a bigger grid, but the mass consumers out there on the whole care more about a game's graphics. There is also the issue of the amount of processing it takes in Forza for each car's AI. I forget how many calculations per second each car goes through, but it's impressive.

I personally would give up on some of the graphics for more cars but I dont know how that works exactly...

Im assuming we have to wait for the next box for awesome graphics and 16 cars?

I didn't know about the 8 car field until I read this thread - what a bummer! This game went from being one of my most anticipated games to 'meh' in a matter of seconds - I'll still be picking it up but what a disapointment. Combine this with Bizarre Creations' Blur which looks like an arcadey POS (I loved PGR 4) and Gran Turismo 5 is looking more and more palatable....

I have really been looking forward to Forza, but the fact that they focused so much on community customization in the press conference, combined with only 8 cars on the tracks really make me worries about the priorities of the dev team.

I understand that some sacrifices would be necessary to get more than 8 cars on the track, but their decision still remains indefensible to me.

I just don't think Forza is meant to be a racing game at all. It's a very good driving sim, a very good car collecting game, and an extremely good car customization game, but the racing is not nor ever has been a focus of the series.

The AI is well above average compared to the GTs of the world, and a lot better than it could be if they really didn't care at all about racing. But the fact is, the racing is the bottom thing on the list. Any game that can justify so few cars on the grid, can't get the flags right especially for the end of the race, or has no practice or qualifying for online racing, is just not built with racing at the core. And even so, when you race online those few AI cars have no independent personality, make too few mistakes, and don't really race each other at all. They just line up and parade; not as bad as in the last few GTs I played, but pretty close.

And it's a shame, too, because the damage model, the tire degradation and the rubbering in of the tracks, and all that kind of stuff would add a ton to a good racing game if they chose to build a real racer around all that stuff.

I guess it is really good when all you are doing is the three or five lap sprints, but once you try to do a longer race, either offline or online, it doesn't work well, and the paucity of cars on track is a big reason.

I don't know, Forza just isn't doing it for me this time around. I don't think I'll be picking it up.

I'll definitely be picking it up when it goes PH. That way I can get all the extra content for free. :)

I might actually buy a wheel for GT5. That is if it actually comes out in my life time.

Let's just hope they're not using the same brain dead AI as in past GT games or it's off my list.

I've been watching some of the videos at the site above. I am getting more and more excited about the game. The huge number of tracks alone is super cool.

The game looks sick. Geez I was hoping to hold off till it went Platinum Hits as the last one had all the updates and DLC included for free.

IGN just put up a two page description of the career mode. Yeah, uh, holy crap this game looks better by the day.

This game is a definite purchase for me, and most news as been more or less to expectation (with the exception of 8 cars on track, which sucks). The only real piece of info I'm waiting for is the track list. 100 tracks is too good to be true, so I want to see the actual list and see what real tracks are included.

No game has ever managed to get me interested and leave me disappointed (twice) like Forza. My reaction to the series is very similar to Zeppo's. Offline, I found the game to get boring quickly because the racing was so robotic, and online I never enjoyed it as much as PGR.

Still, I do think the third one sounds good, and I'll probably pick it up. It holds it's value well, so I can probably try it out and sell it if I have the same reaction to it.

Within a year (11 months) of it being released Toys R Us was selling the game for $9.98

Forza 2 was one of the few non stick and ball games I have ever come close to completing. Something about unlocking the whole game and reaching level 50 was really fun for me. I believe I have spent more time playing Forza 2 than any other 360 game. It has its flaws but it is quite a fun game if you can look past them.

That said Forza 3 is a release day purchase for me.

Yep. A release date purchase for me too.

I did not complete as much of the Forza2 as you did but I did get to level 43 so I understand what you are saying. Maybe its the grinder in me but every time I thought I was done with the game I always came back to it and found myself playing it for long stretches.

I think Ill be popping it in right now for a quick race or two.
