For some reason I have no interest at all in 10 on the 360. I don't know if its that 09 really wasn't much of and upgrade and I don't want to spend another $60 less than 10 months later, or that maybe I am just tiring of the analog stick swing mechanics.
That said, I decided to pick the Wii version up today as the Motion Plus stuff has me really interested. I only had a few minutes to play a couple of holes so I couldn't really dig into the swing mechanics but it's light years ahead of all the other golf games I have played on the Wii. The only concern I have (and its the same thing that bothers me on the 360) is that I hope the driving and approach shot difficulty is not an all or nothing proposition. If the Wii remote is able to pick up subtle differences in swing paths and club face angles and translate that properly I will be thrilled.
I can't wait to get back and play some more because my initial 10 minute impression is that this game could be an absolute ton of fun.

Question for those with the Wii version. I'm a decent golfer (high 70's-low 80's on moderately difficult courses) but due to my years of playing hockey i have an ugly swing. In addition, my power is generated from extreme club head speed as my backswing is more slapshot than nice, smooth extension and shoulder turn.
From the sounds of it i fear that this motion will translate into frustration when it comes to the Wii version. Would those of you who own it concur with this assumption or no? Thanks.

See, Happy wasn't actually a hockey player so his swing is much sweeter than mine. Although i do hold my putter with my hands about a foot apart....is that wierd.RallyMonkey wrote:

btaylorstl's Wii impressions @ Gamefaqs. After this, I'll stop copying and pasting other gamers impressions as many of us here will have the game. I thought this was a well written review though.
If you're at all on the fence about whether this game is all it's cracked up to be, don't even bother reading this. Get off your keester and get to the nearest retailer and buy the MotionPlus bundle. It's worth its weight in gold.
I picked it up on my lunch break from work so I only got to play for about 40 minutes, which included the tutorials and a rather rushed round at Banff Springs playing as Tiger on Standard difficulty.
Right off the bat, the MotionPlus effect is obvious. The game will track every movement you make, no matter how slight, and it shows you dynamically how you're addressing the ball. This is very helpful when you're trying to put a draw or fade on a ball and you want to get a sense for how you should have the club positioned at impact to achieve that level of curve. Unlike last year, you do not have to hold the club in the awkward position all the way through the swing. As long as you have the remote twisted at impact, the effect will work. And it works beautifully.
I can't stress enough how monumentally awesome the draw/fade mechanics are, particularly since it plays into your regular swings as well. MotionPlus allows the game to much more accurately determine the angle of the remote as you swing through, so even on Standard difficulty (and I'm sure it's much more pronounced on Advanced), you will find yourself slightly hooking and slicing things if you aren't perfectly straight. This adds great realism and welcome strategy to your tee and approach shots, because you'll probably want to err on the side of caution when dealing with your aiming to account for the possibility of an inadvertent mis-hit.
Another huge improvement is partial strength shots. As with real golf, it's quite challenging to get exactly 50 or 75 percent on a shot, but at least it's much more consistent and accurate now. Twice I was able to finesse a shot quite nicely, where in the past it was such a crap shoot that I didn't even bother trying.
Of course, the biggest difference is with the new putting system. At first, it will be very difficult to get used to, because it's so much more realistic. There is no more multiple strength putting. Now, if you hit the ball as hard as you can, it will go as far as it can, and if you hit it softly, it will go more softly. Where this becomes a big issue is on shorter putts, like from 5-15 feet. Ordinarily you're used to hitting such shots at 100% power with a 5-20 foot "power" putter. Now, you have to take a lot off of it, like you would on a real golf course. It's really amazing how intuitive it is once you start forgetting all of the unrealistic bad habits that old games have ingrained in you. I can't imagine how satisfying putting will be on Advanced mode once I get more practice in.
Anyone who finds the ease of Tiger Woods games in the past off-putting are in for a welcome change this year. I can bet that the days of shooting in the 50's on Advanced mode are over. This game feels as close to real golf as I've ever seen without getting so frustrating that you'll want to quit (like real golf can be.) An absolutely marvelous achievement from what I've played so far. Do not hesitate in picking this up, and do yourself a favor and use Precision putting. It's so much better than last year it's not even funny.

Man, unless I'm missing something the Camera in the Wii version is the same old one from the PS2 days. I have not seen a single angle other than the ball cam. Terrible.J_Cauthen wrote: Finally, I'm very pleased with the camerwork in TW 10! It's so nice to watch the shot from my golfer's perspective for the 3 to 5 seconds the virtual producer holds that camera view. It makes the experience so much more intimate. The more useful camera cuts, particularly on putts, is also much appreciated.
Some updated impressions of the Wii version.
Presentation is horrible. Graphics, camera, commentary, course atmosphere.....you name it. It could just be that I've only played the 360 and PC versions before this, but I'm having a much more difficult time than I thought I would with it. The graphics I can look past, but to not have any decent camera options or different angles at all is just inexcusable to me. Its the one and only ball cam that we have had since the very first PS2 Tiger. The game is just as dry as can be.
The Wii Motion Plus is strictly for club face angle as you strike the ball. If you disconnect it, the only thing it affects is your ability to change the clubhead angle. The actual swing path is not taken into account. I can take the remote and swing my arm way out in front of me and finish behind my back and it will not affect a thing as long as that swing is somewhat right to left and my remote has not been twisted.
Clubhead speed is taken into account by how fast you swing the remote and that is impressive. Taking the club back 3/4ths and swinging 3/4ths speed produces very realistic results.
Its really cool to twist the remote as you are addressing the ball and see the clubhead angle graphic adjust. I've found that putting fade or draw on the ball by twisting the remote at ball contact is very difficult but thats just my poor skills at work. When I try and do it on purpose I tend to shank the ball. I think its well done and it will get easier with practice.
Overall, between the lack of any decent cameras and the fact that swing path is completely ignored, I have to say I'm a bit disappointed and I don't know if I will be keeping the game. I might just be picky and have unrealistic expectations though. My initial excitement has turned quickly though as the game feels very bland to me.

Before you play, make sure your Wii Motion Plus is properly locked in! Mine wasn't, and without it I was breezing through the game. It didn't feel very 1:1 at all. Once, I made the fix, all things changed. Do I suck! I'm absolutely lousy at golf, and well...it translated very well to this game. It definitely became a game of frustration, much like how I really play. I unintentionally was "drawing" my shots to the left.
If you go to the PLAY NOW feature, you simply choose a course and hit the links with Tiger. Presentation is quite bland as btm alluded to. However, if you go to options, choose your golfer (most are locked), turn broadcast on, weather on, etc. you also get get some chick and Van Pelt commentating. It makes more a much more immersive atmosphere.
I've only played around 18 holes total, but Wii Motion Plus is downright impressive. It truly does react to everything you do. I very much look forward to more games utilizing this feature. Can't wait to play more tonight after the kids go to bed.

"Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 for Wii is the definitive golf game. It's filled to the top with content, sports spectacular controls enhanced by MotionPlus, and includes great Disc Golf and online modes. Seriously, this is an amazing package made all the better by the peripheral pack- in. Just as impressive, though, is that this year's effort is so intuitively enjoyable that it has, in my experience, transcended the golf category altogether to become one of those rare Wii games that I will confidently recommend to anybody. Wii Sports, Wii Fit, Boom Blox and now Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 -- these are all games that are spectacular because of the very technology that makes Wii great. Like Wii Sports, Woods 10 could not be made as well for any other system. Get out there and support this excellent sequel -- a standout effort that will surely be in competition for sports game of the year."

I could be an idiot and just not see it, or in EA fashion it could be buried in some deep menu layer, but I cannot find an option in the settings menu or anywhere that would affect the camera angles.Spooky wrote:BTM...did you change the camera mode in the settings to 'Broadcast: All'?
Thats the thing. The backswing still seems 1:1 even without the MotionPlus. MotionPlus seems to only control clubface angle on impact. Once you detach the MotionPlus, the angle indicator just disappears. I think the fact that the swing path is not tracked at all is the most disappointing thing to me outside of the horrible, PS2 presentation.sportdan30 wrote:Before you play, make sure your Wii Motion Plus is properly locked in! Yeah, I did all of that. The broadcasters are beyond bland and the "tournament atmosphere" is laughable.sportdan30 wrote:However, if you go to options, choose your golfer (most are locked), turn broadcast on, weather on, etc. you also get get some chick and Van Pelt commentating. I know I sound terribly negative, but the motion controls are fantastic compared to any other golf game before it. The game has TONS of courses and gameplay modes. The ball physics are fairly well done (although sidehill lies are questionable at best). I'm just hung up on the fact that the swing path is not tracked and the overall bland feeling of the game.
