I just noticed that Gamestop has updated my XBox 360 version order status to "Shipped" for Tiger Woods 10. I checked the tracking number and it shows that it's scheduled for delivery on 6/8/09 (Monday)! This is a day earlier than I expected. What's killing me is that I know the package now sits in the UPS facility 4 miles from where I'm typing this, according to the "Package Progress" report.... ARRGGHH!

I might actually get to see my gamertag in the top 100 for an hour or two on Monday morning. I'll have to do a screen capture because it will be the last time :)

I'll be posting impressions late Monday afternoon, provided I can get at least Monday afternoon off. The College World Series should be awesome this year, I envy you!

Kewl! I'm organizing what's being called a Tiger Woods 10 Jamboree on the evening of the 9th (Tuesday). I've got 8 gamers, so far, who are going to join me in a shotgun start at the site of Tuesday's "Tour Pro" Daily. We're going to all tee off #1 at the same time and have our own "Tournament within a Tournament".

I'm going start a "party chat" prior to the start for those who want to have voice commiunication while play is in progress. We'll get to see how everyone who's signed up for the Jamboree is doing after each hole, since the leaderboard is real time. If you, or anyone else here is interested, let me know and I'll add you to the list.

Sports.com's Tiger Woods forum is where the idea came about, but I'll wind up spanning 4 or more forums with this. Right now I'd say we're shooting for a 9:00 PM to 10:00 PM EDT start. This is sort of an experiment to see how the new Daily and Weekly tournament process can be used for more expansive online play.

I'm a little slow out of the gate because I built my player from photoface, and went into the Tournament Challenges trying to build my player. I started out in Tour Pro mode before hitting the first ball. I also tuned the stock clubes to maximum power and minimum sweetspot before playing. I've done enough now to offer a report, so here goes.

I turned the putting meter off before I played the first hole, along with the big hit cameras, pressure moments, and the pre and post shot animations (which are both covered under one option). Meterless putting is a good bit tougher than I thought it was going to be! I think I'll get the hang of it with time, but I had to turn the meter back on while I'm trying to built my player's attributes, otherwise I won't be able to get through enough of them to at least get to 7 on the attributes.

I'm finding the metered putting to be easy, for the most part, but when it goes bad... it can really go bad. I put several 3 foot par putts 15 feet by the hole in my tournament challenge against Se Ri Pak. These two putts cost me the match, as a matter of fact. It was my fault and not a flaw in the game. I don't particularly like watching a meter while I'm putting. It takes me out of game for the time it takes to make the stroke.

I played a 9 hole stroke play round off the white tees at Sawgrass, using live weather. It is overcast there today
and the course really looked dank, compared to the way we're used to seeing it. It didn't look bad, mind you, it just looked less gussied up... I liked the change after I got used to it. I shot a 34, but had a 4-putt green in the process. I went hyper on the putt strength to account for the double bogey, which was from 18 feet, BTW.

One thing I particularly want to congratulate the design team on from playing this round; I had set the greens to hard. I played a lob wedge from 75 yards and hit an 85% full shot. The ball hit the green well below the hole... instead of stopping on a dime, or even backing up, it took a hard bounce and rolled about 25 feet before stopping 5 feet from the hole. What a delight it was to see a shot like that in Tiger Woods console golf!

I'm at the turn in today's Tour Pro Mode Daily. I'm playing as Ian Poulter, because my player is nowhere near being ready to play black tees in Tour Pro mode (still under 5 across the board). I shot a 34 (-1) and have had to play my derrier off to get that! What kind of sick joke did you guys at EA Sports have in mind with today's daily!? The first day that this game has a chance to get into the public's hands, and you sadists set the Daily at Pinehurst, with very fast greens, very fast fairways, and long rough :!: :?:   It is a humbling experience to say the least. Seriously though guys... it's a good show and I relish the challenge 8)

Finally, I'm very pleased with the camerwork in TW 10! It's so nice to watch the shot from my golfer's perspective for the 3 to 5 seconds the virtual producer holds that camera view. It makes the experience so much more intimate. The more useful camera cuts, particularly on putts, is also much appreciated. There's so much more to discover, so I'm off to finish my Daily at Pinehurst. I'm in the lead right now, but there are only two players on the leaderboard. I can't see the sort of play I've had holding up though. The leader is at +2. If I can beat that, I'll be tickled.

EDIT: I just went back to finish my Daily round, and found that I had been disconnected from the server in my 20 minute absence! Oh well, you live and learn!

Wii impressions from Seymour Scagnetti @ OS:

Ok I played a little bit because I couldn't resist and yes I did get the WMP with it. They give you an extended sleeve to use for your remote. Pretty easy to snap on and just starts working with no problem.

I did the tutorial for a bit but went straight to Play Now on Advanced (there are 3 swing difficulties, Advanced is hardest it disables manual fade\draws and putt preview) and precision putting.

I just hit stroke play and I got Banff Springs. The swing mechanics are fantastic. I'm about a 15 handicap so I have a half decent swing and I normally draw the balls and the majority of my swings were draws. I'm thoroughly inpressed. If you take an easy swing like in real golf you'll get good distance and if you try and hurry your swing it's going in the rough. Driving is the easiet (not really easy but easier than the other parts. It's the chip shots and putting that's difficult. Drawing and fading by turning your wrists as you swing and taking half swings works great. Immediatley after you take a shot it tells you in the corner of the screen whether it's straight or a draw or a fade and the % of power.

Putting is so intuitive and hard as hell and that's me using Tiger in practice round so it all depends on your swing. I haven't got into the club tuner yet. For some reason you can't turn off the putt meter (maybe just in tour mode?) in practice but it doesn't really matter because that hurts more than helps. You dont really notice it when you're putting as I'm looking down and then at the putter head when I hit and it feels damn good when you make a putt. There is a slight lag but I look down when I'm hitting my driver and irons just like a real golf swing so it's no problem and the lag didin't bother me putting either. The swing is incredibly accurate. I bogeyed almost every hole on the 9 I played but as soon as you get familiar with the course I shouyld start getting better but not too much better because it all depends on your swing. I don't think this is a game you will be shooting in the 50's on advanced mode. Thank god.

I didn't get a chance to go to career or challenges, I'll do that later tonite but so far this is incredibly fun and amazing to play when you have buddies over. I'll post more impressions later tonite if I get a chance but I might be up late playing this.

The only downside is the graphics are not so hot but it's so immersive you don't even think about it.

Tiger sure couldn't have picked a better weekend to have his game released. He shoots 65 over the weekend including a pitch shot right into the hole in the 11th hole at the Memorial and so far reviews are very positive. My only dilemma is 360 or Wii. Here's another 360 take:

Hmmm.... the lie of the ball doesn't affect the flight of the shot? That's what the xbox.com review says......

Is this true?

More Wii impressions from Seymour:

Ok this game is killer hard. I'm playing Bethpage Black on advanced with fast greens and fairways from the black tees. The only thing I have set easier is wind on breezy. I feel like I'm really playing Bethpage Black. After 5 holes I'm 7 over. This game is hard as hell and it ****ing rocks. In Play Now mode you can turn off the putting meter. There's an options screen in the main menu that lets you set all kinds of things. Before I was looking at the options sub menu when I was playing a course.

Putting is so fun and when you sink anything over 5 feet you feel really good about it. Run, don't walk tomorrow and buy the Wii version.

They have a tournament camera view so I'm assuming that it's the same as for the 360\PS3. I have it set on that but I'll get the player's view for a few seconds and then it follows the ball. But it maybe something that can only be done in tour mode because I have commentary set in the main options and I'm not getting commentary in that Play Now mode. I'v only played TW on the PC so I don't know what the old camera view was for last year.

OK I started playing Sawgrass because Bethpage was too hard and I'm only 1 over after 4 holes but with Greens and fairways set at average. This game is such a blast. When you hit a drive and it lands on the fairway you feel so damn good. This game is gonna take alot of practice.

Ok I just shanked a shot with my driver from the teebox on Sawgrass and it went like 90 yards. That is the coolest thing ever. I'm not sure if I took my finger off the B button too early but nevertheless it's still something that can happen.

This is the most fun I ever had playing a video game. It really feels like you're golfing.

Ok I just a shot a 79 at Sawgrass on Advanced level with all greens, fairways, winds on normal. So add a few strokes with everything maxed out but then again it's my 1st nite playing. And yes I did put it into the drink on my 1st tee shot at 17th. The driving is not that bad, I've gotten it down to where I'm usually only doing a slight draw or fade on most shots so hitting the fiarways is not that difficult but I am using Tiger so his stats are maxed out probably.

The putting is great but on fast greens you might be losing a few strokes but you get the feel of it pretty quickly kinda like Links but it's really satisfying. It's quite difficult to get a consistent power percentage on drivers and irons. My shots ranged from 85% to 100% and I thought I was swinging the same every time so I guess that motion+ must be reading the clubhead speed quite well. If one swing was 98% and the next was 85% I couldn't tell the difference between the 2 swings

It's in the short game where you need a deft touch. I really felt the difficulty at the 17th at Sawgras because the flagstick distance was between clubs so you had to hit at around 80%. It's difficult to do. I found maintaining consistent power more difficult than direction. I hit maybe 80% of the fairways on Sawgrass but then again it was with 5-10MPH winds so cranking it up might make it difficult to keep it in the middle of the fairway.

I don't plan on playing on anything less than advanced but I'm sure the lower skill levels can give people enjoyment who just wanna have fun.

This game is not a pure simulation (I would never in real life hit 80% of the fairways in Sawgrass), the swing could be a little more sensitive and I can see myself shooting in the 60's with practice but that will make career mode enjoyable. I can't see anybody shooting in the 50's with all the conditions maxed out.

Yes once you press the B button and you better be ready to a swing right away once you press that button. I was hitting alot of fades and then I noticed I was subconsciously rotating my wrists slightly as I was about to shoot. Watch the icon in the corner of the screen to make sure your hands are straight when you start your swing unless of course you plan on drawing or fading.

I spoke too soon about the game not being that hard, went back to Bethpage after thinking that I got the swing down and shot 45 on the front nine. I hit like one fairway. That course is freaking hard. Oh man I gotta go to bed and get up for work but I just wanna keep playing.

As much as I'm digging the 360 version, the call of that Wii Motion Plus 1:1 swing interface is calling. Seymour's observations have convinced me that it's all it's cracked up to be. I'll have the Wii bundle version Friday, but won't have a Wii until August, more than likely. What I considered to be a roll of the dice with my advanced order for the bundle now looks like MONEY!

Smiley's initial Wii impressions:

I just finished 27 holes (front nine on Banff Springs & full 18 on Pebble Beach), and I'm definitely starting to feel it (in my muscles). I have never played a more satisfying Tiger Woods experience than this one. I know many people will still look at it for its poor graphics, but I was having too much fun to notice. I have a natural draw in my swing (according to this game), so I found a way to use the Advanced Fade to straighten everything out just fine (I'm sure I could use the Club tuner, but this seems to work great). The Precision Putting is great. I stopped using Putt Preview after the first 3 holes, because it was much more gratifying to nail a putt by just reading the green (or the grid, in my case). Chip shots are my worst shots, by far. I can never get the right strength on my swing, so that's something I need to work on.

I've been playing both the Wii & 360 versions every year, and I always turn away from the Wii version (because it just didn't feel right). Well, those days are gone. I can't imagine playing this game with analog sticks again. This game just gives me an experience that I've been missing in golf games, in general. I'm going to try switching my swing to Advanced, and see if I'm still singing the same tune.
