How not to improve your reputation as a whiner;
"People kept throwing hats," Crosby said. "And I was just asking if he could make an announcement to ask them to stop."
And Malkin grows on my most hated list, as he absolutely killed the Flyers but hasn't done much of anything against the Caps.
The league couldn't really ask for more last night though with the two superstars getting dueling hat tricks. Fun stuff.

Malkin just can't seem to get it up a notch, and it's been like that for the past 4 games that he played. It's like he starts thinking instead of reacting. Like last year, the Pens will lose the series unless their big guys other than #87 start producing more. Crosby can't do it all alone. The fact that even Steckel scored while he's assigned the job of checking Malkin says it all to me.
Speaking of stepping it up a notch, Canucks need to do a better job at controlling the Hawks' blueliners. Just as I mentioned in the preview post, it's guys like Seabrook, Keith and Campbell that's doing the damage for CHI with their accurate, crisp, long passes that's just disrupting VAN's forecheckers. Geez, if Grossman ever played like them, he would still be a starter for the Bears.
We also better protect our captain better as well, as Byfuglien seems to be camping at will. Should be another good one tonight.

Now that's how to play and beat those young Hawks. Canucks mantained their pressure high on their D-men and as a result CHI couldn't keep those sharp long passes that killed us in game two. They were a lot of breakdowns in CHI's D tonight and if it wasn't for the Bulin-Wall and the poor execution of some of VAN's forwards the game could have been out of reach by the end of the second period.
But no cancuks' game is without a stupid penalty or two and D. Sedin's trip on Campbell's icing was unnecesary to say the least and gave them a bit of life. Still without the services of S. Salo and P. Demitra this team showed that they have enough depth to move forward.

Look, in my view the officiating so far in these playoffs have been mediocre at best. This one just ends up costing DET the game. The puck was loose what the f**k was B. Watson thinking? It's human error, it's a fast game out there, I don't mind missed calls during the regular season, it happens, but when poor decisions end up costing perhaps a series at this time of the year, then that's tough to swallow.Jimmydeicide wrote:Now THAT is a missed call !!!! Lucky Anaheim.
The game got chippy at the end, Marchant is doing a good job if shadowing Datsyuk.

And I always find it interesting when people feel compelled to respond to a post, yet conspicuously choose not to agree or disagree with the point being asserted in the original post.Leebo33 wrote:I always find it interesting when people whine about other people whining.Naples39 wrote:How not to improve your reputation as a whiner;

I posted that because I thought it was pretty funny. I mean everyone complains about calls, but complaining about hats during a hat trick is one I've never heard before. Maybe this is more of the "Crosby only complains because he is so good and gets fouled more"? Perhaps there are incidents of Michael Jordan asking the referees to make an announcement to tell the fans to be quiet so he can concentrate during his free throws?
But then again, I'm a Flyers fan which indisputedly means I have an irrational hatred for Crosby, even though I have several posts on here defending Crosby in the past and saying Flyers fans generally overreact to him.
Whatever. I'll be rooting for the Pens tonight because I'd like to see a long series.
What he was taught, was to keep an eye on the action and don't blow the whistle prematurely. How could he lose sight if the fu*%#*g puck was loose all the time in the crease? Hiller never had possession of it, so Watson should skate better to be in a clearer position next time. That was a premature call, period. And if you asked me about ANA's second goal, I think Niedermayer just does a saavy veteran move by flopping backwards making contact with the keeper and that's goalie interference.Zlax45 wrote:Watson did what he was taught...lose sight of the puck...blow it dead....
And I am not even a Wing fan, but when lousy calls ends up costing you the game and perhaps a series, that pisses me off. It's playoffs time.
Im surprised the Hawks didnt show up last night. I expected some momentum to carry over from that beating they gave the Canucks the other night....
On the other hand, you have to give much of the credit to Vancouver as they took control of the game midway thru the first and never let the Hawks get going.

In regards to the whining about the hats, I think it is yet again a comment or action being blown way out of proportion because it involves Sidney Crosby. He's not going out of his way to complain to reporters that fans shouldn't throw hats on the ice. He's being asked about what he said to the officials during the delay after AO's hat trick. He's the team captain, it is his job to speak for the team to the officials. Do people really expect him to revel in the moment and celebrate with the crowd, maybe throw his helmet on the ice? He wants to get back to the game and try to come back and win, and he's just hoping to speed things up since it ended up being quite a lengthy delay. Of course it sounds stupid after the game taken out of context. But in the heat of the moment, knowing how competitive he is, is it really so outlandish for him to ask if they can get back to playing the game?
In regards to Leebo's post, I can't speak for him, but as a Penguins fan it seems like Philly fans are obsessed with every move Sid makes. I'm not singling you out, but I bet the majority of Sid complaints in this thread and in general come from Flyers fans. And here are the main complaints- Sid is a whiner, and Sid is a diver. The whiner complaints get pretty annoying since complaining about him whining over and over is whining in itself, and pretty hypocritical. As to the diver complaints, again they are blown way out of proportion because it is Crosby. If you look at game two, AO had a few pretty obvious dives, including one where Kunitz hit him in the stomach, yet AO fell down grabbing his face and motioned to the officials. Can you imagine the coverage of this if it was Sid that did that? Especially if the very next shift he made another dramatic fall looking for a call? I don't have a problem with him trying to get a power play for his team at all, and I love watching Ovechkin. But I wonder what Sid did to personally offend people to the extent that every move he makes is despicable, while anything AO does it worthy of adulation because of his love of the game.
For the record, I'm not even a big Crosby fan, other than because he is a great player and plays for my team. He's definitely very dull personality-wise, and I much prefer watching Malkin skate and create (games 1 and 2 of this series excluded). However, Crosby is still only 21 years old, never asked to be the face of the league, and busts his ass every shift and takes heaps of abuse while managing to stay positive. Maybe he needs to just turn heel and say screw it to all of the haters and embrace his role as a villain, even if it doesn't seem to be warranted.
Here's hoping that you're right. Cheers. D.Byfuglien was on Luongo's face all night long on game two chirping away at one of the best if not the best keeper in the world. You don't want to get Louie mad, because if there's one individual that can guarantee a win, this guy will.fletcher21 wrote:I'm not a fan of Vancouver, but I am thinking they are going to win it all now. What he was taught is that once he loses sight of the puck to blow the whistle to protect the goalie. I watched the replay and lost sight of the puck underneath Hiller's pads too.10spro wrote:What he was taught, was to keep an eye on the action and don't blow the whistle prematurely. My xbox live name is "The Zlax45"
Well, Grapes aka Don Cherry ripped AO for his soccer antics in a game that should have no part of that. I really think that Sydney has been assigned for too many things, too quick, at a still tender age. He was told to be the captain of the Pens when he was 18-19 becoming the youngest captain ever to carry a team on his shoulders, be the face of the NHL and a good ambassador. AO is electric on the ice, a game breaker but can you pick this guy to represent the NHL off the ice?HipE wrote:If you look at game two, AO had a few pretty obvious dives, including one where Kunitz hit him in the stomach, yet AO fell down grabbing his face and motioned to the officials. What these two dudes did in game two was amazing, here's hoping that PIT can turn the tide at home because I want to continue watching them duplicate that task. I really don't care about Crosby's personal life, this guy is a warrior and hope that Malkin and CO wake up in time to make this series a long one.
Again, he wouldn't lose sight of the puck if he was positioned properly behind the net which he wasn't, and watch the replay again, Hiller never has possession of the puck, he's just sitting on his a$$ while the puck is loose.Zlax45 wrote:What he was taught is that once he loses sight of the puck to blow the whistle to protect the goalie. Well, gotta agree with Don Cherry on this diving. This has been creeping in since the rule changes and it kinda tailed off for a bit but now its upfront and center again as the games mean more.
I was not happy When Ovechkin did it and to hear the commentators call Chelios a "cagey veteran" on his too soccer flops annoyed the hell outa me.
Wouldnt a vet frown on upon such antics?
To see the absolute in courage with Wisnewski dyeing on the ice and then to get elbowed whislt dying still trying to defend and then a cagey vet flops like Ronaldo disgusted me.
A review board should be set up and to punish all embelishments now before we see soccer on ice.
