This is going to be out of context, but I saw this on OS. Ian posted something on his Twitter about Jacobs running for 307 yards and needing to tune the run game. Someone asked how they were doing this and this is his reply.
I'm posting this because I see some interesting stuff in here. I should say for #1 the game was played at Pro Level and apparently the game speed is different on each level.

It's definitely still in progress, but I can say a few things about why the running game got much more effective as well...
1. [Minor] The game speed makes running inherently a bit easier. You have more vision to hit your holes.
2. [Minor] The changes to turn rates apply to both defense and offense, but user controlled defenders (i.e. Mike) aren't necessarily used to them so they have the tendency to overpursue plays since they're used to being able to always hold sprint and still make a play.
3. [Major] We DRASTICALLY reduced the tolerance (i.e. yards away) for a defender to tackle a ballcarrier. Last year it was upwards of 3 yards, which gives that feeling of 'suction'. This year it's closer to one yard, but it also scales based on the tackle rating of the player...meaning that it will just feel harder to get by the Urlacher's and R. Lewis's.
4. [Major] we also changed pretty much how all of our blocking works, and added all kinds of new animations and technologies (some announced, some not).
So all of these things immediately tip the scale to the offense so we have to tune accordingly.
To re-balance the first few (especially the lower tackle tolerance yardage) we really just need to keep tuning pursuit. If a player could "tackle" you from 3 yards away last year, that hides a lot of pursuit issues that come out when he can't tackle you unless he's within arm's reach. This is still ongoing, and I think you saw it in rough shape at community day. LB's would crash right into the middle and then get hung up and not be able to get back outside. Which leads to the second one...
We have to re-work how our players 'disengage'. We're working on giving them the full ability to tackle while still engaged, which helps a lot, but is also a tough balance because you have to do some pretty complex checks to see if he's "free enough" to tackle a guy, or else the suction problem comes back. The other main thing is just with animation and logic - guys need to be able to shed free of a guy in the opposite direction, and do it FAST. This will not only help outside runs but QB scrambling shenanigans.
Both are high on the list...being tuned as we speak.

Here is the trailer.
PS3/360

Not much to say on this one. Pretty much what I expected from a first trailer. Gang Tackling looked a bit off. Animations are still a bit stiff. Would rather have gameplay footage like we see when we play but that will come soon enough.
Feel free to head to OS where all hell has broken loose. No loss for words over there.

Wii version provides for humor. Sorry Wii owners but it looks like poop on a stick. I might buy a Wii for Tiger and Tennis (Mario and Zelda too) but this would never see the light of day in my console.

That trailer was an odd mix of things wasn't it? You see great OL / DL play in parts of it and then you get to later where Ben is at the goal line and it looks like s***.
The WR / DB play looked good, but I saw what looked like a lot of blown coverages. Hrad to tell from those angles.
One things is for sure you can't say any longer that 2K has the best tackling around, that is by far the best tackling I've ever seen.
I don't know some of it was good and some of it was really bad, I hope this is marketing cobbling together a video from a ton of builds otherwise i am at a loss how you can have 2 completely different OL / DL looks in the same game / trailer.

I am not going to go that far, having played APF2K8 before my 360 went kaput but it is safe to say it is much much better than previous Madden's.Danimal wrote: One things is for sure you can't say any longer that 2K has the best tackling around, that is by far the best tackling I've ever seen.
In game footage will allow us to make better judgments on these things. I have never cared for all these companies showing replay footage.

I don't know I've played a lot of APF, I mean A LOT and what I saw in that trailer is beyond anything I've ever seen in that game. I guess reserving judgment until I've actually played it is a fair point but it was about the only exciting thing in the trailer.

I stopped reading when I got to that part. Seriously last years commentary was a snooze fest which went along with the game. And in one year they turned it around?bdoughty wrote: Experience first-hand what it’s like to Fight for Every Yard in Madden NFL 10. The Pro-Tak tech hopefully won't be along the line of Tiger Woods in-flight ball control. Nothing like steering a golf ball mid air to land in the perfect spot.

All kidding aside I wish them the best on developing this game because I think that the team generally have their hearts in the right place. As a consumer I'd love to have a really good NFL game to play - one where the design philosophy is to provide a closer simulation of the real game.
Best wishes,

I can see people subbing in Pat White as Miami's running back and running the wildcat...hell I can see just about anyone with a mobile backup using Miami's playbook and running the wildcat to cheese with. As much as people bitched about the direct snap to the halfback in NCAA, now they are going to give every cheeser that plays Madden the license to exploit.dbdynsty25 wrote:At least they are trying to implement it. I doubt it will work very well in Madden though. Too gimmicky for the AI to actually react with "surprise" or whatever...it just goes against everything that is Artificial Intelligence.
Jimmy Fallon appears to know as much about Madden as he does about comedy.
Also, another screen or video of the movie "Wildcats" will be a violation of the Geneva Convention.
You can never place too much judgment, good or bad, on a trailer. However, I liked the tackling and breaking of tackles, and also the DB/WR interaction like Danimal said. The blocking also looked like blocking, not computer models running into each other.
Along the lines of what DB said, hopefully if they've added the Wildcat, they've taken steps to address the defensive AI playing against the Wildcat. I am glad to see the formation make it into the game because it is going to be a part of the offense for many teams this year.

My understanding is steps have been taken they are just not out in the public yet. How effective they are I am not sure of. Unfortunately we're probably a good month away at least before some stuff starts coming out that might really excite people.
