I didnt think they would get that much either...The speed of the deal is surprising too. Out of nowhere. The Bears? Really?HipE wrote:I'm surprised the Broncos were able to get such big return for Cutler, especially since they were in a position where they basically had to trade him. I'm curious, what other qbs in the NFL would be able to bring two 1st round picks and a 3rd rounder? There can't be more than a couple.
Maybe they had an ebay style auction and the Vikings were about to get him. Bears couldnt let that happen.
Who knows what the Skins might or might not have offered.
What goes on behind close doors?
If the Rams had done something like that I would have been happy with it.
Holt would be a good fit for them. I like getting a veteran like that to go with the younger receivers. The Pace signing makes sense, too, and he could be a mentor for Chris Williams.XXXIV wrote:Pace signs with Bears.

Nice day to be a Bear fan...
Holt is available.
Rams might be aquiring new Gatorade jugs.
My apathy about the Bears offseason did a complete 180 today.

1st it's McDaniels not McDaniel. 2nd, Broncos made out just fine in this trade. Their defense is in shambles and they just got 2 first round picks and a 3rd rounder in return. how on earth can you say "ruined for the forseeable future?"Badgun wrote:Yeah, congrats to Josh McDaniel for completely ruining the Broncos for the forseeable future.XXXIV wrote:Cutler to Bears.

Last time I checked, most defenses don't put enough points on the board to win games. Ruined for the foreseeable future? Yeah, Kyle Orton and Chris Sims, that's how.PRBoom wrote:1st it's McDaniels not McDaniel. 2nd, Broncos made out just fine in this trade. Probably because young stud, Pro Bowl QB's with rocket arms are at a premium in the NFL. That's why so many teams were interested in trading for Cutler even with Washington willing to unload Campbell for Cutler.PRBoom wrote:1st it's McDaniels not McDaniel. 2nd, Broncos made out just fine in this trade. It appears the Broncos will be searching for another top flight QB.
Actually, my son is a big Broncos fan. Just got him a Cutler jersey this past Christmas. Tonight I am weeping for him.JRod wrote:You support any non-Denver team in the AFC West? Cutler's production will drop, I'm sure, but even if he's 75% of what he was last year, it's a big improvement. They will have a very good QB and RB who are both just getting warmed up.dbdynsty25 wrote:Who the hell is he gonna throw the ball to? Devin Hester? Yikes. Brandon Marshall he is not.
Bears paid a lot but also managed to clear out the other bidders immediately. A second-round pick can still nab them a future starting WR in a very deep draft at receiver. And Jerry Angelo, for his faults, is above average at finding decent players in the middle rounds.
The trade will be judged like the Bailey/Portis trade.
Who ever is more successful will win. Here's the thing if McDaniels doesn't get to the playoffs and the Bears do. Trade bust.
Broncos will now sit in the wilderness for the next 10 years, probably. McDaniels will be gone 8 games in the 2010 season. .
That's my predication.

Bowlen's mistake was McDouchebag. Ya I guess if he's winning trophies that will change.PRBoom wrote:1st it's McDaniels not McDaniel. 2nd, Broncos made out just fine in this trade. Draft picks can be busts...no?
Here's the thing, the Pats offense was great because of Brady. It was good in the maiden season with Cassell. Denver isn't NE one. And McDaniels isn't Billicheck.
Few teams in the NFL ever win anything with a great QB, unless you have a great D and McDaniels probably won't provide that becaues he's an offensive coach.
I'm a Bronco fan for the record and think losing Cutler is a huge loss.
Defenses that give up 30+ points a game don't allow your offense to win games either. Orton and Simms aren't long term fixes. You're just being silly if you believe that to be the case.Badgun wrote:Last time I checked, most defenses don't put enough points on the board to win games. Ruined for the foreseeable future? I have a very strong suspicion that list isn't nearly as long as a lot of people make it out to be. If they had so many players in on this why'd it get done is less than 36 hours? Sure the skins were willing to give up Campbell for him, but c'mon. It's Campbell you're talking about here.Probably because young stud, Pro Bowl QB's with rocket arms are at a premium in the NFL. NOBODY had the Broncos making the playoffs next year even if Cutler and McDaniels hit it off from the start and he were still to be the QB. Hell many analysts were predicting 8-8 at best based on their schedule (NFC East, Pats, Colts, Ravens). The trade will be judged like the Bailey/Portis trade.

You can't judge this trade in one year. Hell, the Broncos don't even get all of their picks from it until next year's draft when they get the 2nd first rounder.
I say we wait and give McDaniels a chance to coach a game or two before you start trying to hang him from the tree out back.
Cutler has a lot of talent, but so did Jeff George and Ryan Leaf. I'm not saying he's in their category, but he's certainly not in the same category as Manning, Brady, etc either.
He's got a lot of growing up to do and I'm not even talking about what's been going on the last 30 days or so. His body language on the field and sideline is very telling. Don't even get me started on his lack of leadership.
My prediction is that in when the dust settles the Broncos will be just fine.
To quote John McEnroe "you cannot be serious". Two #1 picks with a #3 in 2009 and the Bears QB. I'm no GM but i'd pull the trigger on that deal.PRBoom wrote: I have a very strong suspicion that list isn't nearly as long as a lot of people make it out to be. As JRod said, the Broncos will live to regret that deal much like the Mets did when they traded Tom Seaver to the Reds.
With those golden picks they'll eventually draft an elite QB. CHI will be better in a short term but has this guy gone to the playoffs as a starter?Rodster wrote:To quote John McEnroe "you cannot be serious". Two #1 picks with a #3 in 2009 and the Bears QB. Apparently the Bucs and Redskins were also in the hunt for Cutler.

Cutler is a great 'numbers' QB, but doesn't strike me as a born winner. However, you only have to see his face and you can tell....he's what we in the frozen NorthWest of England would describe as a 'smacked arse'.
Translation - whiny, self-obsessed little moaner. Now apparently he's running backwards, shouting 'I didn't mean it, I didn't meant it - I didn't want a trade'. Is there a couple of words missing from that last statement, ie '.....to Chicago' ?
2 first rounders and a third...I'd take that - you can parlay the extra 1st rounder into a couple of extra 2nd and 3rd rounders at least, and really stock up.

Well sadly for Bronco fans, until those draft picks translate into a decent qb, then they're not going to contend at all.10spro wrote:With those golden picks they'll eventually draft an elite QB. I think the only move that I've seen a team make worse than this one was when Jerry Jones bought the Cowboys and fired Tom Landry. Cutler was no Elway, but he was well liked by the fans in Denver and was definitely on the cusp of being a top tier qb in the NFL. You just don't even begin to talk about trading a guy like that, much less go behind his back and start shopping him.
What's going to be really funny is watching the Broncos start out 1-5 and seeing the fans absolutely turn on Josh McDaniels. This guy might be the biggest d*****bag ever to coach a football team.

Well, I support neither outfit (I picked the Bengals in 1983 when I was looking for someone to follow...well done me), but I will wager you 10 of Her Majesty's Pounds that Chicago do not win more playoff games this season than Denver.
You can opt to wait until after the draft if you wish, but I'd want a 10% bonus in that event

They say that Cutler was whiney and that he needed to learn that the NFL is a business and they entertain trades all the time.
Why is it that the players can't be pissed off when trades come up. It's the players that make the business too. Elway was considered a whiney baby for not wanting to go to Indy. Eli Manning the same way...funny they don't talk about how he wanted not to be in SD after winning the Super Bowl.
The Broncos and McDaniels played their hand and not they will have to live by their decision. But McDaniels is a first year coach and Bowlen trusts him this much to lose their franchise quarterback?
All the grief on Cutler is a bunch of B.S. Why can't a player be pissed off. And why is it always the players fault for when things go bad. This on McDaniels and the Broncos management, too.
One other thing about Cutler last season...the Broncos had no running game, and no defense and he still put up those numbers. He did have great blocking, however.
Anyway like I said, what happens if McDaniels turns out to be a bust, which is likely with all rookie NFL coaches. Not only did you lose but you lost Cutler. It's a dangerous game the Broncos are playing with an unproven coach. Bowlen has more faith in McDaniels than Cutler.??? I wouldn't.
