2009 = Best year for baseball games ever???

Seems like this years MLB '09 The Show is the best ever. MLB 2K9 has taken a good step in the right direction from last years game and although I wouldn't rate it as highly as MLB '09 its still a good game. OOTP 9 is the best OOTP we've seen and OOTP 10 looks like it will continue that trend this spring. Baseball Mogul got some so-so reviews but it still hanging tough. Console gamers have also gotten their own baseball manager sim (albeit a not so good one but still its nice to have the option) with MLB Front Office Manager.

Overall a good start to the year for baseball gamers right?

It's only the best ever because The Show 09 is probably the best baseball game ever made.

2k9 irritates the hell out of me...and The Show, even in 07 was still better than it in "this generation" of games. Hell, I popped in 2k9 after playing another couple games of the show...in just the first three innings. A guy sliding home CLEARLY out was called safe...two throws RIGHT to the first baseman called safe because he took his foot off the bag...a fly ball to the AI left fielder landed on the warning track and he decided to go to the corner and run in place at the wall for about 15 seconds allowing me to round the bases.

HOLY CRAP I can't believe the buggy mess that you guys are calling a good game. Sure, it's better than last years steamer...but that's like saying you're happy it's a solid turd this year instead of a runny one. WTF game are you guys playing???? I just don't get it. The 4.5 review was accurate as far as I'm concerned (maybe a 5.5 would have been sufficient). Thankfully I have the PC version as well. Hopefully the mod community can actually do something with it. The 360 version is hitting ebay this week. I actually really feel sorry for the guys who can't play the Show...it's a damn shame the 360 can't get a decent game. MS really needs to use that High Heat code they bought.

For me it was 2007 because MLB 2K7 was much better than 2K6 and is still graphically better and less buggy than 2K9. MLB The Show made it's appearance on the PS3 and I got to experience a fantastic and still one of my favorite baseball games called MLB Power Pros.

It's a Card & Dice conversion to the PC, being done by Richard Hanna, the same guy who converted the First and Ten Football Card & Dice game to the PC as "Second & Ten Football".

If you like replay (i.e. non-career ala APBA, Strat, etc.) style baseball games, then keep your eye on this one. Richard sent us testers the latest build last night and the game is looking really, really great. I'll have a complete suite of graphic mods (photo packs, ballparks, logos, etc) ready on my mod website for the eventual release.

Between Replay and my RTTS Career in MLB09, I'm in baseball heaven this year.

Replay Baseball is a great game and has a great community. I have several sets and have played in some of the co-ops and leagues over there.

I know it is getting torched by many....but I have not had as much addicted fun with a baseball game with 2K9 since maybe the high heat 98-99-2000 days.

It is a blast.

The zone hitting has a huge challenge/reward and the pitching/defense is mass fun....I actually don't mind doing the picthing/defense as it is not tedious.

I stayed up way to late last night...geting just one more game in.

This year's is a buggy, rediculous mess and The Show hasn't changed it's core gameplay in over 5 years. Sure it depicts baseball accurately, but to me it's a snooze-fest. 2K9 is somewhat fun, if you can handle all the weirdness. The pitching and hitting is great. It's everything else that needs work.

2K9 is a blast to play pick up games. The games are always interesting and fun, even though the bugs can be a pain.

And I actually had an inside the park homerun in The Show last night. I was playing a pickup game at Fenway, and one of the Tigers hit a ball that rolled to the Green Monster. My outfielder just hit the wall and kept running, and as I was using auto-fielding all I could do was watch as the runner touched 'em all. Both games are fun, and both have their share of bugs. I think the main problem is that 2K seems to introduce different ones each year.

Still, I'll still grab 2k9 for a console again when I can get a good price for it.

I'd disagree. I played the CRAP out of 2K4 and thought it was awesome in both the gameplay and presentation departments. 2K5 and 2K6 were terrible on all systems. 2K7 was pretty good on the 360. 2K8 took a step backwards. 2K9 is where I thought 2K8 should have been last year.

I definitely agree about MLB 09 being too samey from year to year although it is a great game.

The one mode that keeps evolving for the better is RTTS and it's really the only mode I play. But your right 2K9 is what 2K8 should have been. I think T2 needs to stick with VC and allow them to stabilize the MLB game. 2k10 would be great with basically the same gameplay in 2K9 minus the bugs and glitches.

I loved 2K4 and really liked 2K7.

I guess The Show is boring if you're really into finger gymnastics.

I wouldn't mind borrowing the throwing meter from 2K9 however.

From the little bit I played of 2K9, it just doesn't feel like baseball to me... something floaty and off about the pitch velocity and really the whole pitcher/batter confrontation.

To be fair I felt the same way about Home Run King initially, and I grew to love that game.

Like Slumber said, I can see why someone who is into finger gymnastics is bored with the Show, but I love it. Especially the "depicts baseball accurately" part. This is the first game that I have ever played, including previous editions of the Show and my beloved High Heat, that *truly* depicts the game. It's the first game that has totally nailed the size and variability of the strike zone, walks on both sides, ball physics, and the movement of different pitches. Plus, it looks and sounds fantastic.

If you are bored with this game, then I can't imagine a baseball game ever pleasing you. Although, you actually need to play it to know whether or not it is boring.

The RTTS mode in MLB 09 is awesome but they really need to and in some OTP. Sure it'd be boring to play catcher or LF for half the game but at least give us the chance to be bored! I think 2K will probably do this seen as they have more experience with it (NBA 2K9) and it would probably get more people to look their way over The Show.

Imagine if you were a reliever that never got called into the game! Man that would be laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaame. I call SP!

I dont think catcher would be that boring as you would get to get waved off by the pitcher.

I probably wouldnt get bored in the OF either. I can see having a few beers, making fun of the hitters and just hanging out without having to worry about taking a penalty or running into any pit walls.

I dont think we could get that many other people to play though.
