The IPhone is totally awesome oh my gawd thread

Given the fact that Eddie D. seems so "into" bringing the complete game over to the iPhone, I bought it as well. Have only spent a little while with the game, and while there are some polish issues, it seems like the core gameplay is there. I wonder if it's too much to wish for multiplayer draft leagues someday...Diablo25 wrote:I am gonna give it a try...what the hell. I have spent $8 on far worse.

Hey guys,
I finally caved and bought an iPhone this weekend. Wow, by far the coolest gadget i've bought.
Anyway - here is my question. The only way I can receive email is when I open the email app. It then checks for mail and delivers it to my inbox. I must be missing something as that is pretty useless. I'm a Comcast customer and I called them and they knew nothing. My iPhone is set to Push mode "on" and I just changed fetch from "manually" to "15 minutes."
Ideally, I want my device to notify me when the email hits my comcast account, not 15 minutes later or whenever I manually have it go check for new mail..
Please tell me i'm missing something somewhere.
Thanks.

Congrats! Yeah, that's more an issue with Comcast & their email servers than the iPhone. I'm a TW (former adelphia) and it's the same way. Yet something like gmail appears instantly. The way you have it setup now (15min) is probably the best u can do for now.FifaInspected wrote:Hey guys,

I also set up a gmail account and those are not hitting either. I need to open the mail app and then it goes out looking and finds them.greggsand wrote:Congrats! The only way to get truely PUSH email on the iPhone is with Yahoo email. They are the only company right now who does instant push email. However, you can always get a Mobile Me subscription which I find is FANTASTIC. It wirelessly syncs your email, your contacts, your calendar...all over the internet. The cost is rather expensive @ $99 a year, but for me, it works perfectly with a MacBook and a PC to sync over the network...so all of my PCs and my MacBook all have the same contact information updated in real time.
Then it doesn't matter what email account you use...it will always be pushed to your device as soon as you get it. Otherwise you have to setup the phone to poll at certain intervals (15 min. being the shortest).

My work Outlook account pushes instantly - which I thought would be nifty, but I turned the 'notification alerts' off in about 5 minutes. That 'ding' every time an email pooped up made mental.FifaInspected wrote:

That's because they are using an Exchange Server.greggsand wrote:My work Outlook account pushes instantly - which I thought would be nifty, but I turned the 'notification alerts' off in about 5 minutes. That 'ding' every time an email pooped up made mental.FifaInspected wrote:

The people at Sling Box have submitted their iPhone Sling Media Player to the App Store for approval. I have been waiting for this one...hope it is approved soon.

I'm familiar with mobile me as I've had it (and loved it) before. I really don't want to have to use a new email address so my question is this. Do you know if I forward my current Comcast mail to my me.com account, can I respond to the original sender or would I be responding to my own Comcast account?

Yup, that's how you have to do it. I have my gmail forwarded to my "me" account and it looks like I just got a new email on the Me account even though it's from my Gmail account. Then in the outgoing server I use my Gmail information and server...so whenever I respond it comes from Gmail and not the Me account. It's very easy to do.FifaInspected wrote:I'm familiar with mobile me as I've had it (and loved it) before. I really don't want to have to use a new email address so my question is this. MLB At Bat 09 App is out. It is $9.99 this year. A bit steep price wise but game day audio from either the home or away team is streamed this year...very cool. When this is considered I think $9.99 is a pretty good value.

Gameday Audio is $15 if you use it on a computer, this is a hell of a deal. Too bad MLB already charged me for this year. I'll stick with the free Lite version, which looks to be analogous to last year's $5 At-Bat app.Diablo25 wrote:MLB At Bat 09 App is out. It is $9.99 this year. The inclusion of Game Day Audio is a slam dunk. Although, once the Slingbox app is out, the SB App + Extra Innings Package at the house will probably take over. But what's $10, 2 hands of blackjack?Diablo25 wrote:MLB At Bat 09 App is out. It is $9.99 this year. Again, if u have an iPod jack in your car (or FM transmitter I suppose), you can have your choice of baseball games in your car for $10. Beats a $16+ per month subscription for XM... love it.
I am thinking about picking up an ITouch but I have a few questions.
Would you reccomend8 GB or 16 GB?
Can I surf the internet on free wifi for free? Or do I need to pay a monthly fee?
Can all my non-Itunes songs on my PC be transferred to used on the ITouch?
Any cool, free or inexpensive games?
Thanks!

8 or 16
Really your choice. I think there's a 32GB version too for the touch. How much stuff do you want on it.
Wi-fi
Free as long as the wi-fi is free. You know like your not surfing at barnes and noble or something and they use their system.
iTune song
As long as it can go into iTunes it will go into your touch.
Games
There's a few good cheap games. Hell most are around the 99-2.99. I don't play many games but like scrabble is like 4.99. No demos to test however.
