I'm hoping that Setanta gets to keep some of the rights here in the US

Often the media screws around with quotes when coming up with headlines but this one is straight from the horse's mouth;

"I'm not injury prone," declares Owen

Haha...my reaction too!!!

Ah Owen, how we like your pluck. You might not be injury prone but you might be taking your "not injury prone ass" to the Championship next year.

The MLS season begins ~4 hours on ESPN2.

Please consider Jared's bandwidth before you deluge the board with posts about it.

LOL is right. Seems like Mikey is sharing the same delusion as Magpies' supporters, who still insist they follow "a massive club."

I'm a Newcastle supporter, and I follow "a massively sh*t club."

Take care,

Nicky Butt, a fella who seems to know which way is up, said last week that, "We need to put this season to bed and kick on next season. You seem to say that a lot at Newcastle."

Dave and I have waxed about Newcastle's fans in the past so I'll not bore you with it again, but I'll not shed too many tears if either they or the 19th-placed Smoggies (or, please Santa I've been ever such a good boy this year, both of them) start next season a tier lower than they're used to.

Chumps League draw

Man U v Porto

Villareal v Arsenal

Chelsea v Liverpool

Barcelona v Bayern

Winner of tie 1 to play winner of tie 2 in semis, etc.

Didn't MU and Arsenal get lucky then.

Yup, MU ended up in the half of the draw with the 3 weakest teams, spawny bastards.

In other news, City got drawn at Hamburg in the UEFA quarters, with a trip to Werder Bremen likely in the semis...Christ, our draw is tougher than theirs

I may be the only person who watched the MLS opener...but that Seattle crowd was nice. And Fredy Montero is the real deal.

On paper I think Bayern will be ok but I don't think they have enough to see them through. But Barca might we thinking they escaped from facing Man U, Liverpool etc. I think they will help Bayern.

Klose is out and the defense has been poor in the Bundesliga. Uphill climb. Of course, they will be playing on the same days as Chelsea-L'Pool, so I'll get it on Setanta which included pregame, halftime, and postgame. That is a plus.

I watched it because the Hoops Tourney was so bad. Great crowd (I'm really happy for Seattle after the Sonics debacle), but not really good soccer. I'm hoping it is just first game rust and all, but outside of Montero both sides looked pretty sloppy and tentative, with the worst aerial work I've seen in ages. Guys looked happy just to get a head on it and then look around to see where it went.

ESPN wasn't showing these games in HD anyways.

But that means lower ratings, because Fox Sports seems to be on higher tiers on most systems.

I saw the first 25 and the last 15 minutes of the match. Montero was fantastic and is an ideal MLS forward; fast, capable of creating his own chances, and looks to be one of the best finishers the league. Montero and Ljungberg could absolutely terrorize the Western conference this season.

The crowd exceeded my expectations, even accounting for the fact that it was the team's inaugural game.

BTW, any word on what the players thought of the artificial surface that is supposedly much better than Giants Stadium and Toronto's fields?

I'm sure Zeppo saw the game as well. He might be too depressed to post about it though. I had been looking forward to seeing Celades make his debut for RBNY last night, but I guess we'll have to wait for another day.

Nope...I watched every minute and thought it was great even if it was a one sided affair. Atmosphere was top notchs and I can only imagine what Seattle will be like once Ljungberg gets back into the lineup and Zakuani is starting every game. Zakuani and Nyassi should present some matchup problems for oppenents with their speed. Believe it or not, i'm gonna spend the $79 on the Direct Kick package just so I can watch the Sounders all season long.

Not quite - Chelsea blew their chance to gain more ground due to their loss at Shite Hart Lane, to Harry 'the Crook' Redknapp's outfit. He must have been gutted at the Modric and other transfers going through while he wasn't in charge...just thinking of all the bungs he could have been collecting, the fat bag of s***.

Indeed, Rob, great day of football, all means naught unless we can capitalize tomorrow against O'Neill's hoof merchants. C'mon you Redmen!!!

Is there a manager worthy of respect?

Or one not deserving of scorn?
