No...it's pretty much equal to or below the DS. I mean there are some decent looking games, but they are few and far between.

The Monkeyball developers compared it to a Gamecube in performance.

The iPod Touch 2G is suppose to be clocked at a higher speed so some games and apps. run more smoothly.

The roadmap for the CPUs and GPUs on smartphones is ambitious. Some really interesting capabilities due in 2010 and 2011.

But I think the interesting thing about gaming on the iPhone isn't to push the best graphics but to offer a low-barrier to entry for developers of all levels, particularly one-man shops. The games they develop won't have the polish or length of games from the major publishers but they may offer enough gameplay to sell well enough to draw more development.

So far, there are enough success stories, like the guy who made iShoot, that a lot of other developers are working on games. Most of it probably won't be that good but there will probably be some gems given the sheer volume.

I'd love to be able to carry around one portable device for phone and gaming, but 1.) I'm not willing to give up Verizon at this point and 2.) the gaming on iPhone doesn't seem to be 'all that' just yet.

Copy and paste?

The ESPN app. that they demo'd could be cool. Streamed video highlights from notifications of games.

Now if it let you view espn360 videos on demand, that would be really cool.

I'm leaning on picking up the LG Dare tomorrow since there's no legal way of making an Iphone work on the Verizon network.

Copy/Cut/Paste, MMS, Landscape Keyboard in Mail/Messaging and Push Notifications (this is what I have been waiting for)...it's about time they got around to these "features" that have been in every other phone for the past 5 years.

It's embedded in the messaging...so it's native. You don't need an App for it.

Thanks. Assuming this is for the iPhone, how do you get landscape on text messages? I get it on Safari, but not Texting.

All this stuff we're talking about is from the 3.0 software that hasn't be released yet (the enhancements were just announced today). Once it's released, when you update your phone, you'll get it all. From all the things I've read, I have yet to see a release date. Maybe I just missed it.

They said June.

I think they did that last year, announce 2.0 features in March, release the software in June as well as the 3G hardware.

You would expect new phones at some point this year and a lot of people who bought the original iPhones in June 2007 will be coming out of contract.

Well, that's when summer officially starts but with Apple who knows. I would love to see support for Adobe flash and some dock connection for a wireless keyboard. Typing on this thing is crammy.

From what I hear, they are just gonna release the 32gb version...I doubt there will be much of a redesign like there was from 1.0 to the 3G version. Now, next summer when LTE will start hitting the states, then maybe you'll see a redesign. Who knows.

I guess if they give developers enough access to the Bluetooth stack, someone could write drivers to support Bluetooth keyboards.

Or just support the Apple BT keyboard.

One intriguing idea might be a controller for the PS3. Maybe not game control, although imagine if some games sent out data over BT to display something on the iPhone screen depending on what was happening in a game.

Obvious example would be having the plays in a football game displayed on the iPhone.

But the other thing is, make a real good remote control app. for the Blu-Ray playback features and maybe some parts of the XMB controllable by the iPhone touchscreen.

With MMS native I just wonder how long it is til we get an iPhone with video support. Capture video, import to iMovie and there ya go.

It sucks that MMS is only coming to the 3G. This is the first software-related differentiation between the two versions, from what I can recall.

Probably needs more horsepower than the current models have.

But there's a lot of development activity going on for high-performance chipsets which will record and play back 1080p video for instance, improved 3D graphics, etc.

No guarantees that Apple will move to these chips this year. But long-term, they've bought an embedded processor company and have deals with companies which are working on these chips.

Especially when there is no need for MMS to only be on 3G. Just an excuse for them to get rid of 1st gen phones. That's the apple company statement, every 6 months we out date our products.

There's no GPS chip in the original iPhone either.

You can use Google Maps and other location-aware apps. but they won't be as accurate.

That's another thing, they said there will be an API to support turn-by-turn directions, which opens the way for a company like TomTom to sell an app. bundled with maps to provide some of the features of a GPS device.

Presumably, such apps. wouldn't really be for the original iPhone.

As for new models every year, just about every player in the industry does that, especially of high-end models. Some release models more than once a year.

I understand GPS-reliant apps won't work on the original iPhone, the GPS is a hardware difference.

Apple is saying the MMS issue is caused by a radio difference between the two models, but there are some jailbreak apps that have used MMS on the first iPhone for a while.

Not a huge deal, just annoying. I'll just keep using the current crappy system the few times a year someone sends me an MMS.
