RallyMonkey wrote:Stupid question but i can't remember the answer. If i begin my franchise now, will the roster update that comes out next month (opening day rosters) force me to restart the franchise or will it just overhaul the current one and let me continue?

I really would love to start my Sox franchise but don't want to get 30 games in and restart if i don't have to. Thanks.
I can't remember a game that actually LET you update your rosters mid-season. It ain't gonna happen.

A few nitpicks:

- Am I the only one that thinks the ball is harder to see this year? Not so much when pitching or hitting, but when fielding, especially when it's on the dirt infield. On a double play last night I couldn't see the ball go from second base to first. Maybe I'm just getting old, or I should get an HDTV and quit whining. :D

- On fastplay, I don't like how there's no break between innings, the other team just comes up right away. Last year they at least showed the linescore and who's due up on the screen between innings.

- I'm not seeing that controlling location when you're pitching is any tougher this year. I used classic pitching last night, I wonder if that's just a meter pitching thing?

Otherwise, GREAT GAME!!!

One more thing, what is with Texas' batting helmets?!?! Yikes, they're ugly! At first I thought that was a glitch in the game, then I remembered somebody posted their new unis here a while back. Ha!

Cub fans are flipping out over at OS for good reason because the only day games on the Cubs schedule for home games are on Sundays.

Yikes!

If you don't have an HDTV, then obviously that's the issue, so yes, it's you. Sack it up.

LOL. Well, I'm also hearing there is a problem with the lineups not being correct. The CPU shuffles the lineups as they see fit.

Don't shoot the messenger!

I'm cool with playing exhibition games until they get this worked out.

LOL!

One other super-minor nitpick, I was playing the Tribe at Texas last night, there was a homer to center, where that grassy hill is (or do they call it a grassy knoll in Dallas?), and for all the talk about the new dynamic crowd reactions, I was kinda hoping some kids would hop the rails and chase after the ball like in R/L. Instead the ball just laid there. This game sucks, I'm taking it back, Ha!!!

No, I'm afraid not. Then again, my impressions are based off of playing offline. I don't think I've attempted to play a baseball game online in probably three years. I like to control the pace of the game, as baseball games tend to take longer than any other sports video game. I don't think I'd have the patience to play online anyways.

Online has it's issues, but it's world's ahead of last year.......although that's not saying much. I've attempted, and completed, two games with Sport in the last two nights. Slight lag at some points but most certainly playable. The voice still needs to be improved as we went in and out all night and there was some static, but in terms of play, again, no issues getting through a game where last year that rarely happened....if ever.

If anyone here wants to add me (if they don't have me already) my PSN name is SlapShot17. Be happy to get some games in.

If we can get a few guys, play a 5-6 inning tournament among dsp'ers, it could be a lot of fun.

I played a game online last night and it was 50 x better than last years horrible mess. Very little lag although a couple times the ball skipped a bit on its way to the plate basically giving the pitcher a free strike. Compared to MLB2K9 it looks like MLB '09 has the upper hand in the online department this year.

If anyone wants to get some games going or even a little mini-tourney I'd be down. I'm going to look into some of the online options a bit to see what we can do.

So you only control one player in RTTS?

Can you play multiplayer RTTS? Or online? Say you control a pitcher and you play online against someone who's controlling a first baseman?

What if you can play an OTP game with people using their RTTS players?

Or even just regular OTP. But first they had to make online usable and it sounds like they may have this year.

Picked up the PC version of 2k9...this should be interesting. I can't imagine it can even hold a candle to the Show. It's RIDICULOUSLY good.

MLB 2K9 for the PC looks incredible. My PC has no problems running the game maxed out graphics wise. IMO MLB 2K9 on the PC beats both games because you can eliminate jaggies and have higher resolution and it offers some serious eye candy as well.

I played about 5 innings...had to turn it off. Need to go back downstairs to play The Show. I mean, hell, it's better than last year, but no way in hell anyone who enjoys baseball games would say that 2k9 is better. Even at high res on the PC, the Show still looks better. 2k looks like a cartoon.

I never said it played better. I did say it looks fantastic graphics wise.

And I said even on a high res computer, it doesn't even come close to equaling or surpassing the Show.

Started a Manage Only season with the Brewers (Randomly chosen team).

Here's a vid of Tim Lincecum locking up JJ Hardy on opening day.

last night playing a close one in Minnesota. They bring on their closer for the 9th with a 1 run lead who and Barajas singles to open the inning. The next two batters are pretty easy outs and then Vernon Wells steps up and hits a 2 run homer for the go ahead runs and the Twins are shut out in the bottom of the ninth for the win.

Just started a RTTS campaign. I have to say that I really have no doubt - despite not being the biggest fan of pro baseball this is the best video sports game bar none.

Best wishes,

Doug

I need to retract my nitpicks I posted yesterday after playing the second game of my Tribe season at Texas last night:

- The ball was alot easier to see in the night game last night, the first game was a day game, where it was a little tougher to see, hopefully this won't be a big deal.

- I walked six batters last night!!! I can't remember ever doing that in a video game before. I guess I didn't walk anyone in the first game because I had last year's Cy Young award winner Cliff Lee pitching, DUH!!! Last night Fausto Carmona was throwing the ball all over the place, just like in R/L unfortunately.

- As far as no breaks between innings in the Fast Play mode, I think turning off Fast Play is the way to go, at least for now anyways. The game took about an hour, but seeing the extra stuff was well worth it.

The game is incredible!!!!!!!!! Can't wait to play game three tonight. :D

I picked up the PSP version (because I don't own a PS3).

I had the PSP version a couple of years ago, but found the hitting was too easy, as I would get at least 15 hits per game. Not so this year. They added a new difficulty level, Legend. Ive only played two games, but I only had 6 hits and then 5 hits.

The initial load time to start the game is a little on the long side, but after that, there are no issues.

It's really amazing what they can put on the little handheld.
